And yeah using em as chaos lord on daemonic steeds is a perfectly valid option given that they're all chaos lords in the fluff and they're all on daemonic steeds.

You said the bases are bigger on the Varanguard vs the Chaos Knights but everything I found says they're the same? I am looking to proxy some Chaos Knights I already own, obviously LOS might be an issue but can always just add a few inches if it comes up.

Yes sorry about this, must have left this out while editing. Their bases are the same size. However they are not chaos knights, they are a different unit. If you want to proxy them then its up to your opponent whether they will accept this. I wouldn’t. Much like I wouldn’t accept space marines proxying for Primaris.

Warhammers should be small if they're weapons and not tools. An actual _war_ hammer is, as its name indicates, designed as a weapon; it has to be nimble enough to fight with against an active opponent. Not a cumbersome post maul for driving immobile fence posts into the ground.

But you’re talking about the legitimacy of a weapon’s measurements on a chaos energy fuelled knight riding a daemonic mount in a fictional fantasy universe. Don’t worry I also do this all the time in doctor who and sci-fi haha.

You can’t really use them for 40K so I’d like to keep with my AoS comparisons (with the exception of the 3 original comparisons)
