Great job brother! I'm super intrigued, and really loving the sounds you got with this Mic! What's the power supply like? Is it designed to be just like the original AKG C24's power supply, like with the same Polar Pattern settings etc?
I don’t think the power supply design was particularly good on the originals, they’ve definitely improved it. 9 patterns available on both capsules, check out the Vanguard instagram as they just posted pictures of the finished power supply. They look amazing in brushed metal!
After checking out the GS thread I was intrigued. I love companies that go all in - no compromise. Sounds like it would be the perfect mic for your recordings. The band sounded fantastic and the piano as well. Wished they could do a C12 mic later on. Great video thanks!
Thanks Christian! I’ll keep you updated, I’m talking with Vanguard about doing a non C12. Not sure they’ll ever do a production run, but maybe a one off for me 🤑
@@MillSounds I think I would personally prefer a C12 to a 251. It seems to be a bit more laid back in the 3-4khz area where a 251 always seems to be a bit to bright (talking clones) The 10khz boost isn't really an issue, it's easier to attenuate that area then the crucial mids . Yeah, I mean I really never liked Stereo mics since they end up being half-stereo in how they sound. Maybe for certain instruments but in general I prefer two mics over one. Glad they improved the overall design. Sm69/C24 heads aren't great and will wear out sooner then later
@@jamescassidy4045 yeah, that would honestly make more sense. I never personally liked Stereomics. I'd take a pair any day of the week. I do appreciate their effort wanting to do a boutique high-end mic though!
An impressive mic with even more impressive musicians! Living in California for 97% of this life, I didn't know diddly-squat 'bout bluegrass, but if you're going to engineer it at this high quality - I'll keep listening. :) I almost never D/L others' sessions either, but you've managed to get me to this time. Scant info about this one yet...any rough idea what it may be selling for?
Edit: whoa, caught the sales link...these are nearly _an order of magnitude_ more expensive than their other production mics! It is 2 deluxe-featured tube mics in one, of course - but good God that's quite an (attempted) leap beyond their usual segment. I wish them all the good fortune in the world, it just won't be coming from me any time soon! lol
Ya, unfortunately I can’t afford one either. This is not part of their regular lineup, they’re only doing 10 of them as this was a bit of a passion project for Derek. The good news is that their V44 solid state microphone stereo microphone is still absolutely amazing, it sounds quite different than this one but held up great one the few things I tried it next to the V24 on. This mic was never intended to be a production microphone, it was just an attempt to do something that was extremely difficult to pull off.
Here’s my review of the V44, check it out if you want an affordable stereo option (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_JGrz4ocWBA.htmlsi=pA8qEhRK3aaf84QD).
