Hey Ryan, I am not sure that AC is exhausting as well as you think. If you created a more airtight seal between the exhaust tube and ceiling fan, I think you would notice the air conditioning a lot more in the van! AC units put a lot of heat out of those tubes and the non-perfect exhaust set up may be contributing to raising the temperature of your van!
@skylerakers1989
@skylerakers1989 8 месяцев назад
Yeah at first there was like a 2 inch gap that isnt doing much venting i think if he sealed it it would be significantly better
@Smumpism
@Smumpism 8 месяцев назад
Insulating the exhaust tube helps a lot as well
@disguiseddv8ant486
@disguiseddv8ant486 8 месяцев назад
His black van isn't properly insulated to being with. If you all never been inside of a cargo van in the summer it's like you're in a oven. In the winter it's like you're in a freezer. And as you all stated his A/C exhaust tube isn't insulated nor that it's sealed at the above vent. Then his windows in the cabin area aren't covered. He's parked on the black asphalt in the open with his van absorbing all of the sun rays.
@mikea2458
@mikea2458 8 месяцев назад
The actual issue is that the hot side intake is not connected to the outside. This means that the air it is exhausting is being replaced by hot air from outside. Even if you sealed it properly, it would still come in through the doors and other random cracks. He needs to hook up the intake of the hot side to pull air in from outside as well. That way, the air used to cool the hot side will be taken from and returned to the outside. If he did that, that thing would be more than enough to cool the van.
@Blztrls
@Blztrls 7 месяцев назад
@@mikea2458while having both hoses hooked up would help, I don’t think that small AC is powerful enough for that van. I have a Sprinter Van with 8000BTU AC properly sealed & vented and it barely keeps the van comfortably cool with outside temps over 90 at night. His AC is probably 4000BTU, and would not cool down the whole van with those outside temps.

thank you for sharing your van life, looks great! I like the decoration in your van, your kitchen, and your outdoor lifestyle, looks convenient. Mark 2 AC also looks compact and portable, hopes it can bring you a cooler space.

@Charles53412 9 месяцев назад
Ryan when you are driving and have the air conditioner running, open up the curtain and close the front air vent, then turn on the rear vent fan to blow out. This will create a vacuum thus cooling off the whole van. After some time of driving close that rear vent. You'll be surprised at how cool it will get while you continue to drive. Not sure why your min air isn't putting out like it should Not sure the BTU's but maybe an upgrade is an answer. It should cool the whole van. See you down the road !
@AmericanAdventuresInJapan
@AmericanAdventuresInJapan 9 месяцев назад
I’ll add that if it gets too hot, just run the best AC you have, the one installed by the factory. If running diesel, it will only use around 500 ml of fuel per hour. So, around 1 gallon of gas for roughly 6-7 hours of idle.
@justinkase1360
@justinkase1360 8 месяцев назад
It seems he runs tge fans a lot, moving air out that's already somewhat cooled. The AC will never catch up if you are constantly doing that. Obviously tgat pulls in outside 100 degree plus air.

Do magnet curtains to block off your bed area at night then place the air intake and output inside the curtain area. Boom you will have a cool sleeping compartment.

I love your video's Ryan, inspired me to plan for a van life phase later in my life, after watching your last video it looks like you came through my neck of the woods. I live in Eugene OR. Please keep it up, I have been confined to one location my whole life and it has been a real treat to see the world through your eyes, I hope I can get out there myself one day. On a side note salt lowers the freezing temperature of water and causes the ice to melt creating very cold water to bring the temperature of the ice cream below freezing very quickly.

Ryan, in your future builds or on your van if you plan to keep road tripping in the heat I recommend the roof mounted to dometic . It’s pretty thin. You could probably still get away with stealth camping.

The silver sunshades for windshields would do the trick , attach them by push studs on roof while camping overnight , reflects the heat while parked as that morning sun can be brutal ..unbutton them before driving .. even if ya forget em they are only $10 to replace , should do the trick and keep Van a LOT cooler , done this before and made van a lot cooler in Australia 😁😁

Did a road trip from Vancouver Island all the way down the west coast through Washington Oregon and California and turned around at San Diego with the GF for 2 weeks camping out of the back of my pickup truck under the canopy. Cannot believe how tedious it was to find overnight parking in California. We really had no plan so whenever we were tired we'd look to stay somewhere, was very annoying trying to find somewhere to say in the populated cities like you mentioned. Washington/Oregon was easy AF but RIP Cali.
@DigitalJesuit
@DigitalJesuit 2 месяца назад
Pro Tip: You can buy insulated ducting to connect the exhaust to the outside vent. That reduces the amount of heat that exchanges off that ducting back into the van. Also, if you can suspend the unit off the roof (inside) you can greatly reduce the length of the exhaust duct, which will further reduce that exchange while also reducing the flow resistance. I used the same unit for a summer and those two steps GREATLY improved my cooling efficiency.

Hello my friend. Thanks for your honest evaluation on the Zero Breeze. I've been holding off on buying one for inside my van and you have answered my questions. As far as your overhead lights, a fairly cheap easy fix would be to replace your on-off switch with a dimmer style switch. Happy travels!

We have a van and although it has a 12v A/C that we can run off batteries it can keep the van cool if we start the A/C after we have been driving. Try this, get your van as cool as you can with the dash A/C, then when you get where you are going, start your portable A/C, let both run for a few minutes, then stop your van, put your window covers up, and see if that helps you out some. This has worked pretty good here in Texas so it should work well for you in California.

Hey Ryan Probably one of the first time I'm saying something here, I hope you'll understand what i'm writing with my broke english haha You really should use a second tube for the intake of your AC The way you're setting it is doing a negative pressure that suck the outside warm air in your camper It could be more efficient :) Also the new wave 2 seem to work really good in vans Thanks from france :D

Similar to sugar, salt affects how water freezes and effectively lowers the freezing/melting point of water. Creating a saltwater slush and packing this around our ice cream base allows us to cool the base enough so that it starts to thicken and freeze before the ice melts completely.

you are remarkably adaptable in those high California temperatures, esp in regard to getting most out of the micro a/c, eating cold salads. i would be tempted to stay at a motel til conditions got cooler but that’s expensive. having to drive for hours to find better conditions is waste of resources & tiring. parking in large shade-less car park i find depressing - may as we’ll be home. my experience of surviving driving long distances in hot dry Australian summer conditions >100F have been to 1) keep driving with windows partly down for draft or windows fully closed (if air con) 2) find quiet shady bush spot away from highway to doze, opening all windows & doors to get breeze 3) look for next local swimming pool or even a roadside creek to cool off, often easier said than done 4) stopover early say 4pm at (pref) air con motel.
