I love your shoe battles! I'm intrigued by the V3 now that you have said they're softer, yet obviously allowing you to run efficiently. Thanks Tim!

Just feel a bit softer to me although perhaps noticed it a bit more at slower warm up pace than faster race pace.

This is exactly the video I've been waiting for👍 Now I must definitely grab a pair of Vaporfly 3. I hope the best for you🤞 That your injury doesn't keep you out for too long😱 I myself have just come back from a running injury. So know how hard it is when you can't run😞
@TimGrose
@TimGrose Год назад
Yeah I now think the v3 is worth a look. Hamstring largely prevented me doing a proper today but hopefully won’t be out too long as known them far worse. Funny as never had a hamstring pull before I turned 40 but now it is an injury I get every year or two.
@SteveSpeirs

Good info, Tim. I'm looking forward to checking out the V3 pretty soon. Take care of the hamstring!! That's typically my weakness when I start doing shorter races/faster training.
@TimGrose
@TimGrose Год назад
Not even able to run since but hopefully just a temporary set back. Yeah hamstrings were never an issue for me since turned 40 but must have pulled one about every other year since. Not as if I was “sprinting” here but had noticed it was a bit tender when did 400s last Saturday and then I had the 5K race on the Tuesday. So I guess was stressing it more than marathon pace work all winter.

Tim, I hope your hamstring improves quickly and you can resume your regular training once again. Good to see Nike have improved on the Vaporfly. I have the original and the 2nd version and like them both so will be trying version 3 (when discounted ... probably next year hopefully.) Thanks for the review Tim.

Yeah thanks wasn’t good yesterday so may need a few days off. Certainly worth trying v3 sometime.

Very interesting comments Tim. I didn't like v2 anywhere near as much as v1 - I also had heel slippage, and I found them less bouncy. Didn't get anywhere near as quick as I ever ran in my v1's either. Sounds like the v3 feels more like the v1 so will try to convince the management I need some new expensive shoes!

Yeah once I had sorted my lockdown issues, v3 is promising for sure. That I am still struggling with my hamstring from this video is another matter!

Still haven't tried the VaporFly line, completely in love with the AFV1 and the Tempo Next%, I figured the VF line is probably just a bit too much for me to get the most out of. Take it easy, no sense pushing it and having to take a long stint off injured!

No cone but it was a U turn at the end of an unmade road so sort of a rural pseudo cone :) Well done for spotting Sue at the end! There was very little parking spaces in Stockbridge so thought would do my Shoeoff somewhere bit quieter.

. Interesting !. I have all 3 pairs and I still prefer the version 1 over both version 2 and 3
@TimGrose
@TimGrose Год назад
Yeah I did think that as well but after my decent 5K race in the v3 the other day and hopefully sorting out my lockdown then am warming to them. What not so sure about is how the v3 will feel in longer runs and I have raced 3 marathons in the v1 which all went relatively well. Nice to have a different option going forward though as my v1s won’t last forever even though all 7 of them have life left in them.

In hindsight should not have started that last rep as can’t now run but hopefully only a temporary setback. You know how it is when going well don’t want to stop and assumed the car behind can’t have been far from his door as you would go down that road in a car through that ford as rather deep. When he touted horn more, I gave him the customary “wave” and more moved into the middle. Sure enough he (one presumes !!!) turns off at the last house before the ford. How much of a hurry can you be in the sort of middle of nowhere. Pity did not have the camera on it in a way.
@tworunningbrooms
@tworunningbrooms Год назад
@@TimGrose yes we have a closed trail bridge near us which necessitates crossing a very busy A road. There is a temporary speed restriction in place to bring 60mph down to 40. Few drivers observe it. I take pleasure in having the Insta 360 to hand and holding it up as if I'm some sort of amateur traffic patrol. In fact we're in Dorset over Easter and there seem to be amateur community speed gun patrols in every village.

@@tworunningbrooms Ah just back from a family day out at East Stour on the Dorset/Somerset border. Took in a bit of old railway exploring at Henstridge - fully kitted out for running but decided to walk or rather could only walk. Didn't you have a hamstring issue? Are things OK now? Not sure quite sure how I did it as it wasn't a sudden pull or anything but it had been a little sore before this session but did not trouble me in the 5K race on Tuesday. Oh well not the first hamstring issue have had and probably won't be the last.

