You sir, are a bloody legend! I just broke down with this problem at the side of a busy dual carriageway. While waiting for the tow truck I found your video, and now I'm home drinking a cold beer. I owe you a pint!!!

Super glad i found your video, This happened to me about 3 mile from home it was stuck in 1st, Thankfully managed to get it back home on the drive, Rung the mechanic who couldn't look at the van for nearly 2 weeks, have just been out to van and sorted it in about 1 minute thanks to your video, Spot on pal has saved me 2 weeks of lost work and money, Thanks again
Thank you so much for this video - saved us paying for roadside assistance and meant we could be on our way in no time after initially thinking it was a serious problem. Legend!
Mine came off last night in the dark, it was that cold I was glad to be putting my hands under the bonnet. 10 seconds and I'd located the problem and reconnected it. All thanks to you!
Great vid mate, thanks for posting. I was stranded, about to call a recovery lorry and, after watching your vid, two cable ties got me back on the road. Bought the matlock clip as others looked a bit fiddly with two pieces and not one. Once again, thanks for the vid mate.👍😎
aaanton11 it sure did. I get a lot of similar comments on one of my vids, 'how to ride with a broken clutch cable'. Always cool to help others out. Dave at learn2ride
Amazing. Sent on a detour by police into the backwoods of Sufflok and got stuck in 2nd gear. Exactly the same as the chap below. Waiting for recover truck and I found your video on You Tube and I fixed it. God Bless you mate.
Pulled off M1 yesterday limped to my daughters place stuck in 2nd gear with another 150 miles to go (van loaded with tools) had a quick coffee with daughter, googled this vid. Had my coffee walked back to van fixed linkage by popping it back on then away! Cheers mate appreciated.. would never have sussed it out as offending joint obscured by pipes.
Awesome video. This happened to my Renault Traffic after a long day at a hillclimb. About to book it into a garage, did a search, found your video first and fixed in 30 seconds! Going to order a Matlock clip tomorrow for my van and the Movano horsebox too!
I've just driven home along the back roads 30 miles stuck in 3rd gear, watched your video and 2 minutes later it's fixed. Thanks mate, I really appreciate your tips for sorting this problem!
Just wanted to say a massive thank you. First day back to work after Xmas and on the way home gearstick went dead and stayed stuck in 2nd gear. Managed to get home. Thought is was going to be an expensive repair, so Googled the problem. Watched your video and just sorted it out, was easier than I thought it was going to be. Will see how it goes but if it comes off again will order one of the gear linkage connectors. Really grateful for you to have taken the time and effort in posting this video.
You saved my bacon today buddy on the way to see clients , your video enabled me to go straight to the cable on top of the gearbox and I was back in business , just had to sit down tonight back at home and write a thank you message!!! Legend / lifesaver!!! Clever lad
Thank you for this! I managed to fix my van while on the long wait for the AA. So happy. Drove to my mechanic where we checked it together and drove home happy.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!! Dude !!! I just found your video after breaking down. And your instruction was spot on. All working again and just drove home. Massive respect and big thanks, and I learned something nee about my old van. 💪🏻🙏🏻👌🏻
What a legend! Happened to me earlier on the M4, thought the gearbox was gone. Quick Google search this video was the first to pop up, fixed in 2min. I owe you a beer 🍺
Another good man who is a mighty plus to humanity. Thank you very much for your short, concise and easy to apply instruction. May God bless you kind sir.
Thanks, my renault trafic gear stick went loose on the way to the vets with my kitten. Lucky I was near a local garage. Once I got home, I went on the web trawling to identify what was wrong. Found your video and it seemed to explain exactly what the issue was and how to fix it. Woke up this morning and I was going to get the garage to fix it, they were shut when I got there. I thought might as well phone the breakdown cover I have, but then I thought I should have a look myself. Point of note, I have zero mechanical skills but I recalled your video in my mind and the big surprise I sorted my van out in 2 minutes. I also ordered the part you mentioned. I love RU-vid and thanks for your help. Regards Baz
your amazing saved me being robbed from a garage 5 minutes of searching found your video and 30 seconds later van was fixed 👌 if your ever in grimsby ill buy you a few pints as a thanks 👍
Looking at the first few replies to your video I see there are plenty of us who thought we were in it deep, but you sir did us all a great service. I thank you so much. Ledge.
