Tommy I doubt it. Really good traditional style shows don’t usually win anymore. You have to have some weird ass prop with no traditional value at all. That goes for both DCI and BOA.
Correct me if im wrong but I think back in 2016, Stephen F Austin won their area, and right behind them were a band with 14-16 tubas! Its just a very well executed show, I promise size does not matter in this context

This is a 1990's-early 2000's title winning show, not a 2019 title winning show. Unfortunate, but today it's all about the power percussion and props, none of which this band has. I couldn't believe the snares weren't used more effectively. I think when you have this many members, you need elements on the field to kind of break up things, otherwise it just looks like a bunch of soldiers running around. Again, this show back in the 1990's would trump.
This is far from what they had in at era, this is closer to Cadets 2018 than anything from the 90’s and 2000’s. Also if this isn’t a contest winning show nowadays tell me why Reagan and Carmel (the two most traditional bands in terms of show design nowadays, especially Reagan) are at the top of the rankings right now. Reagan has no props and very little theming, not to mention drill directly out of 90’s and 2000’s era Cavies with music that would’ve fit perfectly with their 2000’s shows yet they haven’t dropped a single caption all season
Love the sound and pit but ngl I have a dislike of the drumline drill, I understand having that many in a drum line but at least get more creative, I think its just a waste of potential, same with the ending musically. Great performance
Well, talk to BOA about it. Because that’s not how the sheets work. The dance team is effectively staged and the choreography highlights the musical phrase. And there is no color guard caption. So, if they won a guard trophy, be mad. But the show is visually effective. And that whole team has great technique. And I get what you are saying, I have been teaching colorguard for 20 years. And it bugs me. But your anger should be directed at BOA for not valuing equipment. And maybe you are younger, and you haven’t had to watch Stephen Austin in Grand Nats with zero flags. Not even a streamer. Not even a prop. Vandergrift does what they do very well, and don’t let that frustrate you. Sometimes doing the most doesn’t win, but it still has value.
Texas made southern cornbread. Yah can keep your soy broken arrow limped noodles and estrogen Lucas oil Gatorade. I’ll have me a ol’ t -steak, Texas shaped. I reckon the Freemasons won’t care too much for Texas bands, they got values, not new-age pink uniforms and trendy agenda-driven shows. Hell, but I do figured we got 5 or 6 Texas cornbreads going to nats this year. Carmel is just some gmo candy sold at Walmart. Avon, makeup for old hags. Last time I saw Benny Davis or left grove, Garth brooks was in town for a country concert. Are the Freemasons going to make the Cavaliers coed you think? Hell, I reckon I’ll put 50 silver dollars they do, and dad damn it, ain’t that a crock if they do.
More Uneducated mouth from texas.... Ha Crossmen is 12th at dci Thats the best texas has to offer... I do have to say Ronald Reagan hs looks very good this year....great design..! But So does Carmel... Good luck.
Jeff are you an adult? I hope not, because that’s pretty sad. I’m not sure why you’re in such uproar about this. I’m really curious which state you are from. Suggest to your local band director that they should go to boa San Antonio. That’s probably a good to find out. Which band scored the highest score in prelims in the history of grand nationals??? I’ll help you here, Hebron.
Hey dingbat... Have won boa grand nationals & marched top 12 dci corps & judged them all... I still call out B S when i see & hear it... So watch your mouth... Or learn from your mouth mistakes....
Jeff Wilkinson the fact is Jeff, if you’re so called resume is true. And I truly don’t care what you’ve done. Act like an adult if you are one. I don’t care about critiques of other band, that is part of being good enough to draw attention. I don’t care for mouth breathing haters. If you’re a band director you would know that you’re speech would be in violation of your campus’s social media policy!
Jeff Wilkinson all you’ve said is mean things or calling everything bs. Lol your full of bs. You’ve provided absolutely no facts whatsoever to what your saying lol. So please silence yourself. Before you embarrass yourself again.
2 years ago, San Antonio. Avon High came to Texas; everyone expected they would demolish the opposition. They failed to medal. See this year's grand nats for proof that Band really is better in Texas.
Well, you’re both wrong. Texas Scores are definitely high, but only by maybe 1-2 points for the top groups. Again, it’s contest dynamics. There are more competitive programs and the regionals are bigger, and that drives the numbers up. But also, judging Avon by a regional performance is useless. There is no slotting for Grand Nats. And they still scored well at the regional. There are Fantastic programs from all over the place. Have you forgotten Broken Arrow? They have a title too! All the areas have different styles and they are all valid.
Jeff Wilkinson you do realize that during those three years the champion of the San Antonio Super Regional for each respective year has not shown up to grand nats. Yeah, Texas bands have shown up, but not the super regional champion. In fact, correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the last time a San Antonio super regional champion showed up to grand nats, they won. That was The Woodlands in 2013.
