Really good job of editing the full interview in order to favour your side of the argument more than that of the famers. Great transparency there Ed!!!
@Frenchblue8
@Frenchblue8 6 лет назад
Greg Weeks that's the thing about programmes, even these YT videos. They go through an editing process, for any number of a hundred purposes~ and if course, one of those purposes and/ or reasons could be to intentionally present a skewed reality, which, in the case of a debate certainly might involve editing to seem to enhance the relative " rightness', of one side, or present one side as more positive or appealing, more sensible or rational. But see, here's the problem with your comment~ even if one side HAD engaged in this sort of editing intention it wouldn't matter a whit. Ed, ie, Veganism, would still and always be the clear and unrivaled "winner" of any argument or debate against it. Because nobody yet has ever successfully debated against it, or any of it's principles. Ed could have had 3 heads and the opposer could have been Mother Theresa, Shirley Temple and James Bond combined..... and Veganism~ Ed~ would still have prevailed. Any perceived Manipulation~ via~ Editing perpetrated here to 'favor' Ed,or his "side" would be moot, and I have already discussed why. Because there in fact is no valid argument against Veganism.

Fair enough point, thanks for replying to someone who isn't a vegan and has strong feelings on one side. Thanks for taking the time to reply though, especially when I have had bad experiences with vegans as I'm sure you have had similarly poor experiences with meat eaters like myself. I made a mistake anyway, thank you.

Greg Weeks As a mere fellow/sister commenter here, I d just like to express my respect for your willingness to continue to reevaluate the video. It would also take a fair amount of something akin to courage to come on to the comment section of a well known, extremely well respected vegan activist and after questioning his integrity, and admitting to being a carnist, remain basically respectful. You are willing, it would appear, to also rethink your initial view. I am sorry, genuinely sorry, to hear that you have had negative experiences with vegans. I believe that pretty much every interaction we vegans have on the issue, should be looked upon as an opportunity to inform, to answer questions if asked any and to be only a positive and non-hypocritical example of a compassionate and caring person to ALL. And while there is never an excuse for aggression or rudeness, I do understand how some may, out if both frustration and concern for these beings who, were are trying in every way we are able, to spare and to protect and speak for... there are those of us who may not always represent Veganism the way it deserves. I make no excuses. But we are as imperfect as we always have been, however, I hope that the road forward leads us to ever increasing patience with those who have yet to 'get there', and that we learn the best lesson for now, at least~ which, imho, is to be constantly mindful that we must live our words in order for them to be truly heard. Ed does this so wonderfully well and I am not alone in a feeling of great gratitude that he,as well as his compatriots, are with us. .

Vegans often lose their cool because whenever we try to address our points politely, all we get in return is condescension, dismissal, mockery, and buckets of self-righteous cognitive dissonance. It can be hard to keep calm when the other side of the conversation is just "BACON!" and someone shoving a sausage in your face, thinking they somehow won. Because _that_ is surely the standard for "coherent argument that includes perfect reasoning with manners". :3:3:3 Almost as if meat-eaters who can justify unnecessary rape, torture, and murder of innocent living beings for their own taste pleasure are non-existent, so they resort to mocking and bullying the vegans until they inevitably lose their cool, at which point they can say that vegans are dumb and have no valid points. Do forgive us if we can't all be Ed as we're forced to listen to the same selfish, ignorant arguments over and over and over again. :3

To the farmer, I would ask, if "farms produce what the consumer wants", then why does the goverment have to so heavily subsidize the industry?
@HowFarmsWork
@HowFarmsWork 6 лет назад
Simple. To provide a steady food source for the world. Food prices are WILD and go up and down sporadically. By stabilizing the food prices, farmers stay in business, or else too many farms would go bankrupt and wouldn't be able to support the demand for food. One of the roles of government is to stabilize the agriculture industry to support the population. Without it, famine would be much more widespread.
@angelfiremimosa
@angelfiremimosa 6 лет назад
How Farms Work ..and yet with all the food we grow now we could end world hunger many times over. Govt should support farmers to transition to plant based, it's the future and more sustainable for our population. Plus clean meat (stem cell meat) is on its way and will wipe out these current practices, so why not encourage more people to get on board, it's a big industry set to boom
@HowFarmsWork
@HowFarmsWork 6 лет назад
I agree that the government should help to transition if, say, animal products were outlawed, but that won't happen in the next 2-3 lifetimes at minimum. Too many people eat animal products still and the vegan movement is marginal at best. Even vegetarians have an 84% relapse rate. There are still many unanswered economic problems that are run into when growing just foods for human consumption, such as where we would get the fertilizer to grow all those crops. Most people believe all the corn and soybean farms would go fallow, but the truth is there are so many animal products that would have to be replaced and there's no way farmers would just stop growing crops, so our demand for synthetic and mined fertilizer would increase many times over. Many crops grown for human consumption can't be grown consecutively in the same spot due to biotoxicity. The vegan movement is too far-fetched it's impossible economically.

