I love Dr Freeman! My husband used to work with him at National Jewish and he turned us onto WFPB eating. 3 1/2 years later we’re still going strong and feeling great! I haven’t checked my cholesterol in a few years, but it initially dropped over 50 points to a healthy range. Thanks for all you do promoting this diet and lifestyle, Dr Freeman.

In March of this year (2021) I was 183 lbs and diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and stage 3b chronic kidney disease (CKD) with an A1C of 7.1%. At the suggestion of my SIL, I started following the Exam Room podcast, follow a whole food vegan lifestyle, and am one of the “Roomies”. I just had my first follow up with my internist today (July 2021), and I lost 20 lbs and have an A1C of 5.8%. What PCRM promotes WORKS.

Great informative snapshot of current research, love to see the full presentation! The degrees of eating “healthier” versus “healthiest” is necessary when converting cattle ranchers to a Whole Foods plant-based diet. For most of us, veganism was a journey from meat- based meals to Ovo-lacto vegetarian to heavily processed meat substitute veganism to (hopefully) WFPB vegan. When Doc Freeman spoke to me as a patient, the emphasis was on Whole Foods vs refined products- including oils. So perhaps some folks should listen to the podcast again, there’s a lot of info in a short space here.

Loved the "datorade" bit there. My favourite fuel for a long run is a couple of dates stuffed with almond butter and sprinkled with a combination of regular iodized salt and potassium salt. So good. Though I once made the mistake of stopping in an offleash area to eat them one time and had a few good boys come out of nowhere to beg for a snack. 😆

Excellent video thank you. I take comfort from the fact that more and more research is showing the benefits of a plant based diet. The evidence is irrefutable however it took decades for everyone to accept that smoking was harmful and for attitudes to change. Whenever I see a television ad promoting junk food I imagine the same ad featuring a cigarette and realise how unacceptable that would be nowadays. The food manufacturers are fighting for their industry just as the tobacco companies did but the science is compelling and the truth wiil out. Sending best wishes from the UK.

Sugar is sugar when it’s in concentrated form like honey, syrup, sugar… honey itself has really no nutrients in it. Honey can help soothe a cough by coating the throat, so there are some medical benefits but from a health standpoint… it’s sugar. Also the commercial farming of honey bees isn’t really good for the environment.
@smudge8882
@smudge8882 3 года назад
A really good wfpb sweetener is dates. Blend them up with some water and you'll get date syrup (which can be used instead of maple syrup or honey). Blend them up in a food processor without liquid and you have a substitute for granulated sugar. With dates, you get the fiber so you won't have a huge increase in blood sugar from eating it.

unbelievable... you are saying that saturated fats are bad for cardiovascular health, but equally distinguished doctors and scientists say exactly the opposite. Fortunately both of you agree on olive oil which is mono-unsaturated fat. You hinted, that polyunsaturated fats (vegetable oil) are not good for you, but you should be much more clearly on one side or the other, because very distinguished scientists claim that polyunsaturated fat causes all sorts of inflammation and may be even (together with refined sugar and processed carbohydrates) the MAIN cause for insulin resistance diabetes and heart disease. Please note, that some 100 years ago, the seed oils did not even exist. Only some 100 years ago the food industry learned how to extract the oil from seeds like cotton-seed, sunflower, corn, canola e.t.c. in an economic manner. The vegetable oil; (seed oil) production is a very complicated chemical process. People did cook their food in Tallow (beef fat) or Lard (pork fat) and cardio-vascular disease did not exist in the US prior.

