Vanlife Italy Is A Washout & We’re Miserable

At the beginning of this week we’re in high spirits on our epic European road trip as we prepare to head into the Dolomites and feast our eyes on some incredible Italian scenery.
However our plans fall apart as the weather takes a nosedive and with no end in sight for the rain and wind warnings we have to completely abandon our plans. The Dolomites were the whole reason that we came this way so we are super disappointed, and the non-stop rain only worsens our mood.
But we do manage to salvage some of our time in Italy with a super enjoyable day in one of the country’s most famous destinations, the floating city of Venice.
From here we’re heading into Slovenia - hopefully with better weather.

I havnt checked in on youtube in a while but omg your daughter has grown so much since i last saw!! She is absolutely adorable and a perfect balance of the two of you.

Hello Sarah, James and Ady. I've held off on posting, your channel was recommended to me by a colleague who has recently completed a European van tour. I've been researching and planning a self build myself and been watching loads of stuff on youtube. When your channel was recommended, I went back to the start of the your videos and binge watched over the last week or so! I absolutely love what you've done and provided so much inspiration for what I plan on doing. I totally admire your dedication to your build! Keep up the videos, your content is brilliant - I think the best way to describe it is that it's "real" - if that makes sense! Was wondering what the lines in the cab of the van were for, never thought it would be drying lines…you really have it nailed don’t you, what a great idea….another fab video…pizza looks amazing…..I just love your channel, I’m sharing it everywhere to get you more subscribers xx

Ady is too cute. Loved Venice, we only had a day but saw loads. Laundry, yep, love the fresh smell and empty basket😅. Take care and hope the weather improves x

Venice is definitely somewhere that a day leaves you wanting more but in a good way. Reason to go back! Yeah the fresh smell of laundry is great 😊 unfortunately this storm doesn’t seem to be letting up! ❤️

In the US we use wool balls in dryer to help the tumble rhe clothes. Tennis balls is weird to me because they have rubber in them.

Never heard of using wool balls either! It seems as though putting balls in the dryer is pretty common though from what everyone is telling us.

i have a North Face puffer jacket and when it’s washed i tumble dry it with a couple of tennis balls, it puffs it up like new!😊

We’ve never heard of this trick before! We’ll have to try it with our puffers, they’re flat as pancakes at the minute 😅

I've had to dig out the waterproofs this week. I love it when James does his best Victor Meldrew impression lol. Personally, I don't mind doing my laundry besides it helps keep the van smelling fresh while I use the shower as a drying room. Italy looks stunning.

Yeah we’ve heard you’ve got weather warnings all week there too, think it’s almost Europe wide. Victor Meldrew 🤣🤣 Your laundry setup is pretty convenient to be fair, quick q though, do your sheets fit in your machine?

@@TheWholeWorldorNothing The only thing it struggles with is my quilt cover but it's King size and brushed cotton so slightly thicker than most. I just carry a spare and then wash them when I'm near family or friends. All sheets and towels etc it does very easily. I think you'd find it really useful with Ady and cost effective too over a period of time.

@AMGMANIAC88 that’s pretty impressive. We did consider getting one after watching your video but our main reason for not getting one was space really, we’ve got so much stuff now 😅 Might be an investment in the future though

Hari Om Making the most of it and being spontaneous about destination is absolute travel, in my book. That deluge seems to have stretched over the entirety of Europe (and I include these separated isles in that!)... It’s been really liberating not having a plan. We’re going places on a whim which has been so exciting and we’ve already ended up in some really unexpected locations so we’re loving it. It does seem to be a massive storm, we’ve found it impossible to escape this way, hopefully it eases here and there soon. Hope you’re well xx

So sad that you missed the Dolomites- we were there this summer for a week! (And it was definitely 20 degrees colder than the rest of Italy.). Safe travels!

We are too! Literally the whole reason we came to Italy. Guess we’ll just have to go back 😀 Although 20 degrees colder doesn’t sound ideal 😆😅

I think the tennis balls are supposed to be a “thing” here in the US!? As far as eliminating static 👎🏼…doesn’t work for me! For fluffing items like a previous follower mentioned?…yes! Otherwise…they just make a thumping noise as the dryer drum rotates!

Yeah they are definitely loud 😅 Not sure we’d want to use tennis balls if it was our house for that reason!

Hi Guy's! My girlfriend and I have quit our jobs and are traveling Europe in our home build sprinter next year! The one big issue we have is that although she is a Greek national, I have been unable to find any way of staying in Europe for 8 consecutive months other than visa's for each country past the initial 90 days. Our plan because of this is to dip in and out (90/180 rule) back to the UK and the Balkans. I'm very sorry if you mentioned this in a video, I was wondering how you guy's manage this issue? We'd love to have more freedom than this solution offers us. Thanks!

Amazing! That’s really exciting. We have exactly the same problem and haven’t found a way around it. We’ve either been back to the Uk or out of the Schengen zone and managed it that way but it’s definitely a real pain. Sorry we can’t be of more help!

@@ASiX4 yeah no worries. We were made aware by someone recently that apparently you can travel on your partner’s EU passport but we’re not sure if you need to be married or if common law counts. May be worth looking into though

@@TheWholeWorldorNothing We did find something along these lines early on which gave us a false sense of security for the trip. I think this rule is limited to 3 months and was applicable to those from countries other than those with a travel agreement like that of the UK 90/18-0 rule. europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/entry-exit/non-eu-family/index_en.htm