Vegan For The Animals Ⓥ it's hard to argue with idiots that's why. The way Ed was describing a calf suckling his fingers, it's how calves explore their surroundings. They suck, lick, chew on anything throughout their lives actually not just calves. It shows Ed doesn't really know what he's talking about. Add to that the fact he let a calf which is at its most vulnerable stage of life suck his bacteria disease ridden fingers without knowing what he's at, hes carrying pathogens that the cows milk could have no way of providing immunity to onto that farm, if he lets 2 calves suck on the same hand he's contaminated the 2nd calf with the pathogens the first calf has. This is part of the reason it's best practice to keep calves separate. As i said earlier they lick suck and chew anything and if grouped together they will suck on eachother damaging navels nipples causing infection. They can also carry infection from their environment to their mother's nipples over sucking leading to damaged teats causing infection to the udder, under suckling so the end of the teat is leaking milk and open letting bacteria in causing infection in the udder. All reasons to separate calf from mother. But the main reason is because there is a high risk the mother will lie on the calf and suffocate it. There are hundreds of reasons farmers do what they do, very few activists take the time to research actual agricultural research to find out why.

meat Ismurder everything dies and with livestock farming we prevent mass deaths of the human population from drought and crop failure. Plus not all land is equally suitable to grow crops suitable for human consumption, most of the world's cattle are fed grass or hay as their primary feed.and even the ones fed corn are fed the entire corn plant which yields over twice as much feed as the grain alone which is the only part suitable for us, which we don't even digest as efficiently as a ruminant.
@jeffjefferson3364
@jeffjefferson3364 6 лет назад
meat Ismurder there is very little land suitable for growing food crops for humans. Where I'm at 90% of land is used for grass to feed livestock cause weather is unpredictable, crops are too expensive to safeguard against disease, and even then weather dependant you can lose your crops. Potatoes for example are a rarity here and are only grown in specific areas. Maize or corn doesn't grow cause it's too cold, grain crop yields vary drastically from year to year could be up or down 50% from one year to the next but I can grow grass to the same yield pretty much year on year

Rob McClendon , there's no medical condition that exists in which sufficient nutrients can not be obtained from plant based foods. Rob McClendon , you are 100% uninformed and wrong. Mic Drop!
@LouisGedo
@LouisGedo 6 лет назад
Rob McClendon , Sweetie, predictably, you are 100% wrong. 1) Your "primitive diet" argument is 100% fallacious as it's an appeal to tradition. 2) I like how you completely avoided my challenge of naming even a single necessary nutrient that can only be obtained from animal products 3) If you weren't just trying to find excuses for not changing and were in support of the moral principle of avoiding complicity in needless violence upon sentient individuals, then you'd have consulted a vegan nutritionist. What is the name of the vegan nutritionist that you've consulted with or plan to consult with very soon? 4) I know vegans who have IBS....having IBS doesn't mean that one can't be vegan. Living vegan is not a diet per se. Since it isn't, are you living vegan in every other way except your diet? How so exactly? If not, then your IBS pitch is just complete bullshit. 5) Since there's no biological requirement in the human body for animal products, any reasonable person can understand that when you have a choice and decide to eat animal products because you like it, that makes you complicit in needless violence (exploitation and killing) upon sentient individuals. Being complicit in avoidable needless violence upon sentient individuals is always morally irresponsible. The great news is that for the overwhelming majority of people in modern societies, it’s very easy to eat 100% plant based and go vegan. Have a nice day, Sweetie

That last statement from the farmer... Replace the word "farmers" with "drug dealers" or "hitmen." Statement: "Farmers are here to provide what the consumer wants." Is that really their justification for slaughtering animals? Really? Drug dealers and hitmen worldwide will be delighted, they now have a ready-made excuse in court. 🤦

@wolfpackpete6408
@wolfpackpete6408 4 года назад
@Rishee Sreenivasan there is a total amount of energy available in the body and it is distributed between the organs. Plants don't want to be eaten, they defend themselves with anti nutrients and other chemicals making them hard to digest. Meat is much easier to digest. So the human stomach is small relative to our body size because for hundreds of thousands of years we ate meat and didn't need a large appendix and cecum fermenting plant matter in bacteria (the human stomach doesn't digest plants). Because our stomachs are smaller and using less of our total energy, more energy is available for a larger brain.

