I think there's something more fundamental to the variance than simply "the absolute value is inconvenient to work with". I want to find a fuller explanation of that. I've been wondering about that since high school.
There is more to the variance itself but using absolute values to keep track of it is just inconvenient, that's all there is to that method of keeping track of variance.
They are 6, so both are the same. I still have some misunderstanding. why the mean and variance is expressed as this? Is it by definition? Can anyone give some explanation?
