He also played piano, guitar, and harmonica, starting out in Irish show bands as a teenager eventually coming to prominence in a rock band, Them, with such songs as "Gloria", "Here Comes the Night", "Mystic Eyes", and a great version of an old blues tune, "Baby Please Don't Go" which I would rank with Animals' version of "House of the Rising Sun"...
Yes, I wrote the same comment, that this was his biggest hit 🔥🎵 It really is a magnificent song. Love these 2 guys. They tap into every lyric, every instrument.
One of the best sounds from a song you can hear. Van is so diverse and an incredible vocalist. Wild Night, Domino, Wavelength or Blue Money all great songs. Give a listen ✌️🎼🎶🎸🎵
Well Put ❗ As I was listening just now , I realized AGAIN his lyrics in this song are magnificent. And all the Instrumentation 🎵🎵🎵 A classic by him. Aren't you glad we grew up on great talent like this❓ I am.I'm loving watching these young REACTORS appreciate these oldies but goodies. These 2 guys have become my new favorite. Spot on reactions. They must be musicians or Producers.
I highly recommend another song from Van Morrison. And It Stoned Me. When you check this out, do the studio version and be sure to have the lyrics on hand.
This and Brown Eyed Girl are his biggest radio tunes... but his rabbit lives very, very deep down in the hole! Van is kinda like Steely Dan... both in how he mixes genres so well to create his own, unmistakable sound... and that he just finds great musicians (and they want to work on his stuff, and has a rep for being a taskmaster at times) for both his recordings and his touring bands.
Van wrote this song, so he is not covering somebody else's composition. Van used to hang out in Mill Valley in Marin County just North of the Golden Gate Bridge coming into San Francisco. Van was working on this song for a long time, drinking at the Silver Dollar bar at night, good Irishman, hanging with the locals trying to get away from the world of expectations and enjoying life. He wrote this song about that time.
Have you seen the full moon lately? My husband and I danced to this in our backyard last night! Together 40 years and this song still makes one feel romantic! 😽💋🎶💕
Van writes 99% of his songs, writes and arranges his music, writes his own horn charts. He ptoduces, plays saxophone, harmonica, guitar, keys. He is the band leader. When he makes an album he delivers it complete, ready to press a disc and distribute. He’s made more than 50 studio and live recordings and released at least 80 singles.
Thanks for this reaction. Another must listen is 'Into The Mystic' , truly amazing. Going back 60 years Van was in the Irish band, Them. Their 'Baby, Please Don't Go' was their debut single. Also worth a listen. Cheers ✌
Great reaction, as usual. Van is so unique and more diverse than he gets credit for. Always soulful, sometimes bluesy, sometimes drawing on Irish/Celtic/mystical themes -- and here, he really swings. If you're interested in exploring Van's influence on other rock artists, try "Kitty's Back" by Bruce Springsteen.
Van's voice is exceptional. A excellent reaction by an excellent performer to an excellent song. Had the pleasure of seeing him on my 21st birthday at the Masonic Temple in Detroit. A small venue that was excellent. Appreciate you la and Che. Thanks fellas 👌 ❤
Airplay Beats Big Soul Review is bringing the truth with Van The Man. Thanks for playing all the Van Morrison songs. Your commentary and views on the music and vocals are always on point. SOMEONE LIKE YOU, HAVE I TOLD YOU LATELY I LOVE YOU, WAVELENGTH, IN THE GARDEN, QUEEN OF THE SLIPSTREAM, FULL FOR GALE, LISTEN TO THE LION, GET YOU HAND OUT OF MY POCKET, T.B. SHEETS - You should give his Album 'IT's TOO LATE TOO STOP NOW' a song-by-song listen. It's one of the great Live Albums that capture Van at his best. Thank you for all the diverse music and hard work you put into bringing us so much joy.
This whole album is fire. And it Stoned Me is my suggestion for your next Van Morrison reaction. But, all of his music is great stuff. Enjoy. I'd really like to see you react to some Steve Miller Band, a lot of great music waiting for you from them. The Joker and Fly Like an Eagle would be nice.
