Since I retired back in 2020 you challenged me to take up cooking. Now I do all the cooking at home and on the rode in our RV. Thanks for all the recipes and tips/tricks!
Isn't it fun? I changed jobs and finally got some relief from work stress, and my wife and I have been having a blast cooking at home. There is SO MUCH amazing food you can make for basically what you were spending on easy-make frozen/prepared stuff anyway. This video inspired me to go find some Mongolian beef recipes! I think we'll try that this weekend. Yesterday we made the most incredible cheesecake I have ever tasted. I've also had a good time making protein-packed flatbread pizza and I'm going to start that back up, I think.
On the topic of cooking, our weird parasocial relationship helps me when i cook. Almost like having a friend in the kitchen working with me. Its my favorite part about the van videos honestly, beautiful sights and good food seem like an amazing combo for peace.
I just made a Florida loop in my "new to me" 1988 G20 van. Drove like a champ! Getting ready to build her out solid for long term van life. Nice vids and good luck to all..
Rapala's are awesome lures for trout. Dragonfly larve, which you can find under rocks or limbs in the water, using a bobber. Or just night crawlers. Good luck! Oil on the noodles does work if you stir the noodles.
wood is naturally antibacterial also, if you put oil on your pasta, it will block the absorption of any sauces you try to flavor it with. Just run a little water over them if they sit and get stuck together. it will loosen them right up. Best to keep some water they were cooked in for that, but any water will do. Happy cooking!
You can cut meat on a wooden board, they say it's better to reserve one board just for meat, but I've cut meat on all my boards, as well as veggies etc, and I just clean them up well in hot water and vinegar. I understand that wood has enzymes in it that actually help with keeping a board relatively germ free.
The dose makes the poison, so while it may be true that wood can absorb bacteria, if you're extra conscientious about it you can be very safe. Folks have been doing it for thousands of years.
nothing beats a super high wind(30-40mph) being inside a forest, and next to waves at the same time, the sound of all the different types of trees in the wind/rain with the waves washing up from ottawa river in a 1 mile wide section of the river, in my tent with my wife about 5 feet from a drop off where the waves were just reaching the top of - best sleep experience i ever had in my life was at driftwood provincial park, hands down- wife says the same
Wood cutting boards are bacterially sound if you oil them every once a month or so, it's when they get cracked or fibrous from expanding from water then contracting when dry to cause bacterial issues
I grew up in Southern California and my folks owned multiple RVs/campers/trailers/fishing boat. I absolutely fished and camped at Lake Isabella in my younger days. Thanks for bringing up good memories, Ryan!!!
Yo, those tumbleweeds were wild! 😂 Dodging them like a champ was a trip. And thanks for shouting out the Mongolian beef stir-fry, that was 🔥! Got me hungry again. Keep dropping those awesome vids, man!
using a fat on the pasta will prevent any sauce you use from being adsorbed and adhering to the pasta, but you are 100% on why you don't use wood for cutting meat.
Never knew of this. Definitely going to try it. I’ve heard of putting oil on the noodles after cooking to prevent sticking but I was raised just to rinse with cold water after straining.
@@JDomesticTravel no oil or rinse. the proper way to make it is to strain the pasta then put the pasta into a pot with sauce and cook it low. the pasta will adsorb the sauce and prevent sticking together. not a lot of sauce, just enough to coat the pasta.
Try this stuff called "Golden Mountain Sauce". It changed my world. You can literally eat it with plain white rice, and it is so delicious. It's LIKE soy sauce but not.
That No my Boy part killed me XD Also Man you might wanna look into some magnetic Screens for the inside of your sliding door that way you dont have to worry about the bugs so much.
Love watching you cook I made a mouse shaped wood cutting board when I was in Jr High. I still use it every day for all meats, fish, produce, (vegetables and fruit), cheese, etc. And I am almost 70 years old.
I went on a camping trip with some buddies last summer who have a van like yours, think there was 3 vans total (live in ones) and one van that was basically a glorified supply carrier, and I’ve never felt more free than that summer trip, it was super relaxing, while in the uk we don’t have as many spots as the US I would still recommend people give it a try, it was so freeing.
lol, in Bakersfield and we watched same Starlink take off from Vandenberg and spied ISS overhead immediately after! Lake Isabella is brutal in the wind; camped there several times when heading to Vegas or Grand Canyon from NorCal. Better bet would have been to head a little further up and camp along the Kern; great campsites, trout, scenery, and more protection from the wind. Usually very few people ... bonus!
