In this video I am using Vara HF Winlink. See how it is set up for using with the ICOM 7610. Works very well with many radio models.
VARA is faster than ARDOP. To get the full benefit of VARA you will need to purchase the upgrade. I have not done that because the free version works FB. I'll go over the installation, settings and use below. It is fully integrated into Winlink Express.

The paid version is very fast and I found very reliable. I used it while camping with my ICOM 7300 and a mobile antenna. 73!

Thank you for making this very informative video for us new VARA HF users. I have used Winlink in the past with my Winmor modem but what I am unclear as to which WINLINK Gateway stations can receive the VARA transmission. Is the protocol the same for all modes with just the speed and efficiency differing or does the gateway station have to be listening using a VARA HF modem. Thanks. Mike WB6I

Question, after you did the TX test and set ALC you went to the screen with the four meters. When I go to the four meter screen all I get is some activity on the VU & CPU. The other meters and the graph above have never done anything. What is wrong? I am trying to get this to work but have no one to work with that has knowledge.

The one question I have and I haven't found the answer for yet (perhaps I haven't looked hard enough), is if I upgrade to the paid version for VARA HF, does that registration also cover VARA FM?

Great video! Been looking for someone to help explain this and you did it !. My radio setup is Stevens SEA 235. Anyone know the easiest/cheapest way to connect to my laptop? Audio and mic 3.5 jacks maybe?

I am using a Yeasu FTdx 3000 and it does not appear in the "Select Radio Model" list. What setting should I use?

That’s a good question and thanks for visiting my RU-vid channel. I hope all is well where you are. I have to use a different radio other than the ICOM 7610. So I use the Icom 7600. It works. I think I would just go down the list and see which one works.

Hope you are still monitoring this... You show where to adjust TX Level,, But where do you adjust the Input RX Level

Hi Dave, good to hear from you and great question. I adjust my transmit and receive labels the same way as I do when I’m operating digital modes. You can do it internally in the radio or you can do it through the windows software. In your Windows Sound settings go to either the Playback or the Recording tab, select the USB Audio CODEC and adjust the levels from there. I hope to do more on this later. Best 73!

@@HamRadioAdventures Hi Rich... Thanks... Sorry I should have said "Where do you adjust the Input RX Level to" On WSJT-X they say adjust audio INPUT to get about 30 ~ 40 on the little meter. On the VARA Meter panel where should you adjust audio to..?? Hope this makes sense..??

@@4X4-RADIO Right, for the receive to get 30-40, In the Windows sound settings, lower the level on the Recording tab.Right click on the speaker icon in the lower right and left click on Sounds. You'll see the Recording tab.This may help you: www.k0pir.us/icom-7300-receiver-settings/