Life saver video I was stuck in the evening traffic in the central London driven in 4th gear in full traffic 9 miles with plenty of traffic signals this video solved my problem in the seconds 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 thank u so much
You are amazing, your video saved us in so complicated situation in the middle of nowhere! It's simply not enough to say thank you! You saved our trip, god bless you!
Thank you sooo much for uploading this video! Just broke down. Thinking that the gear box is knackered. But after this video i was driving in 5mins. Really appreciate it
Thank you very much! You saved our road trip from Finland To Latvia. I managed to temporarily fix the linkage with a zip tie because it does not attached anymore to the gearbox arm.
You legend!!!!! I was stressing balls after I got stuck in 1st! Drove all the way home from the beach with my boy still in his wetsuit from a surf. Woke up the next day trying figure out how to get the van to the mechanic when I googled the problem and a answer to prayer came in the form of this video!!! Thanks so much mate!!!!!!!!! How can I get a pint to you?!?
This happened to me today !! Thought I was going to have to phone a recovery truck but thought i would have a look on RU-vid and bingo ur vid was the first one. Popped it back in and off I went. Came back out a few times when I was driving but just kept popping in back in till I could get some zip ties.
Absolute legend. Happened to me earlier and you basically saved me so much hassle. You need to put your PayPal info at the end of this video cos I’d deffo be buying you a few beers .
Great video. You save me a trip to the garage, which I expected it to be an expensive one. I watch your video and it turned out I had the same problem. I was able to fix it mayself. So thank you for posting the Video .
Well done, you sir are a hero. Watched your video and was able to get my van home just by popping the cable back on. So no expensive recovery or 2 hour wait for the AA. So I took your recommendation on the Matlock system. Ordered thru their website Matlocksystems.com Part came the next day and took 60 seconds to fit. Saved me a fortune. Great quality and so easy to fit. Thanks again.
Thanks Very much for that ,I thought I was going to spend hundreds just as I’m going to scrap my Vivaro for Ulez Unfortunately but cheers for your explanation and advice
I knew this was my problem as well, thanks to the video I knew where to look. And seeing it happend today 3 times I’ll buy me one of those clip thingies.
It's worth mention the reason WHY this problem happens so frequently. Understanding the reason behind this happening, will help to keep it under control! This happens due to dirt, grime and general lack of lubrication. On the plethora of cables and levers exposed on the top of the gearbox, inside the engine bay! It's that simple! ;-) The mentioned reason produce a very stiff gear change. In some cases, the worse cases, to the point of gears being "stuck"! So the extra stress put into gear change will oblige the cable end(s) the pop out of the levers. The same dirt and grime over time will act like a grinding compound. And, worn out the cable end aggravating the case. Both conditions working together, will make it pop out of place more and more, each and every time! Best practice will tell you to keep the area, the cables and particularly the levers clean and well lubricated. And since the issue is already present (worn out). Just get the cable clip, from Ebay, Amazon, etc. MOST IMPORTANT. Keep the under tray cover IN PLACE. DO NOT remove it. Do NOT discard it. It's probably the most underrated, but vital piece, to keep the "health" of your engine bay components in tip top condition... It's absolutely ridiculous the amount of people who discard them as garbage! "Clueless morons" that can't add 2 and 2 together! And figure out, WHY "penny counter" manufacturers that will cut corners and save money, on every change they get. But instead give themselves the trouble and EXPENSE to put something in there... So some random user throw it away! Let that sink in for a moment! ;-) With all this said, it's worth realize this is a common problem in all gearboxes with similar configuration/cable setup. Ad-hoc, or quick solution: Spray some WD40 on those levers it will make gear change easier and smoother. After being worn out the cable ends only have 2 possible cures. A new cable or the much cheaper and simple clip! I know what my choice was... ;-)
Great helpful video mate just wondered if you could help, my problem is with the top joint which keeps popping off but unable to find a clip for this tried usual amazon ,Ebay, google etc no luck but noticed on you parts photo you show one of them any idea where I could source one , many thanks.