I think the slightly softer feel helped to take a bit off but still actually go reasonably well. I stopped when it became a little drag back up and started then to feel needed to engage the hamstring much more. Was a good test as if nothing else told me I need to try and get my v2 tighter and with one pair still fresh in a box going to be a training option for sure.

I've never tried any of the Vaporflys preferring the Brooks Hyperion Elite 2. However, I've found with any shoes trying alternative lacing techniques is worthwhile if they feel too loose or tight. Interesting comparisons you've made 😊
@TimGrose
@TimGrose Год назад
Unfortunately Brooks only do the Hyperion Elite 2 (and 3) up to a UK 12 when I am really a 13. I tried the 12 out of curiosity but it was too short although can't say it felt amazing even so. What attracted you to that other the now myriad of "super" shoes?
@NERunner
@NERunner Год назад
@@TimGrose Any time I run further that 10k I seem to get blisters. I settled on Brooks' shoes most of the time due to lots of problems with blisters with many other brands. For some reason I got fewer with most Brooks shoes I've tried. Despite not needing extra supportive shoes I've found they do help, although I now buy standard shoes and add in Enertor insoles which give that extra support - I think it reduces foot movement inside the shoes. I chose Brooks Hyperion Elite 2s when they first came out because they offered similar performance improvements to the other makes (having solved the issues with the first iteration). I may try the others brands too, but you know what it's like - if something works...

Looking for forward to more runs in the v3. First impressions for me very good. Like you the main downside is that there’s loads of height in the front of the shoe. I have fairly narrow feet and limited to how much I can tighten with a Stryd pod attached.
@TimGrose
@TimGrose Год назад
Yeah definitely getting better with each run (well dodgy hamstring aside). I am not now sure that I could get a Stryd on and the bulge at the top of the eyelets would probably prevent the air port working properly. That said I haven’t been using much of late anyway. Never really found it essential to my running.

Just watched Gill and Nick’s assessment in the Run Testers - they are very enthusiastic about the v3 and concur with you. Finally Nike have actually produced a better version. By the way, not sure you mentioned it, but were the v2 the firmest of all of them?
@TimGrose
@TimGrose Год назад
I actually forgot to say! Think that there wasn’t much in it between this v1 and v2. What I also thought (and with the v3) that v1 sort of feels softer than v2 just because of the far better lockdown I have in the v1. It was a bit like in the v3. Once got it wrapping my midfoot like a glove it felt softer as then my foot and shoe felt far better connected. Hope that makes some sense.
@josephgonzalez_
@josephgonzalez_ Год назад
@@TimGrose yeah it does make sense. As you say, you probably need another go but adjusting the lacing on the v2. But from my own experience I’m convinced the v2 is the firmest. I prefer softer and bouncy, but I know many don’t.

I do have that OG 4% one and the Flyknit one but they only did them to a UK 12 not the 13 that is really my TTS. As such I think I would find my 4% too short these days. The OG 4% was a game changer though and was more of a surprise running in them for first time than the Vaporfly NEXT% 1.

Hi Tim, nice video! Could you give some information? I saw a guy selling a Vaporfly Next % for about 95 usd*, it's a shoe bought in 2021 but it's brand new (he ran less than 10 miles). Since you have some old Vaporflys, do you think it can still perform well? Or will it fall apart on my first run? (*)I live in Brazil and the Vaporfly 3 is selling for about 380 usd, but I don't have this money to give in a single shoes.

I have to disagree, I feel that V1 and V3 are similar in softness with V1 being slightly more bouncier and propulsive The V3 is slightly more stable and comfortable however it doesn't top V1 of we're talking pure performance
@TimGrose
@TimGrose Год назад
Not a lot in it for sure. How are you defining "pure performance" though? Even though I did my fastest 5K for 2 years in the v3 the other day I have run faster in the v1 although not very often and was very likely just fitter (and indeed younger then). This test didn't tell me much there due to the hamstring issues but even backing off in the v3, I felt it rolled along nicely. I think there is also the thing that not all v1 shoes seem to be quite the same. I have 7 and I felt that this pink v1 pair I used here aren't the softest of the bunch. I think we all need to run and race more in the v3 before deciding. I do note Ben Felton (Ben is Running) did a big 5K PB in the v3 though. Again how much is it the shoes and how better getting better as a runner.