I think that if a person, even a type 2 diabetic like me is that if you consume extra virgin olive oil like they have in the Mediterranean, I think it’s 100% fine based on the life longevity in Southern Europe. If people have too go way too strict, the healthy Vegan/Vegetarian diet just may not be sustainable. Our bodies do need fats. To say our bodies do not need healthy fats is not true.
@katrinamarie3397
@katrinamarie3397 2 года назад
You can get healthy fats without eating oil. We may be able to tolerate oil in moderation but it’s not necessary. Almost all plants have at least a small amount of fat and higher amounts of healthy fats can be consumed through eating the entire olive along with all its other nutrients, like fiber. Some other sources of healthy fats are avocados, nuts and seeds. A whole food plant based low fat diet has also been shown to be effective at controlling insulin resistance in many people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Where’s your proof?
@rachelmiller3620
@rachelmiller3620 3 года назад
@@mariem.6042 Most of this correlational research is done with a healthy user bias (vegetarians are generally more health conscious than meat eaters; they are rule followers, conforming to governmental guidelines and meat eaters are technically “rebelling” in multiple facets of their life, typically consuming much more processed food and sugar and trans fats. They’re also more likely to smoke, drink, etc.). Any time someone is cutting out the processed foods or other unhealthy habits, you’re going to see health benefits whether they go strictly vegan or full-blown carnivore. scitechdaily.com/ultra-processed-foods-are-breaking-your-heart-increased-risk-of-cardiovascular-disease-death/ peterattiamd.com/191027/ The only way to tease out healthy user bias is a RCT which are rarely done for WFPB diets (often times because it’s deemed “unethical” to put someone on a diet that directly contradicts governing officials whose pockets are lined with donations from Crisco, coke, kellogg’s, and more). Example of healthy user bias studies: care.diabetesjournals.org/content/34/5/1225.abstract www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2671114/ In summary, when you track trends of typical plant-based eaters, you’re going to see greater adherence and weight loss trends either because of this healthy user bias or confounding funding opportunities (grants are given to produce research that supports agriculture and big pharma/food industry interests like corn, wheat, soy, and fruit production and research that tends to contradict plant-based diets is often suppressed or not given funding). It’s important to remember that a WFPB diet is not the only diet that has been associated with positive health outcomes. I can just as easily cite other diets that have shown better results for diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc. that contradict many of the stories that vegans tell (i.e. red meat causes cancer, saturated fat leads to heart disease, etc.) link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00125-019-4956-4 www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/press-releases/dairy-foods-diabetes-risk/ www.wfo-oma.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/SC-WFO-Synopsis-Paper-on-Unprocessed-Red-Meat-Consumption_final.pdf The American Diabetes Association even changed their guidelines in 2019 after concluding that low-carb and very low carb diets (aka Keto) were the only dietary therapies that consistently resulted in beneficial outcomes for diabetes. spectrum.diabetesjournals.org/content/33/2/133 There’s no disagreement that animal foods are more nutrient dense than plant-based foods, so choosing to eat meat is the best option in terms of optimal human health (this study shows a graph of nutrient density of many common foods where top sources include organs, shellfish, fish, ruminant meat, eggs, milk/cheese, etc). www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-701840/v2 www.mdpi.com/2304-8158/10/7/1556 Animal foods are in the correct configuration to match human needs (vitamins are more bioavailable) and don’t require great lengths of processing, preparation, or cooking to get rid of toxins (like plants do, which require soaking, boiling, steaming, baking, chopping, fermenting, etc. to detoxify). While it’s hypothetically possible to get all the nutrients you need via PBD, you can’t do so without supplementation of things like vitamin B12, iron, Vitamin D, Omega-3, etc. Animal products (when produced correctly as in regenerative farming) are better environmentally as well: they’re carbon sequestering. (I’d recommend reading the book, “Defending Beef” , if you’re interested in how the statistics have been manipulated to promote political agenda by claiming that livestock are a significant source of methane, etc.) There’s also a huge problem of Freeman supporting the low fat diet propaganda, as this has been shown false time and time again. Even the study where he says that olive oil out performed trans fats, that study in particular had different conclusions in that we don’t conclude that saturated fats are harmful, only that some other types of fats (like olive oil) can have some health benefits when they replace trans fats from vegetable oils. This goes in line with the doctor mentality that fats cause heart disease, that cholesterol is bad, etc. and they proceed to prescribe things like statins. The vast majority of people taking statins receive no benefit whatsoever; more info on cholesterol, lipid hypothesis, and statins here (a collection of other resources for you): nourishbalancethrive.com/podcasts/nourish-balance-thrive/why-cholesterol-levels-have-no-effect-cardiovascul/ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zul-maTs--c.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BzTjPuikhQE.html

@@rachelmiller3620 I srly dunno what to believe anymore! I’m so confused. Thank you for the time that you’ve invested in answering me. It’s very interesting. I think I’m at the point that for myself I’m gonna be a flexitarian. Meaning that I’ll be plant based most of the time, but will occasionally have maybe an egg or so. It’s a shame we can’t even really trust studies. Have a great evening.

people love the vegan diet at first but that wont last for ever once the nutrition thats stored in your body from years of consuming animals products runs out your be running in to issues with nutritional deficiencies cuasing all kinds of mental health issues then your be faced with doctors mistaking it for other things such as mental disorders the thing is with a vegan diet you get so used to feeling a certain way you forget what it really feels like to feel good the vegan diet is a incomplete diet and doesnt give you all that you need and anyone that say other wise is talkng bs the medical professional doesnt care about your health there only ever promoting agenda for the unseen forces of the darkness everything in this world they say is a invertion of the truth so therefor they want you geting ill not healthy have you ever asked your self why they only promote crap food on billboards not healthy food ? well the reason is they want you to eat slow dealth food and dumbed down and geting ill there gaslighting you and want you to buy in to false realities about your self and the true nature of reality they want you dumb down the brain needs a high ratio of omega 3 fatty acids and essential amino acids in order to function properly you cant get that from plants and fruit alone in high enough amount to function right longterm and flaxseeds dont cut it these doctors dont give a dam about your health and now in 2021 doctors and the bill gates foundation are promoting veganism if you want to end up mentally weak and retarded stay vegan plenty of vegan going back to eating animal products and restoring there health that says it all all these people who says they just went the wrong way about it are talking shit and befor long there be face with the same issues

The only thing vegans can't eat is B12 as farmers inject , biotin ,b12 etc in cows, look at the graphs and see who is healthier and not grossly over weight, or normal size with a heart attack arriving very soon. You can pick what you eat.

@@Abdulrahman-gj5vh They'd be just fine if they didn't need to wash their vegetables, considering that b12 comes from microorganisms. The only reason why modern factory farmed meat has b12 in it is because the cows/chickens/pigs etc. are supplemented with b12, so even meat eaters would be in trouble without supplementation. Besides that, there was b12 recently discovered naturally occurring in duckweed. Here's a study link for that: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30591380/

@@Abdulrahman-gj5vh Why so vile reaction to people who try to minimize cruelty? What’s wrong with you? Do you kill your animals you consume or do you find them already packaged for you? If so, go find a slaughterhouse with glass walls. You get your vitamin b12 supplements from meat that animals pass to you from grazing. I prefer getting mine from the cruelty free method. And, in this day and age, if I need to supplement here and there to lower my BMI, my blood pressure, my cholesterol and hb1ac levels, cure my erectile dysfunction and sleep apnea, so be it! I have done so without much supplementing but even if I had to supplement, it’s a great trade off in one of my many humble opinions.

For our friends from the UK - twitter.com/PerfectMisty/status/1416400222683639811 "Supermarket giant Sainsbury's has issued an urgent recall on some of its most popular vegan products. The retailer is recalling Love Your Veg Butternut Squash and Lentil Lasagne products. The recall happened after Sainsbury's discovered that it actually contains the Sainsbury's Bolognese Melt, which contains milk, pork and beef."
