This is a recipe that I remixed into my own version of a vegan country fried steak. They are super crunchy on the outside and have a chewy & meaty texture that is so satisfying. These steaks are great as a sandwich or cut up on top of a big salad. They are also high in protein. Feel free to play around with the seasonings to suit your taste buds. Ingredients:
2 cups cooked chickpeas or (1) 16 oz can
1/4 cup neutral tasting oil
1/2 cup vegan chicken broth
1/4 cup soy sauce (use coconut aminos for soy-free)
1 cup vital wheat gluten
1 cup plain breadcrumbs (I used panko)
1 Tbs garlic powder
1 Tbs onion powder
1 tsp Cajun seasoning
2 tsp paprika (I used 1 tsp smoked, 1 tsp regular)
1/2 tsp lemon pepper
1/2 tsp sage
black pepper to taste
Oil of choice suitable for frying (I used peanut oil)
