2017-2019, my husband and I hosted a Christmas evening gathering (about 120 people total over two evenings) with people from his workplace. In 2019 I was determined to have EVERYTHING vegan (my husband is not, just me). Disclaimer: I am not a chef, I just cook meals for me and my family. Among the appetizers, I offered Gardein crabless cakes with a horseradish sauce and Gardein meatballs with a dipping sauce. I also made a cashew brie cheese log with craisins and pistachios. Well. There were people who didn't believe everything was vegan - lol - I had to show them the packaging. I did it on a budget and without spending days cooking. It.was.awesome.
If you cut the breading off the gardein crab cakes and mix with kite hill ricotta, toffutti cream cheese, spices and scallions the you have the PERFECT crab rangoon filling. Just stuff into wonton wrappers and deep fry and you have the BEST crab rangoons!
Great tip! I worked at an Asian restaurant when I went vegan and I was so sad to give up crab rangoons. Haven't had even a vegan version in over a decade, but I will defiantly try this!
Holey carp!!! I have missed them for 3 and a half years at this point and they were my favorite!! Thank you soo much for bringing back a beloved favorite!!!
What a brilliant Idea!! You could also cut off the breading, mix with scallions, Kite Hill chive "cream cheese," Old Bay Seasoning, and vegenaise, then chill a couple of hours. Form into a ball or whatever shape, then cover with with cocktail sauce, and you have vegan crab dip!
I was NEVER a sea food fan, i remember buying the Gardein fish less filets thinking i might like them because they may not be like real fish, but they were too much like real fish that i was like, dang, If you liked fish pre vegan, you'll love these.
All these ladies are so beautiful! Big up to my great sis Joi!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 I love the Gardein brand, they make amazing clean products that don’t taste too heavy or processed
I was nervous about purchasing the good catch because it's kinda pricey. But now I'm definitely grabbing some! Thanks for taste testing all this! As for guardine (I know I botched the spelling) they got me through my first year relearning how to cook. So we're old friends now.
I haven't tried any of it! seafood was the last thing for me to stop consuming but for some reason it's like the only vegan alternatives I've been avoiding trying. I've been eyeing the gardein fishless filets so I'll def be making some tacos with it now ♡
Publix and Harris Teeter have the gardein fishless things but not the other one. I love this channel because I find most of these items in my grocery stores! 🥰
Joi, I grew up with Tuna Helper and Hamburger Helper in Baltimore, too. I think it was a big city thing back in the day. 😆 Also, I really like the Good Catch crab cakes. You should give them a try.
Before I was gluten free I made Baja tacos with the Gardien fishless filets. Sooo good. I was never a tuna fan but as a kid I did love me some Tuna Helper. I’m with you Joi! I was in Memphis eating Tuna Helper. I’m a Gen X latchkey kid. I ate all the instant food. 😂💕💕
Even my non vegan family members like many of the Gardien products, including fish less filets, & the “crab “ version. I have nothing to compare the crabless ones to as I’ve never had a seafood ones ever, but I like the Gardien ones on occasion, but they like them & that’s what matters.
I love me some Sophie's Crab cakes....they are the best. But I mash them flat and crisp them up on both sides. . Oh my gosh soooo good!! Better than the "real" by far.
I have never tried the Gardein Fishless Filets but after watching this video you ladies made me want to try them. I ended up making some EPIC fishless tacos 👌🏽. I want to eat them like every day now.
If you miss the big cocktail shrimps, check out Vegan Zeastar. They're made by the owners of the Vegan Junkfood Bar restaurants here in the Netherlands, and they're super good.
I never liked fish but for some reason I still want to try vegan 'fish' y products? Like baja-style tacos or putting vegan shrimp in gumbo or in vegan sushi. But I'm nervous I won't like them! Eeep.
I never liked fish either, always grossed me out, but I'm curious to try vegan fish substitutes too! Ive had the gardein crabless cakes and fishless filets and they are delish!
Lol I love you guys. “Shame shame “ was my favorite part 😂😂 you all have such great personalities thank you for continuing the vegan view I’m loving it!
I love the Sophie's Kitchen filets, and their Vegan Toona! I like the Gardein fishless filets, but they're too greasy, and I don't feel great after. Sadly no stores in Michigan carry the Sophie's Kitchen "fish" filets anymore. I get the Sophie's Kitchen Vegan Toona at my local jndepend health food store. The Sophie's Kitchen Vegan Toona is really tasty, and the texture is amazing. So close to real tuna. By far the best vegan "tuna" out there. I think Sophie's vegsn fish filets are much better than the Gardein, and far better thst Sophie's other frozen seafood products. Regarding Vegan tartar sauce, Follow Your Heart Vegenaise makes, bar none, the best tartar sauce in the world. It's better than homemade. Unfortunately, just like the Sophie's Kitchen breaded Vegan fish filets, all Michigan stores stopped carrying it. The Gardein Vegan "crabcakes" are a lot better if you add Old Bay seasoning before baking.
What I'd love to see is a whole food plant based show... for vegans who love and care about the animals AND themselves! , I'm all about nutrition and prevention after almost dying and turning my health around! Not saying you can't have a treat when you're transitioning or jonesing for seafood or whatever, but people rely on it. Fried and processed food may be fun when you're young and still healthy, but it does catch up with you, sadly.
@@rebeccaratzloff1589 maybe a bit of both would be interesting & fun. I kinda have a chip & salsa addiction. I know the chips have too much sodium & are not healthy , but hot a** salsa so yum on a golden baked potato. Also, I sometimes make vegan junk food for my non vegan family members, & they love it . It’s a start I guess.
