Great video. A couple of points: the original LifePod can no longer be opened with a fork (program button is disabled when the safe is locked), and the original LifePod now comes with a steel security cable. So the primary difference is really just size and the tray.

They (Vaultek) have resolved every issue that you wanted to be addressed, except for the carrying strap, which is still an upgrade. I like the fact that you can somewhat customize your order, keeping the entry-level system at a more affordable price. Nice review.

After going through tens of travel security safe options and reviews, I finally bought the Lifepod 2.0 Biometric option (the one you reviewed didn't have the biometric feature as you understandably had a gripe about it). Very study, stylish, functional, secure, near un-hackable. If you're in LE, and prone to regular air travel, this is your go-to EDC travel safe.

These are very well-built cases. Note that if you use it to store a handgun, thicker (wider) models such as a SIG P226 or P229 you won’t be able to use the tray.

@jalermaling8736
@jalermaling8736 Год назад
Very true, some handgun models quickly make you realize "Full Size" categorization is quite relative when storage and carrying demands come into play. In some EDC storage instances you'll have to discard the Lid Organizer, and any other extra foam, to accommodate extra mags, Lights, etc.

Great video and I agree with you about the turning the interior LED light off using a simple switch; however, in talking with some design engineers, most are instructed, "If you can do it with written code on a chip, we don't have to spend money on a switch, wiring, etc." Bottom line is money, even if it's for a 1/4 cent switch. And today's engineers' thought process is, "I want it to look cool and futuristic, so let's write more code for multiple functions." I constantly talk to design engineers on software logic, problems and their lack of understanding to user interface. I tell them "Quit trying to create the Star Ship Enterprise when we only need a 1974 Pinto!" I get stared at because they have no idea what a 1974 Pinto is!

Honestly I love their products . I like the smaller unit better , I lock it in my tire well when I must leave my gun in the car because I entered a gun free zone which there are quite a few in NYC , lol , quite a few . The one thing I would love to see from this company is a steel handle that can be pulled out from the top of the box so it can be carried easily , instead of having to place it into a knapsack . I do not like holding it in my hands and walking with it as someone can try to snatch it and run off , a steel handle that can come out of the top like a carry on suitcase would be awesome . Then I would use it for all my items as my everyday briefcase

Carry my full-size and all other EDC needs in the lifepod 2.0 then use the bag for my extra mags for body carry edc and have a small armor plate slipped in the back. Another good video and I am down to making a decision to one of these two travel safes. Are both TSA approved? It is my understanding that either box will allow you program from a 4 code to a eight code, right? In addition, the larger LifePod 2.0 will allow more cartridges and perhaps a box of ammunition that the smaller does not allow. Per the video, it seemed that both are quite lightweight and if you carry in a backpack I wonder if larger is just too big. However, I do like the interior light in the LifePod 2.0 when you open it up. Thanks.

@Jonathan906 3 года назад
My view on a hammer attack is to go for the hinges. The plastic looks weak there, and I do wonder whether a good whack with a hammer would crack open the hinges and allow the lid to opened from that side. Another concern is the thin cable, which I suspect can easily be cut using tin snips and possibly even household scissors. I remember years ago when my then employer bought cable locks for laptops, and I was able to snip the cables on them using the office scissors. So go figure. A length of heavy chain would be more resistant to an attack like that.
@perniciouspete4986
@perniciouspete4986 2 года назад
So the shelf is just a piece of plastic, right? When you open the safe to grab the pistol in an emergency, you have to move the shelf out of the way before you can get to the pistol, which would take two hands or one hand for two tasks. In other words, using the shelf would take twice the hands or twice the time to get to the pistol. Nope, no shelf for me.