I should let you know, yesterday I was shopping at Coles, and I saw this entire family, two tween girls, two young boys under age ten, a mother and two other women, shopping. At first, I noticed their shopping trolley had no dairy or meat products. Then I saw them all reading the back of food products and the mother was pointing things out to them on the product. Then I heard one of the young girls say, "But that's not vegan" and they put the product back on the shelf. I became strangely emotional by this. For some reason it hit me. A whole family (minus dad) shopping together, specifically teaching their children about vegan food, teaching them to read the labels and choosing all vegan foods. About ten minutes later, I see one of the boys run up to their mum in another aisle and shout, "Mum this one is vegan!" She looked at the back of the product, and put it in the basket. One generation positively educating the next generation. Your work IS paying off. And there is a change coming.

Good for you Ed. I've been a Vegan since last Monday. I watched Pig Truth last Sunday, and I could take no more. The sights and the screams from that film will haunt me forever. I looked at it all, dairy, eggs, the lot. It hurts animals, and it dehumanises humans. I can't remamber where the saying came from. I think it's along the lines of that you judge a society by how it treats its children. Children are vulnerable; so are farm animals. What is a human, if by all his/her strength, they act upon instincts that were necessary thousands of years ago, but call it 'civilised', when they clothe themselves in another sentient beings skin, drink the milk of their mothers, send them to the gas chamber and at the same time make music to dance to?

No idea how you feel about what I think; I'll say it though. The people in the slaughter house are no more or less responsible than me, when I paid for it. Some of them may have numbed themselves from the nightmare, I guess they have. They probably need support too. Guilt and shame won't help anyone, but open arms will. Hate breeds hate. An open heart enables an open table, and that table can be full of good food and laughter and love. After watching Pig Truth I was really freaked out. I smashed my flat up. I live on my own, so I couldn't share my grief with anyone. I'm struggling with sleep because of the images in my head. I've slept a few hours this last week. I'm so fucking angry. I hope the demand dries up, so that not only will the animals be saved, but so will the people working in that hell.

Alison Dovregubben. Yeah. You know that saying 'It's easier said than done,'? I found the opposite. I found it easier just to do it, than over think it. I've enjoyed trying out recipes rather than getting a microwave meal for a quid. I've enjoyed trying all the different milks (cashew milk is my favourite atm) I've laughed at my attempts at cooking tofu, but I got there in the end. I do occasionally eat vegan ready meals, but I am mostly cooking from fresh ingredients. If anything, my sleep pattern speaks for itself. There isn't a big long hard road ahead -that's just perception. I've got leather shoes. I'm not throwing them away. When I get new ones they will be non leather. Until then I will protect my feet with what I already have. I always looked at other animals with affection. Now I'm acting on it as much as I can x

The victimizing of the farmers is an interesting narrative. This guy and the female farmer on the BBC video (that villianizes Joey Carbstrong) are meek, and soft spoken. Granted, you, Joey and James all emote your passion for the animals and your activism very differently from one another...but only Joey is being labled angry. I find it shady that they don't have aggressive farmers having conversations with activists. Nor do they recommend that they watch your videos, when your all recording your street activism for people to see; what is really happening. They are really trying hard to maintain this 'farmers are victims' narritive. The 'resistance' part of the trilogy of change, is in full force.

@@Ethan-ck6iz You proved the point you sought to reject with #1 - Plus, cows can express consent in the form of discomfort and struggle and general distress. That's a clear and well defined "NO." #2 - More like for the farmer's own good. Calves are commodities to them. #3 Cows produce way too much milk because we have selectively bred them to do so. Historically, they have only ever produced as much as their calve could ever need. #4-7 - Go watch videos about dairy farming and you'll see. #8 - Murder has many definitions, and it's only human ego that confines the definition. Humans create the laws and definitions, but that doesn't justify or make any less horrifying the killing of an animal. Animals have sentience and want to live, and to rob them of their life is murder.