@AirplayBeats I slept on this reaction. But, I reiterate that Steve Miller Band has a lot of music awaiting your perusal. Jet Airliner, Jungle Love, The Stake, Take the Money and Run, Swingtown and others are worthy endeavors. Stay safe and well. TTYL.
Yes Harriet ❗ It's a magnificent song and I love seeing young REACTORS like these 2 enjoying all these oldies but goodies 🔥🎵 It's nice to re live memories of when this great music was on the airwaves all the time. What an ERA of music😊
Great song. There's one song by Van that I'm sure you've heard, 'Brown Eyed Girl'. It's a classic that routinely gets played at weddings. Enjoy your channel guys...
Agreed Bill....these 2 REACTORS are my new favorites. They are always spot on. I wonder if they are Musicians or Producers. They hear everything. What A DELIGHT to tune into them every day.
All of the accolades in the comments about Van is absolute truth. Personally saw him live in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. That’s only three of the 7 decades he’s been making music. Each time I saw him, his play sets never repeated, and each show was masterful. He did start out as a saxophone player. A great tune by him which is autobiographical, but not mainstream is Cleaning Windows. It’s basically a story of his job, at the time when he was learning the music business, learning to write, his influences. He was born and brought up in Belfast N Ireland, which in the 50s, and being a major seaport town, he was able to get all the music coming out of America, especially the Delta blues artists that would be brought in by sailors, and merchant marines. Check out a lyrics video if you so desire of that song, and you will understand Van the Man.
What radio station ❓Do you live in a city like me with a great COMMUNITY RADIO STATION ❓( actually Tampa Bay area has 2 outstanding community radio stations...Thank God). It's the only way to hear great music 🎵 on the RADIO these days.
There's one song in particular that has the flute in the forefront of an early 70's rock song, you subscribers out there know which one I'm talking about. That's going to be a fun reaction.
I highly recommend checking out the studio version of "Satisfied" by Van. Great vocals, and the trumpet/saxophone Call and Response solo will blow you away!
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!! I love people who truly appreciate GREAT music. It does not matter what the genre, great music translates to those who LOVE music. Great is Great…… period!!!!
Like I said, this is a beautifully recorded track with impeccable separation on all the instruments. Van has soul. I've seen him twice and both are among my top live shows.
My wife and I love Van Morrison! Before she passed away we danced a lot to to his music over the years! I have many fond memories from this music ! Thank you very much !!!! This is his music !
It was played in American Werewolf in London. Movie from 1983. May you heard it before from that. Van Morrison is another icon you gotta go down the rabbit hole with him.
Van Morrison wrote/performed it. A lot of famous artists have covered him so it's possible you've heard this before. Speaking of that, if you haven't heard Wild Night you should. That was covered by John Cougar Melencamp and kind of helped Van get back into the limelight for a bit.
If you don't break into it, the Eurythmics videos sometimes get blocked (but you can change the opacity and apparently it works). I think you might have heard some of the really big hits already? But they have one called "This is the House" that has fun production to listen to on headphones.
You guys keep bringing out the best of the best ❗ This was probably his biggest hit. Beautiful lyrics and composition 🎵🎵🎵 This is HIS song. Glad you loved it too.
Every Van Morrison album I have, Van wrote every song, music and lyrics. I don't think I ever heard a Van cover, but I have heard many people cover Van. As Robby Robertson called him at the Last Waltz, Van the Man. I definitely recommend you doing the video of Van Morrison and the Band doing his song Caravan at the Last Waltz - Van is awesome!
van the man, - his live performance with the band on, the last waltz movie with a track called caravan is well worth a watch all my best to you and yours from Liverpool
I always loved this song. Another one that is sort of in the same vein is Dancing In The Moonlight by King Harvest. Both are just really cool, classic rock staples.
Yeah not bad for a Northern Irishman. True jazz, blues, genius. He has many great songs. I love to listen to his song TB Sheets because of the story to the song.