Nice review... I have a bit of constructive criticism for you, please don't take it the wrong way... The RU-vidr you referred to as "a certain lock picking youtuber, who may or may not be a lawyer", is actually real lawyer indeed. His channel has over 4 million subscribers and the video you reference with the fork has over 2 million views. He ALWAYS respectfully refers to other RU-vidrs as "fellow RU-vidrs" and often collaborates with other channels/RU-vidrs exchanging content. Many companies directly send him devices for him to assess and evaluate so that the company can perfect those devices and/or to make better ones in the future. So the point is here you should refer to your fellow RU-vidrs as such and/or research their channel before making comments that are well, not too nice, specially when the host of the channel in question has SO much experience and knowledge... This comment was NOT endorsed and/or encouraged and certainly not written by the LockPickingLawyer... When it comes to information security (INFOSEC) - which includes asset management physical security, most places can accomplish 94% of INFOSEC goals and upgrades using only 15-23% of an Information Systems budget. The first thing to remember, locks are only there to keep an honest man honest. The same goes for asset retention cables, while it is always better to do a proper install, such as, putting the looped end through the grommet on a table or through some welded support brace (not just the leg) because a thief will simply take the secured item (Lockbox Pro, laptop, etc.) to the floor and lifts the table leg just enough to slide the cable out from being looped around the table leg, and there it is, your EDC kit is now the thief's or even worse, your firearm is in his/her hands. Circling back to the thesis for this comment, locks are there to keep honest men honest. This also means that if you don't have access to a grommet in the table or access to the table legs to use the welded metal supports, then it is time to do some acting. If people are around, ACT LIKE YOU ARE SECURING THE CABLE to something under the table that others are unable to see without significant effort. By always properly locking your equipment regulars around you will know that you aren't to be messed with. Using your fake security setup should help them to be on their best behavior but still keep an extra eye on it to ensure it doesn't grow legs and wall off. .

Any luck with the new slingbag review? I’m looking into using my lifepod1 but upgrade to the new bag for more room. Curious about the pockets and rear hidden pouch.

I’m looking at the special edition lifepod because it comes with the liners and longer and thicker cable. And sling bag. Thank you for doing this because I wanted to see the difference I wanted to see if an xd9 subcompact and xd9 full size can fit in the original lifepod. Can you make a video on how to do the cut out on the foam to fit your 🔫 or can you fit an xd9 sub and hellcat in the original lifepod as well.

Gr8 vid as usual. It seems like a gr8 product. But the fact that it's made out of plastic bothers me. If it were steel I'd buy it today. I don't see how this product is just as good as steel when it comes to someone looking to pry it open. A resourceful thief can get into anything but steel would slow him down more than plastic. 🇺🇸
@ChrispyThings
@ChrispyThings 2 года назад
Thanks! I should say that if it was made of steel it would really hurt it’s portability. I agree that it would be more difficult to open, but this is meant to sit in your car or take with you on a trip. Chances of running into a master thief with burglary tools are slim to none. Thanks for watching!

@@ChrispyThings I'm concerned about the plastic, too, and I don't think anyone would need burglary tools to crack open the safe. I suspect a good sized slot screwdriver might be enough.

BTW does it not come with the security cable and 9v battery? I think the first version or smaller version doesn't which I think is a disservice at least not for including the cable..

What is the micro usb for? If you put a rechargeable battery in it? & for 200 why is the carry handle a upgrade?
@ChrispyThings
@ChrispyThings Год назад
If the battery dies, you plug in the usb to get power to the safe to get in. It’s a back up to the key it comes with. And the handle is an upgrade, how is it not?

What happens if the battery runs out and something goes wrong with the usb charging point. Can it stay locked and opened or closed with a key

@@ChrispyThings @Chrispy Things didn't hear or see your answer. At 11:00 you showed a fail safety test with the battery out... and you using a working usb cable to charge the device for opening. But I was looking for what would happen if you didn't have a working usb and the battery was down. Would it remain locked and could you open it with a key or do you need the power on... especially if your turned off the key.
@ChrispyThings

There’s a key that ships with the safe if the battery fails and something goes wrong with the cable
@onlyagreeingsometimes
@onlyagreeingsometimes 2 года назад
@@ChrispyThings maybe I'm not clear. Let me say it another way. I get it comes with a key & USB cable. But if for some reason you lost the USB cable & the USB port was broken due to thefts trying to break into it. Plus let's say you also had turned on the key safety lock 🔐 so the key 🔑 doesn't open the device, which I understood can be done. "How will you then be able to get into the device with a key if the battery had ran out?" Will it say open by default or allow you to open it by key although you turned the key access off 🤔 try it.. Turn The Key Access Off, & run out of battery, then try & open it with just a key. No recharging with usb cable. 🔐🔓📎🪛🔨🧲🔑
