This was one of those games where it was worthwhile to download a save to unlock everything. Also needs a stick or some real skill with the analog. Game totally opens up after that and is so good. Music is underrated too.
I prefer the PS1 version, but I've played both thoroughly and have done 100% multiple times. Vanishing Point is a phenomenal game regardless of platform, but the 60fps and visuals of cast is especially stunning; One of the better looking games. You have to tap the stick in increments, don't hold it in a direction (Cars auto correct themselves). Hand break often, slow down before turns if novice. You will unlock tuning options as you progress through tournament tiers after a certain number of vehicles, if you need it; You can also unlock more multiplayer tracks and some bonus stuff too. The whole game is a skill check, most will not be able to complete it.
Personally I love that about it. One of the few racing games I've ever complete was Gran Turismo 2. I played it to hell and back. So I appreciate this game so much
This game is fun. Very odd selection of vehicles which I love. Very few games let you drive a 1994 Ford Taurus. A note on your pressure sensitive controls comment: most of the driving games on Dreamcast had pressure sensitive controls. Most of the first party titles in general had them. That's part of the reason many people consider the Steam ports of Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure so bad. They didn't take the time to make sure analog support stayed in those games. Luckily there's mods to fix that in both of those.
Thank you for that info! When I played most of the games I've always just hit the edges of the analog uhhh crater or whatever it is. I've seen Sonic walk once in sonic adventure and even he looked awkward LOL
@@GentlemenOfGames i have rage screamed because i have lost a race at last minute, lol. i want to 100% it one day. i already have completed all tournaments, unblocking every car and secondary vehicle, i have completed cwg rally, single race and time trial, but there are a few tracks in stunt driver i don't have 100 points on. idk what else is left to play/achieve/unlock to 'platinum' this game.
@@GentlemenOfGamesthank you, i just did it lol. don't wanna play VP until i have to record a longplay for my future channel. too much rage quit and butt clenching. i'm too young to have high blood pressure. 🤭😂
This game is freaking impossible to complete. I did it once, and have no deside to ever play it again. What a missed opportunity to create stunning racing game.
@@RyonMugen I didn't. I actually completed the game, but playcontrol was so wacky that pressure of winning was insane. Some games are hard & fair, like PS2 racing game SHOX. But Vanishing Point, every time i played it i wished it would control like RRV. (Edit. -There was nothing wrong with the tracks themself. For example, later on there was rally circuit with stunning waterfalls, track on country side, and very Ridge Racer ish -track on daytime course with nice uphill -driving. But, try before buy. Like TGR on N64, Vanishing Point certainly is not for everyone.)
Lol, that's interesting... So you just discover what an analog stick is suposed to do, and no comment about the triggers, yes they have long travel just for fun, not for progressive use at all..... 😛
When I was a teenager, I went for it for PSX looking for a substitute for GT2 after completing. Not a bad game but in comprarison it was a bit dissappointing.
@@volkte37 I use an upscaler for my PlayStation and the VGA for Dreamcast and honestly, that pixelated look of Saturn and PlayStation games has really grown on me over the years. I do love the Dreamcast's crispy sharp visuals, but I'll always have a soft spot for the 5th gen systems visuals too.
@@RyonMugen you're right, it is really hard to get rid of some games and this game was one of them for me even if I don't have the console. Actually I do have PlayStation version of it, not even an original since it is really hard to get original games where I live In those days. Keep up the great work, nice video bro
Classic Game Room gave it a bad review some years ago but I actually liked this game. Didn't get it back in 2001 but got a copy back in 2019 when my Dreamcast was still working. I need another Dreamcast!
I dont remember Mark's review of this game. But either way if it looks like it plays good I gotta try it. Is there any game you'd like to see me showcase?
