I have been watching your videos from the start, and you have grown so wonderfully in this craft. Your plants respond to your care with just as much love as you show them. Keep up the amazing work Melissa, you are truly an inspiration
Thank you so much 🥹 that's so kind of you to say! I appreciate you for being here for this long 🫶 It's crazy to think back to those early days and I have learned so much. It makes me happy to be able to grow and care for them all ☺️
Hi Melissa! Question about your pon. Are you using fully rinsed pon so you can fertilize with your H2O? I know they sell both types of pon. One being the fertilized one that has the slow release. Love all your videos and have learned so much!! Thanks! ❤
Hi there! thank you 🥹🫶 This pon I rinsed myself but it does have the fertilizer in it. I fertilize right away now because I underfed a lot of them when I first started with pon. There's no way to know how much slow release granules are in a particular pot so I'd rather the plant get enough nutrients in the beginning. You can go in at half strength for a little bit if you're worried to overfeed ☺️
Hi Melissa, could you give recipe for your fertilizer mix with all you add to it and proportions, I have followed your lead with my alocasias started in stratum and then pon. You obviously know what you are doing 😊 looking at all your beautiful plants! Hoping to be quick enough to snag some more alocasias tomorrow at your drop.
@lovelylady_plantlover79 @suzetteaboud8014 Thank you! I'm going to make a pon video soon with all my tips/tricks and everything I have learned and I'll do a step process with my water too. 1 gallon jug of filtered water: I use 0.5 mL of silica (power si) - I let it sit for about 15 minutes Then I add Cal mag which is 5 mL I do about 5-7 drops of the stress coat Then I add my foliage pro fertilizer (production dose 1mL) I usually let all that sit for a little bit after giving a good shake then I check/adjust PH - I usually bring it down to a 6.5 It's a lot I know and it takes a little bit of work up front but I make about 6-7 gallons up at once and water then I usually have to make a second round to get to everyone. You definitely don't have to do this all and I'm sure the plants will be happy with just the fertilizer but I'm so happy with this routine now and the silica is definitely amazing stuff.
Melissa, thank you very much for your excellent videos... you have very beautiful plants... please what fertilizer do you recommend for foliage, indoor plants. My plants have very poor foliage. thank you
Melissa, please know how much I appreciate how much I have learned from you. My husband asked me just last night how I got so interested in plants the last 4-5 months. I already had a few plants but they had lost my interest. It was you showing up on my feed on IG. Absolutely fell in love with your pole plants and realized how much knowledge that you have. Keep up the great work.
🤦🏻♀️ I guess I have to be faster in checking out on your store. By the time I hit to pay, it gave me a notice saying that the items were no longer available.. 3rd time this has happened to me😢😅 Maybe it’s a sign.. 😂 😂 hahaha
I followed your lead with my 2 sick Alocasia and put them in stratum. After zero growth in the last 8 months ones already giving up a new leaf!! It’s shocked me how quickly they’re responding
My Florida green was getting really tall so I chopped it and put about 12 leafs on dirt several months ago and waiting to put half of them in a pot for a fuller plant and then share the rest. I love the Florida green. I just got 2 really small Florida ghost babies. Can’t wait wait to see them grow
Nice! I love filling out the pots to make them more full looking. Good luck with all your props! Florida ghost is a gorgeous plant, you will love them so much!
Hola!
Hi Melissa, I currently have 9 Alocasia with my 10th in the shipping process. 😆 I’m highly considering transferring into pon but I’m not sure how much to buy. If I buy the 5” self watering pots that you have, how big of a bag of pon would I need to get?
but cant we leave our plant in stratum like forever?? why do we need to transfer it when they look so happy and healthy in there already? i never use stratum before but i'm interested so i'm really curious.
haha it was for the best - sometimes I love restarting them especially with they are overgrown and I'll have little plants for the shop in the future! 🥰
Thank you soooo much for posting a video today, I had to put my 16 year old dog to sleep today and needed something to calm me down to stop the tears. From the bottom of my heart you don’t know just how much I needed this. Thank you
Please share the details of the gallon jug and your process with silica, fertilizer, and all the goodness 🙌🏼 Wanting to add this to my Alocasia’s and I don’t know where to start.
Hi Patricia! Our neighbors found an alligator on their front porch just a little bit ago so some excitement lol. But just finished this video and going to get my photos done for the sale this Friday! Thanks for watching 🫶
I love your repot videos! I'm about to repot my own BVP alocasia, and so nervous to touch it! I may have missed this, but do you use fertilizer/silica/nutrient solution after you repot it into stratum? Or just water, since stratum has nutrients (I think) already? Thanks for your tips! :D Love your work!
