Thank you thank you thank you I've been looking for this song in the back of my mind for 10 years I couldn't believe when it started to play it was actually the song you have no idea it was like having an itch that I couldn't scratch for 10 years you are a hero disguised as a man!
My son was shot 3 times in the chest ,was told he probably wouldn't live.he did. 7 weeks in hospital, 4 weeks in a coma.when we left the hospital we just sat in the car and looked at each other and I asked what would you like to do first and he said I'd like for you to play van Morrison. I knew at that moment that he gets life.
"jackie wilson said," "have i told you lately," "reminds me of you," "crazy love," "sweet thing," "bright side of the road," "steal my heart away," "wild night," "domino," "blue money," "warm love," "caravan," "queen of the slipstream," "days like this," "i'll be your lover, too," "these are the days" -- there are SO. MANY. good van morrison songs.
You have no idea the pure joy and hope I feel watching Van Morrison embed himself into the next generation's soul. He won't live forever, and has deserved so much more recognition than he has gotten during his fantastically brilliant career. Enjoy him, Forever.
My hometown! Of course, every town in the FL Panhandle- particularly the Apalachicola River area claims to be the home of tupelo honey. I lived in Wewahitchka for a few months in the late 70's and they had "Home of Tupelo Honey" signs all over the place.
For me, it's about my Dad and his feelings for me. As an adult, I realise the song is about America and how "Sweet " Freedom is. Tupelo Honey is only found in America. The beginning of America's history began with a dumping of tea. "You can't stop us on the road to freedom" The men in granite, Mt Rushmore. Van is an Irishman, there is a lot of history and there was unrest in Ireland. This song is a romantic one to America, from afar.
@@girl_overthinx ❤ first, I love that your Dad treasures his baby girl. So sweet, as it should be. I have a Daddys girl, I told hubby she had to be since I never was. He is her go to for driving lessons and life lessons. Your take on the lyrics makes so much sense, 🇺🇸 the flag still stands for freedom.
Van Morrison: Ireland's gift to the world. He's probably the greatest poet-singer to ever come from my ancestral home. His music always reminds me of Autumn, my favorite season. His music is visceral and so multilayered. Rich, like the Autumn air. Today being September 1st, I broke out my Autumnal Playlist. The first song is "Into the Mystic." @Jamel, you should react to some Cat Stevens songs. "Wild World," would be a good one to start with, then maybe "Morning Has Broken," or "Peace Train." He's got quite the catalog, too.
Did you know that in the late 60s and early 70s, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan and The Band were all living in Woodstock, New York and making and recording some of their greatest music? That's why Van is in the Last Waltz - they used to be neighbors.
Me too! I love Jamel's reactions to Van Morrison because that's so how I feel when I listen to him. I'd like to add a couple of extra songs to the list: for fun/upbeat music, "The Bright Side of the Road" (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rCDZzf4ragg.html) and for a follow-up love song, more of an in-love-with-life song, "These are the Days" (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_lyve_egY8o.html).
I've been saying that since the early 70's LoL. Few artists make me NEED to move, beyond tapping my feet etc. The sad thing is he's really only known for "Moondance" and "Brown Eyed Girl". Those of us who know, of course we know, but I pity the rest.
One of my favorites of all time...It played on the radio when I was driving my husband to the hospital. He passed on three days later. Crazy beautiful song.
The New York Times has a series called “Tiny Love Stories”, that somehow captures immense love in just a few words. Yours belongs at the top of that list. It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Hang in there, J Gamble.
@@brazenlilhussy5975 hey man, I always wonder if his performance that night, in purple glitter could be the inspiration for the Grateful Deads dancing bear.
Who would have thought that a person from Northern Ireland would be blessed with such tremendous soul. If you aren't moved by the way he sings, you have no heart OR soul. Beautiful song. My favorite of his.
@@justaguy2365 No, no. I didn't mean that in a bad way. My parents emigrated from Ireland. I know of the very rich history of that wonderful country. I simply meant that if you didn't know better, you'd think Van was from the deep south with the deep soul he sings with. It's a gift from God.
