Obligatory comment for all Black Sails 2x4 reactions: can't wait to see your reaction to the next one. Regarding the importance of Nassau, I believe the time when the show takes place is also the time of England and Spain competing for their shares of the Americas, and Bahamas are basically a stone throw away from Cuba (Spanish back then) and Florida (also Spanish). Strategically it would be an extremely important foothold for England to maintain there, definitely worth ferrying a whole bunch of people over as well as finding a novel way of dealing with piracy.
The thing I love most about this show is how it subverts the troupes you think are coming. I loved that it always surprised me. Does Flint have the authority to toss Lord Hamilton out? Ma'am, I think Flint can do whatever TF he wants. 🤣🤣🤣
Pirate captains were elected by the crew, and could be voted out at any time if a majority of the crew decided to elect a new captain. So all Jack needed was majority support in order to get his own ship, which Max (and Idelle) provided through Mr. Featherstone's defection.
England looks at Nassau as a resource, not as a beautiful island, indigenous, independent people... Just something they could take by fiat and throw away when they’re done. It’s civilization. Mrs. Barlow steals every scene for me. The actress is magnificent. I hope I don’t step on a rake, saying this, but It’s great to see a horny female lead who’s not a comedic sidekick stereotype. When Mr. Guthrie offers to Eleanor to help her get everything she’s always wanted, I really wish I knew more of what that is.
