Vanilla Ice recounted his 1991 arrest for pulling a gun on a homeless man who tried to sell him a necklace in a Los Angeles parking lot. The rapper explained he felt threatened when the man began aggressively hitting his car window. Unaware of California's stringent gun laws, he grabbed his bodyguard's firearm from the backseat for protection. The standoff led to a chaotic police response with Vanilla Ice facing serious charges. Dramatically, the SWAT team surrounded his vehicle, leading to a tense confrontation where Vanilla Ice was struck and detained. The rapper was represented celebrity lawyer Robert Shapiro, who notably later represented O.J. Simpson. Shapiro successfully defended Vanilla Ice, securing his release. Just to clarify, you do not have to be ex law enforcement to get a CCW permit in California. They might be speaking about their experiences in specific counties and cities that restrict CCW permits in CA. But this is not true for all counties and cities in CA.