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼 I was a little anxious with mine but it honestly has done so well. You definitely got this 💪🏼. I usually add regular water unless it’s been in stratum for a really long time. Sometimes I do add my nutrients if it’s the only water I have made up when I’m watering that day 🙊 but that’s not often.
Hi Melissa, I love this video and learned a lot. I just have a question if you would be able to answer- do you always plant the alocasia s from stratum and then to pon? Is it possible to move alocasia from moss to pon? Or would you move it from moss to stratum first ? I absolutely love these plants. Thank you❤
I've moved mostly from stratum or water first then to pon. I've moved some anthurium over from moss and they did well. If the roots seem okay and they didn't get damaged too much from taking moss off they should do okay but you can definitely let them sit in stratum for a few weeks if you want to me more cautious with the transfer.
I love the canadian geese- I'm from Canada so we get to see them in mass groups all the time. Fun Fact: The reason there are so many adults and babies is because geese get together, merge their children and those kids go on to make a flock of their own🥰
I'm so happy for you that your arm is doing better again. I've been watching your videos since shortly abter you moved and I really like your collection and videos! Keep up the fantastic work, I'm happy to be a follower of yours for a long time to come.✨ 🌿Greetings from switzerland🌿
Thoroughly enjoyed the repots esp the Florida Beauty cos my Florida Ghost is growing crazily and like you now I will extend it with a plastic pole without moss since it doesn't need it yaaaaay. I've just done that with my monstera albo and it's so relieving not having to keep the moss pole moist since it is just for support 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Can't wait to see your sp silver size up with monster leaves 😻
Another educational and entertaining video. I have a lot of admiration for your work ethic, your careful decision making, teaching ability and I could go on; Plantologist Extraordinaire for sure. Thanks for what you do.
I'm having the same issue you described with an Alocasia Polly. Purchased from a big box store, gave it a little time to acclimate itself, then put it in water for 3-4 weeks. It grew water roots and I put it in Pon. It's actually two separate plants and it's putting on two new leaves, but losing two! Maybe she's a member of the "one in, one out" club. I'm really interested to see how yours does.
oh no! Polly can be finicky so definitely can see that. The low variegated one I got did well but I had it in stratum before pon. Not sure if that made a difference or not. My regular polly might have struggled a little at first too - I think it took awhile for it to actually start growing 🫠
yay! Thank you so much for being interested! I'm working on adding the plants to the site now - had to take a break lol. But I really like this batch - it's a good group!
I love the variegated Alocasia💖Philodendron Florida Beauty she is gorgeous💕my heart is full of happiness watching your videos. Keep it up Melissa! Love your videos🥰
I watched this 3x on our LR TV and twice on my laptop, in between today's tasks; does that increase view counts? Wish I could give it that many likes, Melissa. The two plants I purchased from your shop are doin' great. Each got a new leaf, and now each has an additional one on the way. My budget allows me to get 2 more 2morrow, if I can click thru fast enuff that is!
Aw you're so sweet for doing that! 🥹 I'm actually not sure how views work as far as watching again - I would think it counts as a view each time. I really appreciate it and I'm so excited for the sale tomorrow. I really like this batch going out this week ☺️
The Air Force flies around here all the time too. The sound doesn't even bother me. I've heard it my entire life 😅 we notice when we "don't" hear it. 😂 i think I have to repot my gloriosum. It is crawling out of its pot.
haha I don't think I'm used to it yet. My husband loves to watch them. His brother is retired Air Force and he's been to some air shows with him before but he will jump up and run to the window to see them lol. Good luck with your gloriosum repot! 🫶
I either use stratum or water first then move to pon. You definitely don't have to but just my preference. I don't have any calathea in pon but I have a couple maranta and they both were water transferred and they love pon!
Nope! No need to have a cabinet at all - just as long as they can get some light. My stratum can dry out quickly so depending on the environment I might have to water it more often. My cabinet is very warm so I'm usually watering them every 4-5 days.
@@plantsbymelissa thank you. I'm not new to plants, just new to stratum and pon. I tried starting cuttings from my thanksgiving cactus in stratum, but it didn't work for me. They died.
I remember you wanted to do 30 or 50 plants in pon, have you counted how many plants are now in pon? I have also seen wildfern grow one of her alocasia in soil mix in a self watering pot and the plant was doing lovely, would you ever try that?
I honestly am scared to go back to soil again for alocasia after all the fungal issues I had last spring 😭 but I'm always open to try things. I still have several more plants to move over to pon but I probably have close to 40 now. I have a couple more alocasia, philodendron and maybe another 1-2 anthurium. Pon has been so nice for me because my space is really warm especially in summer. Now that my collection is so big with all the shop props I care for - I tend to underwater more often now so it really saves me.
Melissa, I love your videos so much I’m not going anywhere I’m always gonna keep and watch you your videos bring me a piece on top of the peace. My implants are bringing. Love you.
