Lata ji was working to support her family. Didn't get time to riyaaz as vani jayram ji. Lata ji always wanted to be classical singer but she became a playback singer. Don't you compare two singers of different genres as such. Don't bring one down to uplift another. Both have their own fair share in indian music treasure.

Maa Saraswati is singing in her voice. What a magnificent and classic singing. Even if I will listen to this song millions time I will say once more, Vani Jairam. In my humble opinion, this live performance of Vani sounded even more soothing than her original version of film, Guddi...tooooo goood.
yes true, I disagree when people say Lata ji's voice is maa saraswati's voice, it's Vani ji !! She blocked Vani ji's way in bollywood. She herself admitted that there was a time when she wanted no singer better than her to exist in bollywood. She doesn't deserve all the respect that she got because if she wasn't so selfish others would have gotten chance too but to remain no. 1 in her prime time she threatened the music directors that if they'd contract with others she'd never work with them again, that's why there was a time when they only signed with Lata ji and her sister Asha ji.
We lost another gem today. Rest in peace . She had a very melodious voice. Very versatile singer...Unfortunately she did not get much work in Bollywood...But she got her credit in the South..She was much sought out playback singer in South till '90s... She was bestowed with Padma Bhushan award in January 2023. She rightly deserves this award.

Am from Chennai. As a few rightly observed here no comparisons with Lataji. She is a great singer. Carnatic singers learn sing Meera and Hindi Bhajans for more than 60 years. Though due to politics denied Hindi we love Hindi songs. Vani ji can render even Shastriya Sangeet concert too though she never actually.
