This video is second in a 4-part series documenting our journey across Canada & the US by rail in the spring of 2023
-In Part 1 we took VIA Rail's "Canadian" from Toronto to Vancouver
-Here in Part 2 we explore Vancouver Island by rental car, ferry & Cowichan Valley Railway tour train
-In Part 3 we journey south from Vancouver aboard Amtrak's "Cascades" to Seattle
-And in Part 4 we travel east from Seattle aboard Amtrak's "Empire Builder"
to Chicago & "Lakeshore Limited" to Buffalo

A note about our rental car: There is a handy Hertz rental car facility located right in Vancouver's Pacific Central Station however for this trip we used Budget located at The Rise

26:00 mark: Thanks for the good-timing of being there to record the movement of the Hillcrest #1 Shay being moved. I'm hopeful to see it operating (pulling the visitor train) in 2024. That locomotive will be on outdoor display on the BC Day long-weekend, for people to admire it (August 5-7, 2023)

You used to be able to take Via Rail from Nanaimo to Courtenay on Vancouver Island on the old E&N lines twice daily. I'm not sure when that ended, but I used it last in the mid-90's.