I like the cooking element of your videos. Watching you cook definitely encouraged me to be more adventurous and experiment with new recipes. As far as the cutting board goes I have read that you can use white vinegar to disinfect it. Just try to towel off the blood from the meat before putting it on the board so the blood doesn't soak into it.
Trout is super easy to catch. You should just slow troll a wedding ring lure or even the simplest method of using a worm and a bobber or maggots. Doesn't get much easier than that!! You can always look up fishing reports for each lake and usually see what other people are having success using. Good luck and keep on learning!!
Ryan, you can definitely freeform savory cooking! BAKING requires specific measurements because it is chemistry. Do you and whatever “measurements” you want when cooking!
Mongolian beef looks delicious will have to try it. Here’s a really easy recipe for a quick meal season pork chops and brown in olive oil. Add a can of mushroom soup with half a can mixed milk and water. I also add some canned or fresh chopped mushrooms. Simmer until pork chops are tender and cooked through. Serve with rice. Makes a tasty gravy.
Hey, Ryan! I was wondering if you were still coming out with your breakfast seasoning blend. I had not heard anything, and I believe I left my email address for when it would launch. I really wanted to try it. Love your channel and can't wait for more. ~MidDay Renae (the old rockin' radio host in Grand Island NE).
Hi Ryan, I already really enjoyed cooking and did a lot of it, but I take inspiration from some of your recipes and decide to try them at home or even adapt them. The Pad Kra Pow was definitely the best one by far! Keep up the amazing videos!
I laughed so hard at this video. The onion literally noped out of there 😂😂😂😂. I love your videos, you're my fav vanlifer. I wish you only the best and safe travels! 😁
Great video Ryan! When you cook bacon in bulk try cutting strips into thirds so they easily fill into all empty spots in the pan and are more manageable. I like how you don’t measure as you know your own taste and just roll with it. You got skills bro👍
Oh how exciting! I named my daughter after that lake, we were there yesterday and she loves your channel. She calls you “the cooking show” lol too bad we missed you, i would have loved to get a sticker So cool to see you in our area ❤
Perks of vlogging you have evidence of the machine eating your card. Just to add hence the edit, after watching Steve Wallis vids, maybe ya should invest in a thermacell? Might be worth the investment as your on the road all the time and summers coming up.
Damn dog you are right in my fishing grounds outta Bakersfield. Next time you go in that area head up to the upper Kern right at the Tulare line and then over to the Johnson Dale bridge and in through there. All kinds of trout. Native and plant on the river. McNallys for dinner.
In the water before start cooking noodles add oil and noodles want be sticky...that's how we cooking in Europe...enjoy your videos and food preparation.stay well and good health from Serbia 🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🫡💪👋👍
Hey Ryan, im thinking if you'd love to add more to your asian style cooking you can try looking for some Sesame Oil! it adds alot of nuttiness and aroma to your food!
I lived in Kernersville, which is just a few miles from Isabella, which is a cool little town. Spent a lot of time fishing Isabella, the day can start out so calm and then comes the wind, it can be a hard lake to fish on.
Growing up in the 70s,my mother taught my brother and me how to cook, luck got married ,she could not cook, great videos ,older guy here, still love your channel.👍👍

❤ Thanks Ryan. I enjoyed this video very much, 😉 as usual. Always been a bit too worried to use too much seasoning, so I loved when you said: " I just don't care enough" and just pour in a lot of this and that 😅, and still, your food obviously always taste so good 😃. I always get so hungry and wish I could taste what you're cooking 😋. Yeah I'm still here Ryan, I just love your content too much, your positivity, your smile and your cooking 😜. Wonder when Noelle is joining you again 🤔. Hugs from Skagen in little Denmark 😃🤗❤❤
Want to cook a lot of bacon, use a baking sheet and bake in the oven for about 20 minutes @ 350 degrees. Save that bacon grease in a little container (Frig it). It will be good to cook with later (hamburgers, gravies, veggies, etc....)
When you cooking pasta, you put the water in there. You put the kosher salt in there. Then you put your virgin olive oil in there. Your vegetables, When you cook in vegetables, you never want to put the garlic first. Put the oil in there. Let the heat up, then put the vegetables in there that you cut up. Then you put the garlic in here. Then you season your vegetables. Whatever's left on the bottom, all the PAN. Put some more Virgin Olive oil in there. And then you cook the meat and everything. The reason Why chef say?Never use a wooden cutting board cross contaminate. And the reason why you don't use a plastic one. It's because bacteria turn phone on that board, if you don't clean your proper. And the reason why I know cause I am a chef certify.
