This is Vanessa Williams signature legacy song. It went #1 for 5 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. Her others include Pocahontas ‘Colors Of The Wind’, ‘Just For Tonight’, ‘Dreamin’, ‘The Sweetest Days’.
Vanessa showed the world just how truly beautiful she really is. WOW. I remember her being treated WRONG but shw landed on her feet with dignity and grace. What a WOMAN.👍💯⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
✨❄️✨ Such a gorgeous song performed by a gorgeous woman. As much as I LIVE for edgy ladies like Madonna, there’s something so cosy and magical about ultra femme beauties with pretty voices like Vanessa Williams. The styling in this video is dreamy. This song is a perfect ballad, and the writers of course deserve a lot of that credit. It was a MASSIVE hit in Australia, to the point where it felt like it would never stop playing on a video chart show called Video Hits. The only hit Vanessa had in Australia. Early to mid 90s was THE era for slushy ballads! This song and video were also essential to her comeback in terms of putting the Miss America nude photo scandal behind her. So interesting to compare the difficulty she had coming back vs the smooth defiance Madonna used to make her nude scandal just a bump on her golden road. Some of that is doubtlessly about race, about a white woman having more freedom to be perceived differently and survive, but it’s also about that polarisation that all women face in patriarchy, the virgin/whore dichotomy that Madonna explored and challenged right from the start, giving her more colours on her public identity palette. For Vanessa it was a very strong message of pick a side, girl! You can be our glossy virtuous beautiful Miss America, or you can be dethroned by the slightest scandal. I’m glad she triumphed, because none of those judgements are fair.
Absolutely agree about the Scandal and I think they apology was too little too late. Funny thing is no one remembers the name of the woman who filled her place
First black miss America! Then her crown was taken back when nude pictures surfaced. Big marylin/Madonna type of scandal in the eighties. “Dreaming” is another huge hit for her. Furthermore, her Christmas albums are among my favorites!!
It's a gorgeous song, and she does such a great job singing it. It can easily bring a tear to your eye. This song is a standard! It's not a soundtrack song. It's probably her biggest-selling song.
VW is one of the most beautiful women of the past 40 years. Totally underrated vocalist and served comedy gold on Ugly Betty. “Save the Best” should have gotten her the Grammy. “Darlin’ I” is my all time favorite.. from her first release, while “Star Bright” is the only holiday album I’ve ever purchased and it goes on repeat every December. She handled the whole Miss America fiasco with so much grace and class that it had the opposite effect- EVERYONE knew her name. And when she released her first album people were truly blown away to discover she had the voice to match the face. Vanessa showed us how to make lemonade!
This was her biggest single and her only n.1 single. This was the third single of her ''Confort Zone''. This song spent five weeks at n.1 in US and was labaled to be her signature song and making her second album ''The Confort Zone'' her best selling album to date. She have four top 10 singles during her career. Nobody wanted this song until Vanessa hear the demo and told that was her story of her scandal who she have a backclash after her nude pictures was released in magazine and lost her title of Miss America in 1984. After that scandal, she rebound and have a successful career has a singer and actress. This song resonated her so much and wanted to recording immidiatly. It's was one of the last songs recording on this album.
And i remember Vanessa Williams, since i was young. The first time i hear Vanessa Williams song was with the theme song of ''Pocahontas'' (Disney movie), ''The colours of the Wind'', a another massive hit for her and a another incredible ballad.
I know you love a good ballad Empress! 😂 I remember being shocked when I first heard this song because it was so different from her previous singles. I was a fan of her music from the beginning starting with her first single The Right Stuff but this song became such a huge hit for her that it will always now be her signature song. I think there was a lot of universal appeal in the simplicity of the lyrics and the sentiment and also the fact that she sang it in a very beautiful but standard style. It doesn't hurt that she is just a drop dead gorgeous woman and looks stunning in the video which I remember was played on heavy rotation on both MTV and VH1.
A classic, a song that stood the test of time. You can’t sleep on Vanessa at all. This song still pulls at the heartstrings. Her delivery is so genuine.
I've been away for a few months building a custom home for someone and just got and looked for asap id forgotten just how beautiful you are dang darlin there's a saying in Spanish perhaps you know it already ay que mujure tan mas hermosa ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ wish I could say it was about the beautiful music you play every day but I'd be lying today's its all about you and just how gorgeous you are ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I've loved her since the first time I saw the music video for "The Right Stuff". My 2nd favorite music video ever, with all its late 80s glory. 😂 Dreamin', Happiness & Running Back to You are all excellent too. Great artist and easily one of the most beautiful women to ever walk the planet! The first black Miss America too.
