Van painting FAIL + Unboxing! 

Hey record collector here, Be carfule with the heat of the van so you records don't get warped. I have records warp in the car. Don't have to stress about it but thought I would bring it up.

For a person who hates television, it’s really great to be watching something that’s real, well planned, and always fresh. There’s definitely not enough of it. But I guess that’s why ‘we’ are unicorns/not from here lol

Before making a roof deck, research the load limit of your fibreglass top. When I had my fibreglass top installed the manufacturer said to be careful to not load more than 120lbs on it. Plus the more “off roading” you do and the more weight you have on it will make it easier to pop a leak at the seams. You’re doing great and I enjoy watching all aspects of your van life.

I have a record player in my "computer room" where I used to do medical transcription at home. When I lived in South Jersey I pressed records for 9 1/2 years at CBS Records in Pitman, NJ before they shut down to make CD's and I lost my job. I have a used record store in my small town and I love Vinyl!! I'm 72 and live in Ohio.

I VOTE FOR NAMING THE VAN...... " THE MOTHERSHIP"...

I think you should absolutely keep the Astronaut nickname for us. It pays homage to your roots (and I’ve been a follower since before you were monetized). Plus it represents you being eclectic and exploring. In addition, your sis suggested it and she has been such a big supporter of this journey.

Not to rain on your parade, but there’s a reason the in-car turntable never became the universal standard media format in cars. Heat will warp the vinyl

Hi Mateo!! Heads up that records are sensitive to extreme heat. Leaving your records in a hot vehicle or out in the sun will cause them to soften and warp.

That table was my work desk. I'm still using it. it's been 3 or so years.

I screamed when you showed Valerie June! I was introduced to her by a client about 10 yrs ago. It wasn't for her music, however. It was for her hair! Her locs are a work of art, to me. Shortly thereafter, i discovered her music. ❤❤❤

In your build it would be neat for Lars to have some climbing shelves & his own decked out cubby space. You might check into renting a paint booth or an automotive trade school, community college that might let you use their paint booth. My husband had a student at our local community college automotive program paint his truck using the school's paint booth to keep the truck dust/bug free & they used a sprayer to paint. It turned out great, we only had to pay for the paint. You could still tie in your new van to the astronaut theme, maybe something to do with the galaxy, moon, space. Love the new light! 💙🌌🪐🌠🌜

Heeeyy Mateo. Im one of those people that believes there's a reason for everything. I saw a comment earlier that mentioned a spray gun painter and I'd like to double down on that comment. My ex husband painted his sister's car back in the day with a roller. I wasn't there when it was done, so I'm not sure about his skill level while painting but the finished product came out looking like house paint job on a car. Maybe it was the striations from the brush🤷🏾‍♀️ Not sure if you can exchange anything but maybe it's worth looking into. All of your ideas sound so Amazing‼️ Really excited to see where this adventure goes 💕💕

I like the idea of the vinyl music lounge. I have a large collection of albums, including classical, gospel, classic rock, opera, Motown, country, and indie. I am still collecting and listening. Let's do it!

First of all, I love Smashing Pumpkins!!! That takes me back to my Senior year in HS. I absolutely love the idea of the lounge with the music and lights. So groovy! Makes me miss my record player and LPs I gave to my kiddo when I left (The Fifth Dimension LP was one of them! 😱) Anyhoo, love seeing the progress and fun things you’re adding in this build!☮️

I have to say you really have good taste in music for a young guy. I love Indie music, but also love oldies. I've never been a huge fan of Pop music. Your idea for a record lounge in your van is epic. How original! I have a record player for my van, but I don't have the van yet. LOL I think you're an old soul, Mateo. I love music!! And I greatly appreciate your introducing me to new tunes!! My Dad was a musician who sang (like Barry White), played keys, guitar, and most importantly bass. He passed last summer. I helped my Step Mom by going through and cataloging all of his musical furniture, instruments, and accessories. That was a huge task that took days. My Dad lived in Florida, and I in NJ. Unfortunately, I didn't have the money to ship back much of his stuff, but I did get his bass and some other stuff. That bass was like an appendage of my Dad's. I had it displayed in my living room, and could barely look at it, let alone play it (which, BTW, I had no knowledge of playing or reading music at that time). My three sons encouraged me to watch RU-vid videos to learn, but...I ended up going back to university for a degree in English/Writing, AND decided to minor in Music! This past semester, I proudly admit that Music is much more difficult than I had ever imagined, and I am beginning to learn to read and play!🥰This summer, I will be practicing keys, and my Dad's bass. I am so excited to have found you on RU-vid!!! Between your kindness, your love of nature, Van Life, Lars (I have 2 cats), cooking (and enjoying the fruits of your labor), and creative music skills...Dude...!!! I enjoy all of those things, plus writing, drawing and painting. Thank you again for introducing me to new genres of music, and for taking us all on your adventures!! I'm loving it. You may not have heard of the movie, it was sort of a comedy with Tim Allen, but a name that comes to mind for the van is "Galaxy Quest" the motto theme was "Never give up, never surrender!" When you showed the clip of the astronaut lights, it hit me to use that name. You are on a quest, a journey of discovery, & since we followers are "astronauts" it fits to keep calling us that! Your "ship" is just bigger now. You're doing what I'd hoped to do when I decided I didn't want to live in an apartment again, but circumstances have kept me from pursuing that just yet, so I'm living vicariously through your videos. Have you looked into paint spraying? Think you will get the most professional or smooth looking finish.
