Many here seem to think this was a demo that Vanessa did herself. It wasn't. This was just the first version of it on an album that was scrapped. Still professionally recorded by a record company. Then another producer took over...
Do you know which producer worked on this? Apparently Peter Zizzo previously worked with Vanessa Carlton, but this demo was produced while she was already at Interscope/A&M.
@@mattiti8523 did you ever find out? i wanna know too, i think it was the same producer for all the other songs on "rinse" and i love the sound and feel all of them have. i prefer all of the demos from "rinse" over the final versions from "be not nobody"
I'm shocked how fully formed this was as a demo. But Ron really realized how to put the final touches on it to make it a classic without ruining the inherint greatness that Vanessa created.
No wonder she was bullheaded And stubborn about the original. This is great! I hope the producer didn’t get a huge kick back because she had the sounds there. He’s just added a little extra. She totally deserves full credit with a few tweaks from the producer.
id give most of the credit to vanessa. the piano lick, her voice and the lyrics . I love the most. And she just happened to be really cute. Better looking than spears for example
@@imalwaysright i actually thought about this for a bit and it’s not exactly that the final version had too much polish for me, it’s more so the way that it was polished and how certain sounds were used in this version were more unique and interesting than the final. like, it was nice having a professional drummer on the final version absolutely go crazy the entire time but i prefer how the drums build up over time in this version. i also like how this version isn’t ENTIRELY focused on the piano like the final version. there’s lots of things like that about this demo that makes me like it more honestly
You can have creative freedom early and be poor. Or you can earn creative freedom after years of success. This demo is great, and given what we already know… it could have been a hit on its own. But the first hit is rare. Gotta work with the big guys to get the first win. She was too stubborn and self-absorbed to enjoy the success. I hope she keeps writing and we hear more from her again.
from what i could tell Vanessa & the people she was working with at A&M got nearly done making "Rinse" (the album) but right near the end the people at A&M felt like something about the production wasnt good enough, they were considering dropping Vanessa & the album all together so in a last ditch effort the album was shown to people higher up like ron fair. from there the original recordings from "Rinse" were scrapped & the album was turned into "Be Not Nobody". all the tracks leaked from "Rinse" are very nearly finalized versions before they were going to get minor touchups & then get mixed and mastered

Idc what anyone says this is wayyyyyyyyyy better than the other version because it is more spunky and chopped up(that bass!). Sounds like an amateur made it but has originality in it too. I would play this song over any garbage they play nowadays
