This tents minimal mesh and the built in heavy duty floor and its ease of set up is a winner in my book I ve tested it on many occasions. I pack just the inner tent on cold rainless nights and it becomes quite lightweight without the outer rainfly. The minimal mesh keeps it warm. In high winds you can really tighten this baby up because of the tunnel. Just throw away all the sacks and replace pegs like Summit or Nothing wisely suggests and you re a happy trekker.

I’ve got a Vango Soul 300, used it on Lochnagar and Windy Gyle in the Cheviots kept me dry and was hit by about a 30 mph gales had no issues with it, plenty of space for me loved it.

I think the two guide lines by the door need to be angled out to the side more. All your tent reviews are done in beautiful weather. Don't you know that sometimes when you go camping it will rain? I know it happened to me once back in 1995. Maybe you should try taking some of these tents out when it's not so perfect.

Great video, i've had my Soul 100 for about 2 years now. Heavy wind & rain its great because its so low to the ground. The poles break easily but i'm so impressed with it, but with more motorbike gear needed on my trips i'm going to upgrade. Fed up of rolling over onto my motorbike boots every evening. Keep up the nice work, very detailed

All camp stuff seems to arrive in plastic bags under £100. Yep outer to inner would be better, not everyone lives in Australia or California- we get rain! I would design tents to be erected in a wind tunnel with shower on, to get a normal environment to most campers. How's the 7 minutes erection going?
@SummitOrNothing
@SummitOrNothing 4 года назад
Haha! The 7 minute erection is only half the battle - its getting it to stay up that may present a problem lol.

Hi Trev. Pros - Cheap. Cons - Condensation is a problem in the NYX 200 so I suspect that it’ll be the same with this. After a shower, open the front door and the sleeping area gets wet. Inner pitch first. No vestibule to speak of. No sitting headroom. It has nothing to do with gear snobbery, but what’s practical. For the price of buying this and finding out it’s the wrong tent and then buying another “cheap” tent, You could have something more suitable. (I know you have loads of tents already.) Quite honestly, if folks did their research and listened and learned from others then they’d not make the mistake of buying cheap and buying twice. I think you came to the right conclusion with this one.
@SummitOrNothing
@SummitOrNothing 4 года назад
Yea - you're quite right there, Graham - this is certainly a flawed and unimpressive little tent - and I don't think those poles would be up to much at all, either. The kids enjoyed it though - so may just be their garden tent from now on!

Once again as usual a great review, think you do a great service for the budget camper! I like Vango, have numerous old and new Vangos and all still survive to this day, one is over 20 years old and still my favourite tent. I guess this “fair weather” tent does the job as a budget tent. But as an adventure training instructor, I’ve always said, like you Trev, get that outer skin tight. I’ve never liked tents that build from inner first which is why I call it a fair weather tent. Anyway great review mate always fair info from You nice one!

Summit Or Nothing my first tent (back a good 20-25 years now) had those fiberglass poles with the fiberglass connectors between poles, and quite quickly those connectors would start to split (mainly operator error, I assume - trying to fold them when the pole segments weren’t *quite* out of the sleeves, that sort of thing). Fiberglass with aluminum connector sleeves is already a lot more durable.

I have been using a Vango Ark 300+ fantastic - but have just purchased the Soul (lighter) for a trip via bus for a weekend and minimal kit (not arrived yet). It does look claustrophobic but I may use the Vango Adventure Tarp with it that I usually use with the Ark, and it is not very heavy to carry either, otherwise I could use the NESO beach shelter as porch or to cook beneath whichever one is lighter. It is useful also when I use the Ark I could use the Soul as an addition to store kit overnight like folding chairs, cushions etc ............

The special pegs for the porch so you don’t fricking bark your toes on them (or at least not as painfully) whenever you have the door open are about the only good idea I see in this tent. Not a fan of the tie down attachments of the fly to the poles, not a fan of sleeves, not a fan of fiberglass poles, not a fan of required inner-first. That said I’m sure it could be pitched a bit better than that (I think you pulled out the sides of the fly too much and that’s why the huge sag in the middle?), and also any tent I’d want to bother carrying around would be a bit more expensive.

I went out in this tent a few times last summer and camped one night in late october. It held up in 60 mph winds! (Just!, I did have to replace one tent pole section) crappy fibreglass things. Overall a warm if not cramped night sleep. However, I wouldn't recommend pitching it in wild weather. Cost me £30 on ebay and had some good fun using it! I will keep it but have upgraded for the spring already!

I have a vango soul 200, the 2-person version. I'd describe it more as a large 1-man tent as it gives enough for one normal-sized man and his stuff, or 2 smaller men/average sized women and no stuff. The porch fits no more than a pair of boots and the front part can be a bit of a pain to get set-up properly, so it's not sagging, especially on uneven ground. Once you get the knack of it, however, it is overall a really good tent. I use it a lot for wild camping up hills and in forests when I fancy a change from the hammock or there are no trees. For the money its really good value, but I'd go 200 over 100 for the extra space.

Good review Trev. Pitching looked to be a bit fiddly. We picked up a Vango Sigma 300 earlier this year for £64 (SummitsOnline.co.uk). Several garden camps so far and it's a beaut. The way the inner and outer connect is neater and easier than the Soul by the looks of it.

I have the 2 person version only difference is there are tension straps inside to helps you adjust it really helps. Lots and lots of pockets all along the inside. I replaced my pegs too and no clue what that weird one does got more than one, though. Either way, it looks class this one just needed more space as ya said ur backpack.

Yea, Philip - I had hoped that this little tent would be a good buy for the price, much like the Phoxx 2 which I thought was an impressive and sturdy little tent for the same price. I wouldn't have much faith in this tent in anything over a breath of wind.

My first tent was a Soul 300. Its not a bad fair weather tent but any kind of wind about 20 will flatten it. The poles are very week too unfortunately and the guide ropes at the front need to be pegged out wider than you have them mate thats why it looks a bit wrong and bent at the top.

I think the vango banshee 200 pro is much superior than this tent. And not much more weight. I would rather save up a bit more and go for the vango. You can cook in the vestibule. I have used a hiking pole with a a of para cord using a clove hitch and tensioning knot and pegged out to lift the porch up when it is raining. So I can look out. The fibre glass poles will snap which I found on my big vango tent . Comparison the banshee wins which I have tested in dartmoor near 2 bridges. Tested the naturehike cloud peak 2 in the rain with strong winds. Just the doors are a pain getting in and out. Which you open from the top and carefully keep the fly from the inner because the water from the fly makes the inner wet . But on winds because of the geo. design. I got mine from amazon for £169 which was the cheapest at the time. 2.2 Kg. Will test it in the winter close to the car and the vango banshee pro 300 as a back up in dartmoor near 2 bridges. I was in the wind and rain Thursday evening under a tarp with a fire underneath and the nail organisation came out. Then I redid the guy and pegs and put heavy rocks on each of the pegs and put extra cordage on the side straps around the tree. . The.tarp was like a sale. But once I sorted it the tarp was fine. Kept looking over to the cloud peak 2. Then checked the tent guy points. They were fine. Just the guy ropes needed adjusting but it withstood the winds. And it had no leakage. Condensation from the ground was an issue initially when I put the tent up. Which was in the inner fly but the inner didn't get wet. Only from the door from getting in and out but that is my errot5not the tent. Sorry about the long rant. I put the extra thing about the cloud peak 2 because I know you have been looking at it.
