What a great lead in to an equally great song.. Van’s cool, calmness, only adds to his earth real musical status. Love guitar player, John Plantania.. every musician is top notch!
You won’t survive his selection process if you cant keep up…every performance of every song is different from the last time….if you aint paying attention you wont get noticed - Van sings scat remember and percussive voice and harmonica leads …he is top of the class
A one of a kind artist, poet and musician. His music transcends generations and culture. He never wrote for commercial success, but always from his heart.
Tastes vary, but i will argue this is the best music video ever. A group of great musicians playing a great song, and not a wasted, or superfluous note in the entire song. Even the tiny little few seconds of the triangle is given the space that it deserves. No attention seeking, just artists making art.
I like the studio version but this is awesome I have kisten to this umpteenth 😊times and the band and van deliver the goods on this performance this performance is one of my all-time fav of all time ..luv you Van
I feel that way about the run from Astral Weeks to Veedon Fleece. I like Van’s 80s output, too, mostly but I feel his 80s peak was right at the beginning with Common One. His recent string of albums are great, too. Back on form.
@@capnmo6718 Van said it himself with the name of one his more recent albums, "Born to Sing". No matter how transcendent or prolific the period, his output has remained, if nothing else, consistent. He's a true musician and artist, and its safe to say he will be creating and recording music til the day he dies.
Nominated for the all timey best eighties rock video (live) that nobody noticed because it wasn't on mtv, but now on RU-vid, ok....give me your candidates🤔 _ update, one year after this comment, I was looking for your inputs on other videos of that awesome time in music. So far, nobody's chimed in. But I'm still waiting. Van still rules. Hopefully we won't be annihilated by Russia or China before I get answers. God save us all.
So many good memories cruising on my 1980 850 Yamaha Midnight Special through the Canadian Rockies & having this playing on my “strapped to my chest” Sony walkman with earbuds crammed in my helmet. Sooo many good rides. I became one with the road & Van the man 🎧🎷🛵
so few things feel this good so deep inside of me...this IS the vibrational wavelength I want to be on...never let's me down, never let's me down, never let's me down...
This is just incredible. This entire performance is magic. This version of wavelength never disappoints- always brings me to balance. Why is this not on Spotify!
I just love seeing Peewee Ellis on the saxophone and clarinet he's one of my favorite guys I've watched him all these years with Van he may rest in peace he passed away this year one of my favorites
We all have our stories. Here is mine. 1980, twenty-five, over weight and tired of life. Inspiration? Van Morrison, wavelength, a doobie each morning & running. I ran & ran & ran. Lost 30 pounds, I don't run any more but I still listen
The creepiest thing happened just now. I am listening to Van, ready to leave house in couple of minutes and do exercise outside. I scrolled down, didn't see your comment at first, I told my brother to give me my phone and cable to transfer some of Van's music before I go. And then I looked into the screen and saw your comment. I am twenty-five and over weight, gained weight in the last two years of no smoking. Life is strange sometimes :D
Haha. One of those holy shit moments. I wish you success in your endevour. It will be hard at first and you will want to give up. The rewards begin when you surpass where you had to give up the day before.
Van Morrison Live at Montreux 1980 is the greatest live album of all time, period. Dwarfs the Allman Brothers' Live at Fillmore East and so many others. The live performances he gave after The Healing Game with Brian Kennedy and Katie Kissoon on backing vocals were great too, but this is just peak Van. Other than Astral Weeks and Moondance, Common One and Wavelength are his two best albums IMHO. These are nine masters at their absolute best.
I'm aghast is that the word I am so in love with Van again n again n again he is the man like musicians called him he is angels rejoicing he is the absolute
I remember hearing this on a juke box in Rota Spain first Med Cruise. I kept playing this over and over. I walked an Irish bar maid home to her flat when the bar closed. Hard to believe that was 40 years ago. Thanks for the memories who posted this.
Met Van in Portsmouth in 1985 . Went to see him in concert. He was just walking down the street on his own , cool AF Invited me back stage . I knew his guitarist at the time , Arty mc Glynn , comes from Omagh , my home town
a big respect to Van ... not only as a musician who wrote some of the best music ever ... but also as man who aint affraid to tell the truth when that is most needed ...
This is an iconic song from Sir Van Morrison.,another masterpiece from Van the Man...it is eternal.. this song has an elegance and class that will always defy time...
@George Ivan Morrison are you kidding me? Entertained ?? Listening to van on fire is to be transported. Picked up and carried along for the ride. If this isn’t really van Morrison then I gonna feel a right plonker. If it is then I’m honoured.
I've been a huge Van fan since I was 15. I know Wavelength was maligned by traditionalists as too pop. I didn't care. It's been my favorite song since I first heard it. But, had I heard this version first, the world would have opened up to me! Call me sentimental.
I have been blessed to see Van at both the Lion's Share in San Anselmo when he lived in Marin County , and at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, both very intimate settings. Stellar musicianship combined with impeccable songwriting is hard to beat!
I use to see Van Morrison at the Filmore in San Francisco all the time. His band was called Them. Then He moved to San Anselmo in Marin Ca. and I lived there and He would come and play at a place called Sleeping Lady Cafe, He would just drop in all the time. It was cool because Elvin Bishop and all kinds of musicians would pop in all the time.
@Robert Miller If I'm not mistaken Santana played at one of our high school dances in either '66 or'67. It was great seeing all those bands in their early days.
