As you brush your shoes
Stand before the mirror
And you comb your hair
Grab your coat and hat
And you walk, wet streets
Tryin' to remember
All the wild night breezes
In your mem'ry ever
And ev'rything looks so complete
When you're walkin' out on the street
And the wind catches your feet
Sends you flyin', cryin'
Wild night is calling, alright
Wild night is calling
And all the girls walk by
Dressed up for each other
And the boys do the boogie-woogie
On the corner of the street
And the people, passin' by
Stare in wild wonder
And the inside juke-box
Roars out just like thunder
And ev'rything looks so complete
When you walk out on the street
And the wind catches your feet
And sends you flyin', cryin'
Wild night is calling
Alright
Wild night is calling, alright
The wild night is calling
The wild night is calling
Come on out and dance
Whoa, come on out and make romance
Yes, indeed
Come on out and dance
Come on out, make romance
The wild night is calling, alright
The wild night is calling
Come on out an dance
Yeah, come on out 'n make romance
Come on out and dance, alright
Come on out, n' make romance.

Thank you for the great, great tune. Van Morrison has been one of my very favorites always, going back to Them. If Wild Night doesn't lift you and make you dance in your chair, you probably don't have a pulse.

The early 70's was an amazing time where the lines between pop/rock/folk/R&B/country were somewhat blurred. This song has a truly remarkable marriage of pop & R&B, with a fantistic voice and perfectly articulate instrumentals. Absolutely wonderful song! Never tire of it.

Hey Man, I like Johnny Cougar as much as the next guy, but you must have been really off for 22 years. John may be something special, but he isn't even in the same Galaxy as Van the Man. In fact, it's only a very select few that should even be on the same plane with him (plane in a geometrical sense).

This one's for a mild windy night in early October (1977). My pals and I rode to a main street bar in a small town in NE Ohio. Man, a few real nuts were out that night -- including some cat driving a V-dub Beetle wearing a Frankenstein mask. Some old guy who looked like Poopdeck Pappy (Popeyes's dad) was walking seven dogs of questionable pedigree along the sidewalk. The old man saw me approaching and he called out to his canine pals, "There's some legs you mutts can chaw on!" The crazy old man just laughed and all of dogs started jumping all over me and licking me. This tune was blasting out of the bar's jukebox. My pal ("Fearless Frank") was trying to impress a couple of gals with his prowess on the bar's improvised dance floor. Frank looked like a big-assed bird flapping its wings. Twenty more bikes (all choppers) were parked in front of that bar. After a few beers, some of the crew engaged in a wheelie contest. I wish I would have had my camera that night. We saw only one cop that night. Man, it was a wild night indeed. This tune was (and remains) king tone. Thanks Van and band!

And I was drop-dead gorgeous, really, but I never had time for games. So confident, so strong, so naive - so very lucky, in so many ways. What a time to be alive - so very different - we were ALL so lucky for that......so very lucky. And so glad I can remember some of the good parts. @Blah blah blah not only did we get to experience being truly free and musicians/music all about our inner beauty, minus commercialization; we were also blessed because we're the last human beings on this planet to experience, know securely, and respect deeply the idea of personal privacy. This world no longer even recognizes privacy when her drawers are waved in its face. Be very thankful 🙏: we got our bellies full, while our children never got a taste. It's quite sad that the human family has less recognition/ respect for each other than the tiniest living microorganisms do. Sometimes I feel so desperately for our children: they've really been cheated out of their birthright. I have to wonder just how did we get this way so quickly, when the things that meant the most to us are unknown to our youth.

Just the right tune to put my feet into action, skipping and stepping out, tap dancing, slow waltzing, sliding, hopping, sets my feet flying and jumping with delight, yes these are just some of the very great things that my Celtic 1st cousin Van music does to my body and my mind, it sets me free to head off into the mystic. Thanks to a very fine man called LARRY LAUNER who just informed me that most brilliant blessed and holy Ronnie Montrose on guitar and Bill the Electric Church on bass. For this extra reasons, I love this song 10 zillion times better.

Beautiful song. I went to grammar school, Stonehurst in Oakland with Walter Hawkins. We had a music class where we learned to sing a lot of songs together. Walter sat next to me in class. I love to sing and I can sing. Walter went on with his singing career, Praise the Lord. I went on to work with my Dad, Val at the Oakland Zoo with the Elephant Show, and I became a Animal Specialist. I sure miss Walter, may Our Dear Lord Bless him real good, and his family. And thank you Hawkins Family for all the great Psalm songs and music.

Got to see Van live in early '99. It was outdoors at the Reno Hilton, he opened for Dylan. Each guy played about an hour. Van was astounding; voice is still perfect.

Van Morrison went back to a different type of music. His band was tight and his songs moved quickly without long guitar solos. He is one of the best band arrangers.