Tupelo is also a tree with buds having a very sweet and unique taste when the bees use it to make their honey. The honey is considered to be some of the best in the world - the unique taste and sweetness is what Van is referring to with the words "Tupulo honey".
@@Gardeninggirl1107 If you want to hear a man in pain (from love) listen to "Somethin' Goin' On" by Al Kooper on the first Blood Sweat & Tears album: Child Is Father To The Man. The sax moans..."blow one for for yourself" he tells the sax man.
The production on Van's albums in the 70's was so amazing, everyting was so loud and clear and perfectly recorded, like he and his band are right in your room with you
This is one of my absolute favorite Van songs. I'm glad you got to it. I just want you to know you inspire me, man. I just set up my bitmoji classroom for remote teaching my 7th-grade class and on the wall, I made a virtual Just Be a Good Human poster to go with my shirt :-).
Swamp Pop music from Louisiana feel. That's why a lot of bands around here cover Van Morrison's music and people playing his music at wedding receptions.
Men with insight,,,men in granite. Nice little tribute to the founding fathers for their creation of this country. This song is about FREEDOM. 👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍😎
In many, many years of going to concerts, I have had two experiences where I simply had to say out loud "THAT'S THE VOICE". The first was when I first saw Paul McCartney. The other was Van the Man. It is simply amazing. Not to take away from any of the other bands and artists, but those two were just overwhelming.
Can tell from my screen name this is my favorite song? Given as a nickname by my mentor since I'm from Tupelo, MS and have an accent as thick as honey.
Makes me smile every time you talk about your girl. So happy ya'll found each other! I know that feeling. My girl passed on, but I dedicated this song to her several times a week. Glad you have that kind of love too, bro! Bless you both!
Jamel, thanks millions for playing Van Morrison. Please play "Astral Weeks " and let Van's poetic genius take us all to another time...another place !!!!
Van Morrison is one of the epitomes of soul music. His phrasing and breath control is superb, and the arrangement of this song, like virtually all his work, is a joy in itself. The musicians working with him are first cabin, outstanding in bringing this gorgeous song to life. Thank you so much for covering this, Jamel!
I love watching you listen to some of this old school music that I remember when I was young. Especially Van Morrison I listened to him with new ears! Thank you
this is one of my most favorite Van Morrison songs. brings a tear to my eye every time, it's just so perfect. i don't know if you ever consider doing entire albums, but Astral Weeks is one that just needs to be experienced all at once. it's definitely one of my Desert Island discs.
The most recognizable Van Morrison song and my personal favorite with those great lyrics . A great lyricist paints a picture in your mind eyes. You can feel as you are there. Everything about this song is A+. The singing of course but the sax,the keyboards, the guitars even the background vocals. The entire song is like a smoldering simmering fire. No shouting just a smooth touch.
Love Van Morrison, and this song!! Haven't heard it in years. I was always curious about tupelo honey, it's not something we see in the northeast US. I finally found some in Philadelphia several years ago. It was a darker, more robust honey, and it was delicious!
Van the man. He's my all-time favorite musician. I fell in love with the album "Astral Weeks' the first time I heard it at the age of twelve. It was Van at his most poetic and experimental, and the album is considered one of the best in the history of rock. I suggest reviewing the song "Astral Weeks." It's unlike anything you've ever heard. The story is that he had the jazz musicians do take after take after take (more than fifty) until he was finally satisfied with the result.
This is my all time favorite from Van Morrison - a beautiful, romantic love song with a big helping of soul. "She's alright with me..." all right as in "there's nothing wrong with her, she's flawless." Also check out "Caravan".
One of many, many Reactions sharing Van Morrison's genius with generations who are recently discovering Van. Another real treat is 'Wavelength live 2/1/1979 Belfast', simply sensational.
You think this was a love song, wait until you hear "Crazy Love". I used to dream about getting Joey Heatherton drunk and convincing her I wrote the song about her and had Van sing it
Van Morrison has always been one of my favorite artists. To me, he epitomizes American music. He is the Irish in all of us, holding the mirror up to our American souls.
Van Morrison is one of those guys whose music transcends genres and is something that anyone can appreciate regardless of where their general musical interests lie. Peace and Love brother. Keep up the awesome reactions.
