(Unless the meal is a tough old rattlesnake) Sterling I have a souvenir smooth grey volcanic rock from a beach on the Olympic Peninsula. Some beautiful rain forest there too. A camper's experience.

Just found your channel, and this is the first video I've watched. I live in Alberta and I've been out to the west coast but not on my bike...yet. Looking forward to watching your videos from your Canada trip. On a side note, for those of us that actually live a real life, 9-5 with kids, a dog, normal life etc, it's funny to hear that your days were filled with annoyance due to some border paperwork and city traffic lol. Soft much? LOL. Just kidding, kind of. It's easy to lose perspective of our lives, especially in Canada/US, and the fact that we all have lives that others can only dream about. I try to think like this so that when I do have time for a quick bike trip I truly stay in the moment and stay grateful for the life I have.

If you're coming from the north east into Washington state catch highway 20 through the orchard towns and on to the Northern Cascade Loop. It's known to be the most scenic highway west around the Cascade Mountains. You'll come into the area from the North, and As you reach the coast you cross onto Fidalgo Island then Whidbey Island, following highway 20 south through Whidbey the whole time. That highway ends in Clinton at the ferry boat landing that takes you to the mainland at Mukilteo. They load the motorcycles first(in the front of the ferry boat). There was only two motorcycles, and the other guy was from Rochester, New York. I was riding my Yamaha FJR1300a. Atlanta, Georgia my starting point. it was mid August in 2016. 7835 miles and 19 states. Visited my son in the Seattle area. The northwest coastal region is an adventurers paradise. So much to see, if you're willing. It was hands down the best motorcycle trip I've ever taken. I went in mid August. The weather in the Seattle area was perfect. Sunny, 78 degrees. Hurricane Ridge to view Mount Olympus should be on your bucket list too. I was 56 years old and rode 7835 miles in 20 days. Hotels every third night, and camped where ever I could the rest of the time. I was limited by the machine I rode, but it was okay. In some instances I camped several yards from my cycle. We have an enormous and diverse country. I saw Glacier National Park outside of Kalispell, Montana, and speaking of Montana what a ride. There's a reason they call it "big sky country". Rode through the Badlands of South Dakota on the way. Stayed in Bozeman overnight, then rode for over four hours the next day in rain storms, before it cleared up, and I had a stupendous ride for the rest of the way to Kalispell. The second half of the day was like a sweet reward for the first half, but in truth with my face shield treated with Rain-X, the ride in the rain was enjoyable too. From Seattle I hopscotched through Oregon, going inland to Eugene to see my nephew, then to the Oregon coast which I couldn't miss. Then the PCH through Cali. There is nothing, in my opinion, like a long motorcycle journey, with the wind blowing over you, to lift your spirits, and make you feel like you're part of God's universe. No timeline if you can. Just go the way you feel is right.

Years ago I too was camping on the west coast of the island. Never having been before we figured it would be a quiet camp since it was somewhat remote. NOT SO MUCH. It turned out to be one of those nightmare camping grounds with hordes of campers in tiny little camping zones crammed together like sardines. Watch out for the campgrounds just south of Tofino.

I discovered a great use for the firebox if camping at the sea. You can gather driftwood around the firebox, whilst you burn whatever dry wood you have available, which dries out the driftwood and keeps your fire going for longer. Probably more use in wet climates, but it works well here in Scotland

WELCOME to our unique special areas on this spectacular island. Enjoy your trip & wallow in your upcoming adventures. Just a bit of advice... SLOW DOWN. Do NOT rip through small towns & little hamlets. The island is full of services IF you stop (for example, which you missed en route to Port Renvew Jordan River, Sooke, Shirley. You missed well stocked grocery stores, picturesque ocean views campgrounds, and amazing trails down to the ocean.) That are signs posted on the highway. Each area is so different. Why jump on your bike & push to an unknown destination unprepared without valuable research. You came here to EXPERIENCE, not sit on your bike & see pavement. You mentioned a few times about the stress you've experienced prior to your arrival. SLOW down walk, hike, jump in the ocean & BREATHE. There are numerous lighthouses to visit etc. Do your research while eating & preplan. Read those road signs that lead you to true memorial adventures, don't keep on riding, you are truly & sadly missing out on your TRUE purpose of being here. There are also great historical facts on how our forefathers that came from afar, broke the land, let alone on what actually drew these true adventurers to settle here. Great knowledge to enrich your brain from our Indigenous peoples. I'll keep on watching & being hopeful that your stress levels disappear & you TRULY will experience this amazing & unique island.
@SterlingNoren
@SterlingNoren Год назад
It’s going to take a few episodes before my stress level goes down. I was pretty exhausted after filming the Oregon, BDR and I have been on the road for over a month making videos every day at this point in the journey. But trust me, I do slow down relax and have a mad amount of fun in the upcoming episodes.

Put the cameras away for a few day, get some good sleep, and ride that beautiful coast and mountain country..... and find your joy again.
