A multi-day canoe trip has never been on my adventure list. I've been in a canoe a couple of times and my partner, Mirko has never been in a canoe. But after reading a few books about epic expeditions through remote parts of northern Canada, I was interested in trying a new adventure - and experiencing what it's like to portage.
Located east of Campbell River in the heart of the Sayward Forest, the Sayward Canoe Route is nearly 50 km and consists of 12 lakes (39 total km of paddling) and 12 portages (8 km of total portages) that we did over four days and three nights. So, how did it go? Watch and find out!
Note: This trip is beginner friendly. The lakes/portages are never far from a logging road, but the route still feels like you're in the wilderness. Do the route counter clockwise and start at Morton Lake Provincial Park. To make portaging easier, get an expedition cart and pack light (what you would normally include for a backcountry hiking trip).