E, thought you may have heard this @ Kroger when you were growing up. Anyway, being a music nerd, I’ve always said this about VW: no disrespect to her pop hits (and signature songs) “Save The Best For Last” and “Colors of the Wind” but _I_ love the R&B side of Vanessa. “Work To Do” feat Black Sheep (Isley Bros cover), for starters. I 😂 bc in the RU-vid comment sections of V’s videos where she’s showing some ‘sista girl’, you’ll see an “OMG I didn’t know Vanessa was like that” post. 🤦🏽♂️✌🏽
Last fall I got to see her for a special live interview and concert in NYC. She performed a variety of songs--Broadway show tunes, jazz, and a couple of her pop/R and B hits. Of course she ended the evening with Save the Best for Last. Just piano accompaniement. She's a very skilled singer and performer. In between songs she sat down for an interview about her life and career and music. First time I ever saw her perform live and had a great evening out.
OMG EVERYTIME I HEAR THIS SONG IT REMINDS ME A FRIEND OF MINE.SHE WAS A KOOL FRIEND OF MINE.THIS SONG CAME OUT IN 1992 AND SHE WAS ABOUT TO GRADUATE AS A SOPHOMORE.....AND THE THEME SONG OF HER GRADUATION WAS .....VANESSA WILLIAMS(SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST) IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.WHERE EVER SHE IS I WISH HER THE BEST.
It drives my husband mad when she sings sometimes the sun goes round the moon, because he’s a scientist and no romantic at all, but I think it’s a beautiful song, and coz it drives him mad I have to sing that part the most :D As if anyone could overlook Vanessa Williams though. She’s stunning inside and out.
Yes, _UPTIGHT_ Teri. 😂 She and Nicole Ari Parker, who played Teri in the Showtime series, could pass for sisters/cousins. Another, VW lookalike is Giselle of RH of Potomac.
Vanessa Williams was underrated as a pop artist/singer. She kinda was in the Pebbles space during the day and she was kinda hot for a minute as an artist but it didnt last long.
I dont think there will ever be such a perfect pairing of a song with a singer. The words to the song, the back ground instrumental, the photography in the video is just as gorgeous as Vanessa Williams was back then
This is a song about Jesus ! Jesus first miracle ! Bible reference! Which is why this song has such spiritual significance- it’s about Jesus turning water into wine (the best for last ) to save us from shame and his promise of the New Covenant and promise of a new day to come upon Jesus’ return! We have been transformed into the New Jews and given the title of his chosen ones !
***VIVA VANESSA!! ..TRIVIA TIME!!!*** ....I just HAD to save the Best.... (4:51)... - ....I wasn't gonna post because I'm working, but Empress HAD to drag me in with 'Nessa! ...this, was THE Song that catapulted her into SUPERSTARDOM...She released her "Comfort Zone" Album Fall of 1991, and had a Pop / Dance Hit ("Running Back"), & a R&B hit with the title track ..... - ...but, SHOCKED everyone with this Adult Contemporary Ballad, as the 3rd single....uh-OH..... ba-BOOM! ....MASSIVE Worldwide hit, and it hit #1 AC, and #1 Pop...for SEVEN WEEKS! ...Vanessa was FINALLY respected as a Singer....ACTRESS, came later.... - ....a Song about a Woman in love with her (Male) Best Friend, who FINALLY 'picks' the One beside him all along hit a LOT of Hearts, in Spring of 1992....It wasn't a part of a 'Soundtrack' (5:23), but Vanessa was asked to do a LOT of Soundtrack Songs, afterwards, bringing her into acting.... - ....she is, and will ALWAYS be...the *ULTIMATE* Miss America....I'd give the charts, but I GOTTA WORK! ...ha-HAA!!
It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 5 weeks along with the Hot 100 Airplay/Radio Songs. It also topped the Adult Contemporary chart as well. Mariah Carey’s ‘Make It Happen’ was #2 at the time, Radio Songs. Vanessa Williams is a terrific singer. ‘Just For Tonight’ is another 🔥
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the drama Vanessa had with LA and Babyface re: Pebbles and the hit song “Girlfirend”. LaFace did her dirty but it’s the backhanded nature of the music industry.
@@gabrielmcdonnell8699 ...well, since I WAS in the 'Industry' I'm aware of the backhanded nature..this was from her 2nd Album, and I already gave Empress info about "Girlfriend" on "The Right Stuff" post....
