Vauxhall Vectra 2.2 petrol, limp mode and running rough . Fault finding and repair. 

Anyone who is doing this, make sure after you have filled the pump hold it upside down so the cam side is down and see if the oil leaks out. I bought new seals and fitted them to the pump but it didn't fix it, it wasn't until the 5th time taking it apart that I wondered why the oil inside the pump was black instead of atf red, turns out the seal was not sitting correctly and leaking into the head of the engine!

Really great to see the fuel pump being repaired, as a car mechanic myself we often don’t get the chance to repair a component like this it just gets replaced which I really hate when it could be repaired at a lot less cost, really enjoyed this one and if I ever get the chance to do this job now I know how 👍

Big Thanks LM Auto for this video saved me £650, just repaired this pump on a Zafira 2.2 cost of £50, took me about 3hours my biggest problem was removing spring from large dome membrane, had to shave a section out in order to pop it out, that was the hardest part, saved me drilling out the bearing to fill the pump.

Actually avoid these brown membranes. Original membrane has some material layered inside that rubber diaphragm, but those brown ones have not, and they hold for few months at most. I've found full rebuild kit with black rubber membranes and these actually were three layers with material inside. I've bought two "just in case" and it is working flawlessly for almost a year now. Also make sure that pressure regulator works! Good video.

Mate, thank you so much. I have a 2007 Holden (Vauxhall) Astra SRi and had this issue. The local garage was struggling to get a replacement locally (New Zealand) and I was getting estimates of nearly $4000 (NZ) for the repair. The whole car is barely worth much more! I got the kit from the UK for NZ $155 landed, and the labour was NZ $365 - that's a heck of a lot lower than the $4k I was looking at, so thank you so very very much. This is a great guide. I couldnt shift the ball bearing so i drilled and tapped the case to refill the pump after replacing the diaphragms, and it works perfectly. Let's hope it lasts! For note to others who are not confident carrying out this repair - I believe there is a company called Evolution Auto's in Sussex who will carry out this repair, and have also developed an alternative to the unreliable diaphragm pump.

To check for a leaking injector, turn off engine and observe rail pressure decay over time, it should not drop immediately and should decay slowly in X amount of time.. if frps is suspected, an external fp gauge should be used... i read that somewhere in Service Data Good job lewis Your show is Entertaining and informative

Thanks so much for the video. I managed to fix my hpfp today on my Zafira b. I filled it through the outer diaphragm because I got a replacement spring in my kit. I am a level 3 automotive student so this was a great learning experience for me. Hopefully this fix lasts a while.

That little pump is a marvel of engineering! I didn't realize that uses hydraulic pressure to act as a energy transfer, I guess I always assumed it was just a simple piston pump and the whole thing was bathed in gasoline.

Good video you are very talented, many people would just order a new pump £600-£700+ and pass the cost on to the customer and not even think about it being repairable.

Thanks alot for this video, i also had a fuel pump problem , it was the continental version, when opened i found nothing wrong or damaged only the oil level was low and mixed with seems to look like petrol. I replaced the diaghrapm to be sure, drilled a hole and filled with oil. My pump is now running like new the dessired fuel and feedback are constant the same. Many thanks:)

Good methodology the scope really gave you the insight into the pulsing of the valve. Your diagnostic tools are great but expensive to the ordinary DIYer. I'm looking at buying a scope but they are a lot, however, there are cheap ones out there the scope is a game changer. Must say thanks for taking apart the fuel pump good insight.

I did exchange this pump for renault pump from f5r engine. Works great. Important is to exchange for new pressure regulator device also. regards.

I had the same problem but a bit different. The car under acceleration would run for about 5 seconds then splutter and die, after about 5 mins of waiting it would spurt back to life only for 5mins later it would conk out again. I knew then it was the fuel pump (common fault apparently). I purchased brand new pump (approx. from anywhere else 500+ for less than 300 from euro car parts) bargain I would say. I replaced within 20 mins and its been perfect ever since. And still got original pump to fix (just in case). The old on when I looked at it, was the outer seal gasket was distorted and popping out in one place so hopefully the inside should be ok.

You can buy a 6 to 60 Volt DC, 30 amp PWM controller with LED display showing percentage of duty cycle for £9.29 on eBay. That's including the postage. I got mine from seller discover_future (no connection to me). Another tip; Get a magnet out of an old loudspeaker and tie 4ft. of string to it. Then you can drag over your driveway to find that ball bearing that disappeared. It works!

Thanks for exactly the video I needed today ! I shall try to repair my pump this time so I just ordered some diaphragms (from turkey). Last time it broke I chenged it for a new, but now price on new pumps has developed.. One thought i have on these pumps relative short service life is how close the are to the EGR valve. This must be a hot life. So I plan to put something reflective or insulating between pump and valve this time. I also think about mounting a small ventilated oil resarvoir on top of pump this gives a possibility to monitor the oil level. Please tell if you have opinion about this. And once again, THANKS !

I haved the same problem - membrans are gone ,but issue was hard start and no power at high rews.

I heard that the way the ECU in these 2.2 direct Opel works, in a situation in which the 1st oxygen sensor provides data that is off set or incorrect but still does not trigger an error, then the ECU ingores the 2nd oxygen sensor , and does dont power it or analyze its signal at all. This often can be seen in large ammounts of negative fuel trims, or fuel trims that are fixed and not altering at all. Meaning that injector fuel rates might be badly calculated if only using 1st oxygen sensor. Are you sure that both of your oxygen sensors are fully functioning? This ECU phenomena can also cause jerking of the engine, without any OBD codes,increased gasoline consumtpion, contamination of engine oil with fuel. Replacing of both oxygen sensors is the supposed remedy for this if the ECU does not analyze signal from both sensors.

Hi mate I have a Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 was in limp mode and a little misfire limp mode I unplugged the coil pack cut out now won’t start and no fuel pump sound I’m really stuck

question, can cam belt timing be tested fairly easily electronically than taking it apart and looking at the timing marks?

i have a question i do this same what you done on video one of mebrans was shot,i replace 3 mebrans put a oil and turned all together,but sill have a problem car dont have power and runing hard I have new controller of full presure Help

Hi I got problem with a zafirab which keep showing on diagnostic inletcamshaft dephaser bank1.change sensor solenoid valve.still the same change camshaft sensor. Same.now u start the car stall by itself reving 3 times stay on.when switch off start again no idle reving engine it's ok it can stay 30 min without stalling Yr opinion will much appreciated. Thx

the nut from the fuel rail is rusted and i cant remove it, i tried it with a perfect fitting wrench (later with extra hammer) and rust remover but its stuck like its welded, any ideas?

Hi.i just changed the pump it had the same problem but it still rung poor not 3000rpm but now 5000rpm max. I replaced the fuel rail sensor,mass air flow sensor,camshaft position sensor,the spark plugs,the relays,cleaned the injectors but it still runs poor and the sound of the engine it’s not the same. Car runs like it’s in limp mode and i dont know what to do next can you please help me?
