As much as I love the look of my A5 Filofax Original the fact that it will just not lay flat is driving me bonkers. I want my work reference binder to be super functional and that means I can't be frustrated to use it and open it. So after some serious thought I decided to take the plunge and buy a VDS TM Alezan A5 Manager and I'm really excited to unbox this.
I decided to get RTS because the customizations I wanted weren't 'necessary' and the cost difference was just too great. A RTS A5 Manager with 154 Euro (~165 USD) where as the custom A5 Manager starts at 232 Euro (~$249 USD) for 35mm and 228 Euro (~$244 USD) for 25 mm. So before adding any add-on costs for extra poppers, thicker straps, etc. it's about $80 USD more expensive. Just not worth it for my reference binder.
As I mentioned, I left my reference binder at home so check back for a follow-up video where we will compare this to the Filofax and move it!

I have the exact same vds. I ordered it three years ago and it was more money than yours was. It’s great that they’re doing the ready to ship. The only thing extra I have is the flyleaf. I recently ordered a codex in touch me leather outside black inside lilac. It is absolutely divine, so beautiful! Love the color combo. no contrast stitching used black on the outside and lilac on the inside. Love VDS!

Yay for yours! What do you use it for? Yes so glad for the RTS because it gives an affordable option plus great if you aren’t sure what you need as far as layout goes and such. @@JustScribble sad to say it just sits around looking at me. I really haven’t used it. I don’t think I like rings, at least that size,they’re so big. It was very disappointing. It was my very first planner cover I bought , it was just too confusing for me getting all the different inserts etc.. I got my Wonderland 222 in A5 and I absolutely love it. Everything is done for you!

@@pbudinsky1 oh no! That stinks but I understand. These rings would be way too big and cumbersome for me for a planner. I can do a smaller rings (I think - testing currently) as a planner. But these are just too big even though I can use an A5 bound. But there’s lots of great ways you can use or setup the cover to use it and love it for an alternative purpose. You could create a reference binder for your home/hobbies. You could set it up for journaling. You could use it as a recipe binder for your favorite recipes. You could setup a home management binder with budget, cleaning routine etc. there’s some great pre-printed insert options that would make it easy to set it up and give it some love. So glad fig got your W222 and love it! I’m so excited for it.

Not yet! It’s on my list to buy next year but not set on what size I want and since they were pricier than the VDS rings (by a lot) I went with VDS that I knew I’d love. But hopefully next year!

@@ZolaneG well I was comparing ring planners and the RTS from VDS is cheaper than the ELG. The folios might be cheaper. Ali Brown has shared her ELG and she loves them. I’ll definitely get one at some point. Just deciding on the size.

I fold my strap behind it and it is trained quite well. Their price point is just great for the quality. I would prefer to get a few colors over just one custom. 35 mm rings are great. I would love to have it as my go to planner but printing the inserts never works out for me 😒. Hope you enjoy this for your reference binder. I don’t see a flip through on your playlist of your existing binder, am I missing something?

Good point about getting a few RTS vs one custom! What issue do you have printing? I print mine (almost all) but I do use presized paper so I don’t have to cut. Cutting annoys me 😝 It’s linked in the description box.

I’m wondering where you bought your moterm rings protector from. I did a quick check on Amazon and didn’t see them. Do I have to go to moterm directly. The van Der speck looks beautiful. But for me I might be satisfied with a moterm. I known it’s top grain and not full grain. So I haven’t decided yet. I’m still debating. Thanks

I bought it from their website directly but I think they are on AliExpress too. I don’t mind Moterm and have a few non-ring planners. But I don’t like their ring setup as much - it’s not as slim- bulkier, rings aren’t as nice and and I love the dual pen loop…and the price difference wasn’t enough savings for me. I knew I’d rather spend a little more for the design features and quality from VDS vs buy Moterm now and wish I’d bought VDS. In my A6 ring video I talked about the decision in a little more detail. But definitely nothing wrong with Moterm.

Hi. How does it fit dividers with side tab? I'm looking to order custom from them and I use cloth and paper and dividers with side tab. I was told I would need to widen the planner. I'm nervous to order and not sure how wide. I have not been able to find video for A5 set up talking about this measurement.

I’ll be sharing on the 2nd video coming in the next few days as I move my reference binder setup including tabs into it on that video. I don’t use Cloth & Paper because I won’t buy from them due to unethical business practices but their tabs shouldn’t be any different than the ones I have as far as dimensions so you’ll be able to see in the video how they fit to see if you like the way they lay.
