Tupelo Honey and Into The Mystic are probably my favorite Van Morrison songs. He's done them so many different ways over the years and they are all special. Both songs have also been covered by a LOT of different artists. Bob Dylan once said that if you want to hear God smile just get Van to perform Tupelo Honey. Hard to find a better recommendation than that.
Thus is for my wife and I, as are several other Van tunes such as Have I Told You Lately and Into the Mystic and Brown Eyed Girl. Don't you just wanna hug your baby!
To the individual ear.... good music is good music. Born in 1959, I grew up with a hunger for the Beatles, Led Zep, Allman bros, Deep Purple, Elton John, and Billy Joel. But, artists like Van are seamless artists who people from any genre can love.
Tupelo Honey and Into The Mystic are masterpieces; And it Stoned Me!! As you mentioned that bands like Zeppelin, Floyd and Yes were huge in the 70’s but we also had Van Morrison, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt and Carly Simon so we had both worlds
Can Morrison has been a favorite and a keystone of my music listening life for 55 years. There are so many albums and rarely listened to songs down this rabbit hole, and everyone hears maybe 10. There is no better place to be lost musically than digging out Van Morrison jewels.
Van, The Man! Can''t go wrong ~ ~ ~ I 100% agree with you about closing your eyes when listening to music ~ nice to be relaxed and Really Listening. Today I guess people would call it, being present.
Great seeing you grooving to Van's singing and the music. Ever since I first heard it, back when it was released, it still is one of my all-time favorite songs. His voice is amazing, and I've always said it’s like another musical instrument it is so expressive and emotive. This song ranks up there with the best love songs ever and the instrumentation is perfect.
Sometimes I feel that Van Morrison is a Poet and a Musician. His song soothes your soul. The words and music sweep over you and make you think what he is singing/saying deep in your soul. Please listen to the "It's Too Late To Stop Now" live album. 'Listen to the Lion,'' 'Cypress Avenue,' 'Take Your Hand Out Of My Pocket,' 'I've Been Working,' 'I Believe To My Soul, 'Warm Love.' Van's catalog of songs and styles i.e. "Jackie Wilson Said, "'Wavelength", "T.B. Sheets" and "Someone Like You," are all unique and amazing. This is a Rabbit Hole you can jump into , It just doesn't stop. Thanks,s for the great music.
the song wasnt about a girl , its about how sweet the united states is ... the tea party , take all the tea in china and dump it in the deep blue sea ... the constitution , men with insight ... mount rushmore , men in granite ... tupelo honey from the USA
For me, this track is typical of Van Morrison's golden period from the late 60s to the late 70s. While the track was playing I looked up his discography. Forty five studio albums, 7 live albums and 9 compilation albums. Yet, he has only had 13 top ten albums in the U.K. and, amazingly, only two in the U.S. top ten. That isn't to say that the rest of his albums flop but they tend to be around the lower reaches of the charts. This is really incomprehensible why Van Morrison isn't more widely known and appreciated. There's just no accounting for taste I guess.
Crazy Love is similar, but not the same. Let's just say they're cousins. You're right, it's hard to rank Van songs, maybe you're right, it could be the last one you've heard. Suggest Jackie Wilson Said (I'm In Heaven When You Smile) for R&B, Cleaning Windows for his funkiest song, and St. Dominic's Preview for his storytelling. There's just so many to recommend!
I believe Van Morrison recorded the song that every beginner guitar learns first. G-L-O-R-I-A. There are two songs during the period that changed the music world. “I Want To Hold Your Hand” by the Beatles changed everything in the USA. And “You Really Got Me” by the Kinks started the hard rock or head banger era. Please listen to the Kinks song so you understand where that sound came from.
I'm full of requests for you. I didn't see that you reacted to these, "Fool in the Rain" Led Zeppelin and "30 Years in the Hole" Humble Pie. Also I was wondering if you were going to do a special Christmas songs reaction in December. If you are I have a few suggestions for your list; Jim Brickman - Sending You A Little Christmas ft. Kristy Starling ,and Bing Crosby, David Bowie - Peace On Earth / Little Drummer Boy. I enjoy watching you react to the music I grew up with. Glad you like it too.
