Please read entire description...Operation of VVT utilized by Suzuki circa 2010. (Other manufactures also use this technique.) Points of clarification: The OCV is High side switched with a fixed ground. Duty cycle controlled via the ECM @ a freq. of approx. 240 Hz. And yes, I do realize I am a good 10+ years late to this party.

Thank you for the video! I'm literally a Suzuki certified mechanic, and have an Ignis with M13A VVT engine, but never getting into that deep in the VVT system working, because i didn't have to. Suzuki engines (especially the M serie) is freakin reliable, and durable.

I agree, they are so underrated. I bought an 04 Ignis of my sister as a cheap run around, hated it at first, but love it now. Two door also, more room than larger cars. What country are you from?

funny enough i was talking to someone earlier today and they said you can just use a switch in the gas pedal to control when the vvt comes on, thats why i started to look more into these and found this video

This system was actually first used from 2001 in the M13AA, M15, M16, M18. Great engines, thought I prefer without VVT for my purposes. These Suzuki M engines are so underrated. I have been designing a helicopter for some time and with a lot of study into what powerplant to use, the M13A non VVT is the best option. Modifications of course, but from a design perspective it is better than everything out there even certified aircraft engines all things considered. I don't think they ever got much aftermarket support as they aren't really in any sports cars, at least RWD cars.

Agreed. I guess because Suzuki's barely go wrong. There isn't an awful lot of information like this on the internet. Big thanks for this video posted.

Are Renault's VVT, Suzuki's VVT, and Toyota's VVT-i related to one another? I mean, was the technology first invented by one of them and then licensed to the others?

There isn’t a short answer to this question. Variable valve timing goes back to the steam engine. Check out Wikipedia for the full skinny. Thx for watching. 🍻

Though this was a few years ago...I am looking into a Suzuki J20B for my Sidekick. (2010-2014 J20B into a '94) Your explanation of Suzuki's VVT is great! Simple-ish! I get is so far, but need more info. What are the ECU outputs that affect the oil controllers duty cycle? RPM, TPS and oil temp come to mind..along with your aforementioned cam and crank positions. Secondly, is this system using crank oil or is it independent, taking it own bath and path? The reason for asking is that my Sidekick is an OBD I ECU/analog ignition POS. I will be using the ECU that comes with the new power plant, but gauge displays will be an issue. I am thinking about using a Haltech ECU and standalone gauge cluster, if needed. Great work on this!

Does this engine have EGR valve? I think EGR is not needed with VVT.
@TheGibby3340

No Sir, no EGR as far as I am aware. As you said with VVT it’s not required. Thx for watching 👍

hi are the vvt solenoids run a pulse width modulation or just as on or off? cheers
@TheGibby3340
@TheGibby3340 Год назад
PWM (duty cycle) controlled. Which as you likely know is just on and off with a bit of fancy timing 😀 The valve(s) are spool type not pintle. So linear movements are realized through PWM varying average applied voltage. 🍻

@@TheGibby3340 great thanks I’m running a k14b engine in a jet boat was going to run a after market ecu can you get away with just Turing the vvt on at 3000rpm and just leaving it on rather that pulsing it?
@TheGibby3340
@TheGibby3340 Год назад
Honest answer is I am uncertain. Speculative answer is yeah probably. Application to straight B+ will result in max advance or retard depending if the system is setup for + or - Duty Cycle. Of course the beauty of VVT is optimized valve timing for RPM Vs. Load/Torque demand.

Hey bud id love to get your advice On my missus suzuki swift r415 m15a 2010 year model Just changed the head gasket and now the car doesnt start and the bottom crankshaft pulley is not turning or spinning So the engine is seized and locked up On the assembly of the intake cam housing it says to not dissasemble the housing on it But my mate took the 3 bolts off as your describing at the start of the video by accident instead of the middle bolt Can this effect the car starting as well Or ruin it at all/ the timing just by dismantling it? It didnt fully come off, the middle bolt Was still intact onto the shaft so when he removed the 3 housing bolts it just slightly turned Not sure what else can cause the engine to lock when we did everything correctly like timing and etc We did leave it for 2 weeks before reworking on it Not sure if rust started to build where pistons were or anything else
@TheGibby3340
@TheGibby3340 Год назад
Hydro locked? Coolant contaminated oil destroyed bottom end bearings? Starter, accessory or clutch/gear box loading crank? Valve train issue locked up? Cylinder wall/ring rust as you say. Especially if coolant made it into cylinders. Isolate crank and work from there. 🍀

Hello, good work. Please tell me do you have any information about setting variator on car after reinstallation? Do I need any special tools? As I saw on your film I think that without oil supply variator is in his rest position. Maybe do you have some manual how to set it?

Hello to everybody.I m looking desperately for some help.I swap a swift sport engine with engine code m16a in my grand vitara 1,6 which had the same engine code.The problem is that now i have engine light on with code p0011.I have changed everything which related to this code like oil control valve intake cam variable sprocket camshaft and crankshaft sensor and i did timing in chain again.I saw oil passes and everthing is clean and looks ok and nevertheless the engine light turns on.If anyone has an idea what is going on i will appreciate it a lot
@TheGibby3340
@TheGibby3340 Год назад
Is it possible you have swapped in a engine/head with different valve or ignition timing/configuration. I think the trigger wheels are different between waste spark and COP designs. That same trigger wheel if different may wreak havoc with VVT monitoring. Just a thought 🍻

The trigger wheel is in the intake camshaft and it is the same.Thank you for the repply

Is there a certain rpm where the vvt activates?
@TheGibby3340
@TheGibby3340 4 года назад
Hi thx for watching. I am not certain to be honest. The shop manual contains no reference graph. I believe actuation is more a function of RPM Vs. Load as opposed to strictly RPM. Cheers
@Tonyx.yt.
@Tonyx.yt. 2 года назад
on k12b i think is 3000 rpm, because at that exact rpm the engine noise change
