I don't have yet (today). But while researching, I've noticed that the manual says it won't charge a dead battery, so I've been looking for hacks. Your Idea seems to make the most sense. One guy added a 9 volt (in parallel) momentarily. I'll have to remember this one, as pushing a button makes the most sense.

Haven’t watched the video yet but I just bought one plugged it in and all it does is nothing!! No positive or negative on the terminals all that’s happening is the connector icons are flashing. Nothing else. Battery too dead?? The charger recognized reverse polarity. But I had to do it. It touched pos. And neg clamps to each other for a split second. No Spark at all. I’m thinking if it putting out current to charge it MUST spark when touched together. It doesn’t. Is that a safety feature?? Well let’s watch the video and see!!

Nope hack didn’t work. Bringing this back to Home Depot and just gonna buy a new battery
