Irish Traditional Song 1960s Thin Lizzy - Whiskey in The Jar (Single 1972, Album Vagabonds of the Western World 1973) Philip Lynott - Vocals, Bass Eric Bell - Guitar Brian Downey - Drums
My dad was 59 when he died, 59. I feel betrayed, I feel like I'm being stood up by god himself. Oh daddy, I'm crying writing this, knowing I'll never hear your voice again or see your cheeky smile. I love you so, so much and my heart has been torn apart. You sent me this beautiful piece of art just months ago and I didn't even bother to react to your mail. Well, here I am now. I love it, daddy. To all of you out there, don't take your parents for granted or anybody for that matter, today they might be fine but they could be gone in a day with no warning.
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God and believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, I would have told you; for I go now to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. And you know the way to where I am going. I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you His Kingdom.” - Jesus of Nazareth 🙏
My dad just turned 50 when he died. He gave me the music he enjoyed. This is one of those songs. If I can share with others so they know what music is about, I think I did my dad right 😊
I wish I was born a lot earlier to have the privilege of going to a record shop to buy a vinyl…born 1979.. Christmas Eve I made the 70s by a week… and proud
In 1972 the great band 'Tweed' played support to this up coming band in Dreamland in Athy Co. Kildare. Myself and and another Tweed fan sat behind their PA that night as they rocked Athy. Thin Lizzy forever...👏👏🎶🎶
Yes great musicians and Phil Lynott, how could you go wrong? Seriously I am more than old enough to remember when this song came out. Who knew that it would be the inspiration for a whole, great genre of music? You know Celtic Punk/Rock.
I’m 70 years young now.I’ll tell you what man these where the boys back in the day,I’m still fit .still rocking my bike.still blasting man.still strong .
To my old Marine Corps brother... Hey Lucky, I can't hear a Thin Lizzy song without remembering you and your Maverick. 50 years ago, seems like yesterday!
Phil is definitely up in Heaven, because he rocked the Hell right out of himself. Tragic ending to a young life. Be wise kids, and just say no to drugs. No bullshit.
I've heard no less than 50 versions of this song and that one metal band is the only group to disrespect it by playing someone's else's version and making the stupidest video in the world to go along with it. Enough about those sellouts... This has the raddest guitar solo.
Seen this amazing man and his band in the 1970s in Belfast kings Hall just down the road from me once seen never forgotten. RIP Phil sadly missed xxx 😪😘😘☘☘☘☘
50 years later and this song is still so incredible and it's importance on Rock can not be disputed. Bands like this have influenced sooooooo many modern musicians.
I first heard of Thin Lizzy back in 1976 with their album "Jail Break". I was hooked from there on. I just love Phil Lynotts rich voice. It work so well with all their songs. Truly a talented individual. RIP
This song by thin lizzie 47 years old Unbelievable where do the years go Phil lynott so sad he ain't with us anymore but a tremendous rockstar Left us with some classics boys are back god bless ya dude
@@darrelljebb4544 friggin hell I'm from west Brom stone cross I worked in Wolverhampton Wensdfield the steel park Anyway think he may have been the first black guy to front a metal band
This song reminds me of growing up in Glasgow, my da played this on guitar. Used to sing it. Breaks my heart to hear but such fond memories. He would tell me all about Phil ( think I was 7 lol) he would try to get me to play it on guitar. Years on I lost him 3 years ago and I play it on guitar reminds me of him
I play this for my Children! Good to know that they will cherish it when I'm gone. I'm sure your Da loved and still loves you from above like I love me little darlin angels ❤️
In a time and place when pure talent and gift shine through with music, never ever, was colour brought into music. Phil it not as a supreme talented rock musician who was took too soon. He had gift ,presence, ability and showmanship and those days can never be replaced. Hats off to you Phil ,you were brilliant

"Whiskey in The Jar" is an old Irish traditional folk song . Even Peter, Paul, And Mary recorded a version of it. . So, it is fitting that the Irish band, Thin Lizzy also recorded it
One for the Generations It was my dad that played this on vinyl in 1987, usually on a Sunday whilst we were all helping with the roast, back when we had an old JVC stereo with a tape deck and a turntable Absolutely F***king brilliant, nothing can bring back those times
I wasn't working in 73, I was a skinny kid in PNG. I came to Australia in 75 and this was one of the many musical masterpieces that blew my young mind. It never recovered...
Ich mag die Version von den Dubliners und auch die von Metallica - aber die Interpretation von Thin Lizzy verursacht mir immer noch jedes Mal eine Gänsehaut
I remember hearing this Song for the first Time,it was the 80s,working on Site in Dublin as an apprentice electrician,Gerry Ryan DJ played it..And im Still playing it Today 2023 …Phill is a Crumlin man like myself, born and Bred, but by God that Man left his Mark,God Bless our Philip Lynott 🙏
Phil lynott what a super musical powerhouse ! No one knows what he went through?…but we can all acknowledge this man was one of the greatest rock superstars ever to be .., irreplaceable along with his iconic beautiful music when the world was a much better place and he helped make it that better place ! Phil I know you’re in heaven and yes! Your music lives on line it was just written yesterday!!!we all still love you and thinlizzy!!!
@@bulldog161 She really does. Sadly she can no longer hear music which is a great loss for her and one which I really feel. I cannot imagine what it would be like to never hear music again.
I was very lucky to see them live at Oxford Apollo back in the late 70's really good live band one of the best gig's I've ever been to. RIP Phil, gone but never ever forgotten.
I come back to this every now and then and absolutely love the sound and power through a set of cans, the fantastic guitar work of Eric's is still something even after all this time, RIP Phil, still listening.
Wtf man, I'm American and first time hearing this. Some of my best memories are in Arizona growing up in desert with this song, redone. Man, this song hit me, by Lizzy, what a gem!
He lives on in our hearts , so yeah , he IS out there somewhere ! When we remember someone who touched our heart , they live on & and we feel the warmth of their love deep in our hearts. Gone how long, but still making us smile . We mourn not their passing , but our own loss. Let's love and admire those still around & tell them what we wish we could have said. Some quotes I love & try to live by. Keep calm & carry on...Do unto others ...Never go to bed mad at the other...Keep ya' head down & dont ever stop....Live & let live , But LOVE as if there were NO tomarrows....& my favorite ""Keep on truckin' & I'll catch you on the flip-side.''
The day my stepfather handed down his vinyl collection to me was the day I fell in love with Thin Lizzy. Hidden in the crates of wax was a poster of Phil donning a Sid Vicious button. I grew up on punk rock in the 80's and didn't really care for the Pistols at the time, but when I saw that poster, I knew I had to listen to the Thin Lizzy wax right away and I'm glad I did. Hell! It even gave me an appreciation for the Pistols. Wish I could thank my stepfather again. Rip Michael Louis.
@@kateoloughlin8774 Thank you! My grandparents are from Galway and I have living relatives there. I need to make my way over to your beautiful country soon.
