Fry bread is typically at least the ones I’ve had homemade is more of a donut consistency but still holds its shape I prefer mine little sweet my stepmom would add honey to the batter these look delicious as well love the crunch more of a tostada
Arizona native here. You made Indian fry crisps haha usually the bread is more doughy and pliable hence “bread.” But regardless your food always looks delicious and this meal looked yummy. Excited for your upcoming videos
He made his version of BUÑUELOS!!!🎉 I was poor we used a tortilla instead of the traditional dough. Then fry it, topped with cinnamon sugar. The American me would put syrup on top of that. 🤣🤷🏻♀️
My bro, love your videos! You take people on a fun journey around the country and I appreciate the van cooking vibes as well as the amazing views. May I offer two thoughts? First, reusable bags! Bring your own bags! Avoid using plastic bags! I know you reuse them for trash but still... Second, when browning meat, avoid breaking it up at first, instead push it down so that more surface area touches the pan, and leave it alone for a few minutes to achieve maximum browning! Break it up once you have flipped it. Appreciate you.
I just want to say thanks for so much info. My wife and I started following you. We are so inspired to do some traveling in the US , since we are in our 60s van life would be hard , but a small rv would work . Thanks again for the inspiration. We will keep following you. Peace
Ryan, it was EXCITING to see you try a Native American dish. We usually call them “Indian Tacos”. If I could recommend anything, I’d say you need a little more baking powder and use lard/vegetable oil at a HIGH temperature. It would be REALLY cool to have you come out to an Apache coming of age ceremony (Sunrise Dance) to experience all the food and culture. I would be willing to invite you to an upcoming ceremony since you are such an appreciator of food, so let me know! We invite camping! I recommend going through San Carlos, AZ on your next adventure. Always enjoy your videos!! Have a happy new year 🎉
Sup Ryan… been watching your channel for over a year now. I’m a full blood Navajo (Diné) & from around you stayed at. It’s crazy to see how close you are from me but was a lil excited to see my area. FYI… you dont really need a i’m permitted to stay on the reservation, just ask the locals & maybe trade it out to some native delicates.
I can’t say I’ve ever had a crunchy fry bread , but super cool you tried making them! 😁 If you ever make them again, don’t cook them as long and they’ll be similar to a tortilla in that they’re pliable! Awesome video!
That was the first thing I noticed, he totally overcooked them. They're supposed to be soft so they can be folded to eat. They're supposed to be pillowy-soft breads.
And it’s layered. I’ve never had it with the beans, onions and meat together. Hell of a try though. I haven’t had it in fry bread in over 30 years and there’s no way I would attempt to make one. Go Ryan!
In a lot of places close to where you are, you can get some amazing truly authentic Navajo tacos. You should try one soon and compare to yours. I’m curious how different they’d be
I remember going to the Puyallup fair when I was a kid and they had a treat they called Elephant Ears...it was a larger version of the dessert you made with the shells, butter, sugar and cinnamon. They were so good!
Fischer Scones are what I remember from the Puyallup Fair! I moved to the Midwest and was so excited to get scones when I went to the Indiana State Fair. They had no clue what I was talking about!😢
My mom had lamb navajo tacos in NM when we drove the Enchanted Circle. She said it was delicious. We have some travel experiences in common regarding NM and Sedona, AZ. Wonderful area to tour.
Awesome nod to the great Dine (Navajo) Nation Ryan! Love the inclusion. Totally agree that the topping is basically a salad and could be a little “more” in the flavor dept. I’m an Indigenous from Canada and I asked my sister - who’s an amazing frybread maker. She mentioned that it should be a little stickier, as opposed to a pizza dough texture. She also mentioned that it shouldn’t be kneaded as much - the final product should be golden brown, but also soft and nicely fluffy. This is just the version we enjoy, it may be crispy down south. Love the content man! Happy Holidays!
I own a 40 acre off grid property just 10 miles from where you were camping. Just north of St. John’s. The weather is perfect up there right now a little chilly at night.
@ryantwomeyy suggest you get a silpat or other silicone type baking sheet mat to put on top of your stove between the iron grates and the glass top to keep it from rattling and then it won’t matter if your burner is super hot or cold, because the silicone is used in baking and is resistant to high temperatures❤️
Love your videos!!! You give me so much inspiration for my van life travels. I'm currently doing van life in the city but you make me want to hurry and get out on the road again. Thanks for your amazing content!
Yes as a Diné,the best tasting fry bread are made from blue bird flour and cooked in Morrell snowcap lard haha. If you get a chance stop in Gallup New Mexico and check out the flea market for some Navajo cuisine. 👌🏽
Bummer you are three weeks early for rhe Lake Havasu hot air balloon festival. It starts on the 18th. I have been to the Albuquerque, NM hot air balloon festival. That was really amazing.
Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 Ryan n Happy Safe New Year 🎉🎉. Yes do some traveling around the great lakes but in the summertime. Mucho Love from your friend in Michigan Tam ❤️ ♥️ 💕
As a Navajo from an hour outta gallup.. you did a good job.. not quite authentic.. fry bread came out lil too crispy... but A+ for effort honestly.. when u come back out to Gallup you should go by the flea market on a Saturday and try a roast mutton sandwich🤌❣️
❤️ Hope you have had a lovely Christmas Ryan 🎄😃. Thanks for the video. That meal looked quite delicious and sounded so crispy 😋. Happy New Year to you and yours 🤗🥳✨️🍾🥂✨️❤️
Frybread was a little more on the crunchy side, so don’t cook it as long but you have the idea. Next time, try the frybread w hamburger patties.. which is a Navajo burger. 👍🏼
Also, I've gone threw 2 sets of the same tires you have, on a dif vehicle but they're great tires for what you need. I completely believe you made it out of there with no trouble.
Need to get a convection top oven so you don't have to deal with the rubber mat and the glass topper. And they make permanent mounts for starlinks for the top of your van that basically lays it flat with little to know loss of signal.
i know this is a old vid but i work all summer away from home and stay in a camper 6 months out of the year but once it starts getting cold i refrain from using my heater too but sleeping on a heated blanket is an ultimate hack imo
RYAN! with the amount of walmart shopping you do and seeing that little sauce bottle... i STRONGLY suggest "Melindas" ive had everything except any of the habanero/ghost pepper angry b-hole sauces and they are ON POINT!
I often have a few plates before I get to washing my dishes, don't like doing it right after I eat. People who complain about that in your videos have never lived alone. I hope you'll see snow some time soon
maybe a silicon trivet instead of drawer liner to keep your stove top from rattling? silicon melts at a way higher temp than your stove can probably get to so you'd be able to throw it on there immediately.
