Vegans on top: Ori Shavit at TEDxHiriya

What is the cost of an egg? Much much more than you think. Journalist, blogger and food critic Ori Shavit explains why Vegans should be on top.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Choosing to be vegan everyday for the past 10 years has made me more compassionate, wise and responsible. Not to mention I never get sick, have great energy and look years younger than I am. It's a great lifestyle choice.

I honestly think veganism is the next stage in evolution. It is healthier, better for the environment, better for our minds. There is no negative part of being vegan as long as you feed yourself properly. You can enjoy food just as much without the harm.

Don't forget the part where the exact same things is done but to grow food for vegetarians but more herbivores are then killed so they don't eat the vegetarians food so they can get there food from the land that animals once ate from. be

+Vegetarians are stupid are you? Highschool biology teaches you that to produce 10kcal of meat you need 100kcal of plants. 90% of that energy is lost so you can have a steak instead. We need to grow so many crops to feed livestock that we destroy rainforests for crop lands and farms destroying biodiversity as we know.

Gilad Haim Substitute milk for plant milk, meat for tofu, beans, lentils and cereals, and switch to dairy free pastries, without egg or milk ingredients. And then you’re vegan! DONT ever go “fully-raw” vegan, that is just bad for you. Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, always have beans or lentils every day, and on a side note, ditch sugar, like in fruit juices, which is awful for you. Check out chronometer- a website where you can log your food and see what vitamins and minerals you’re getting or missing. There are many vegan based cooking channels on youtube. Check out mike the vegan to learn about vegan nutrition. Good luck:)) Its a wonderful life-style and incredibly healing for both yourself, our earth and it’s animals:)

Starve to death eating plants? Individuals have remained 100% vegan from birth, and are thriving in their 90's. Plants have rights? I don't remember the last time someone was fighting for the ethical rights of carrots, but please let me know and I will look into their arguments. If you're so worried about plants, going vegan has the least impact on plant life. Farm animals require large amount of plant food in order to become that piece of flesh on your plate. Refuse to hurt an animal during an attack? You have rights, including protecting yourself. Therefore, if an animal or bacteria is harmful to you, you have the right to protect yourself and others by any means necessary, including killing.

This is one of the best, most positive speeches I've ever heard about the benefits of eating a plant based diet. People shrink at the thought of any form of deprivation and though while you acknowledge the reasons you should give up that mindset, you frame it most convincingly in what you will gain through the change. Thank you!

I dont drink milk from glass, but i still use it in other foods. i used to drink milk every day in every meal. since i became vegetarian i stopped drinking milk too. I do want to be a vegan, but my parents eont allow. they are also vegetarians, eating fish tho. When im 18 and can decide about my own life, i will become a vegan.

Watch the research videos I've linked below with your family? I will weigh in on the science/research to provide another dimension to this! Please read, watch, share the vids I've linked & let's educate ourselves! :) The research only gets clearer over time about how unhealthy meat,/fish dairy, eggs + oil are for us.. Although many people are out of touch with the science/research and confused. From the hormones to industrial toxins that accumulate the higher up we eat on the food chain, the saturated fat/cholesterol and heart disease (biggest killer in western world?) + diabetes, links to cancers, overworking of the kidneys, effect on aging and much more. The vids I've linked below are short, interesting and literally walk through the scientific research studies/papers in an easy to understand way. Plus each page provide links to sources so you can read the research yourself. Survival of the fittest applies to humans too and it's not a good thing that most people are blissfully unaware of the ramifications of their diet/lifestyle. There's a reason we spend sooo much on health + suffer an onslaught of chronic diseases and suffer/die years or decades early.. We damage our bodies 3 times a day when we eat.. Just like each time you smoke.. Keen to hear your thoughts! This is just a fraction of the research! This organisation reads through 10's of 1000's of research studies/ research papers and explains them in their videos.. Hormones: nutritionfacts.org/video/estrogen-in-meat-dairy-and-eggs/ nutritionfacts.org/video/dairy-hormonal-interference/ Industrial toxins: Mmmm I like high doses of nasty chemicals so I eat higher on the food chain where it can accumulate! nutritionfacts.org/video/food-sources-of-perfluorochemicals/ Anyone else love the taste of endocrine (hormone) disruptors in their meat or is it just me? nutritionfacts.org/video/dietary-sources-of-alkylphenol-endocrine-disruptors/ I love me some industrial toxins in my foods from that fish/eggs/dairy/meat.. nutritionfacts.org/video/food-sources-of-pcb-chemical-pollutants/ Yummy, yummy. Dioxins in my tummy. From all that fish/meat.. nutritionfacts.org/video/dioxins-in-the-food-supply/ Heart disease (our biggest killer): nutritionfacts.org/video/blocking-the-first-step-of-heart-disease/ "The best way to prevent a massive heart attack, to prevent atherosclerosis, is to start at step number one-blocking the buildup of cholesterol, which is a direct result of having too much LDL cholesterol in our bloodstream, which is a direct result of eating three things: (1) saturated fat, found mostly in meat, dairy, and eggs; (2) trans fat, found mostly in processed junk and animal products in the American diet; (3) the consumption of cholesterol itself, found in meat, dairy, and especially eggs." nutritionfacts.org/video/heart-attacks-and-cholesterol-purely-a-question-of-diet/ nutritionfacts.org/video/heart-disease-starts-in-childhood/ nutritionfacts.org/video/how-do-we-know-that-cholesterol-causes-heart-disease/ nutritionfacts.org/video/one-in-a-thousand-ending-the-heart-disease-epidemic/ Choline + TMAO and cancers.. nutritionfacts.org/video/carnitine-choline-cancer-and-cholesterol-the-tmao-connection/ nutritionfacts.org/video/eggs-choline-and-cancer/ nutritionfacts.org/video/eggs-and-choline-something-fishy/ Cancer, IGF1: nutritionfacts.org/video/igf-1-as-one-stop-cancer-shop/ nutritionfacts.org/video/protein-intake-and-igf-1-production/ nutritionfacts.org/video/estrogenic-cooked-meat-carcinogens/ Protein, Kidney function nutritionfacts.org/video/which-type-of-protein-is-better-for-our-kidneys/ nutritionfacts.org/video/the-protein-combining-myth/ Myths + misleading studies: nutritionfacts.org/video/debunking-egg-industry-myths/ nutritionfacts.org/video/how-the-egg-board-designs-misleading-studies/ Breast cancer: nutritionfacts.org/video/cholesterol-feeds-breast-cancer-cells/ nutritionfacts.org/video/breast-cancer-survival-butterfat-and-chicken/ (Breast cancer survivors may reduce their chances of survival if they eat too much saturated fat, found primarily in the American diet in cheese, chicken, and junk food.) nutritionfacts.org/video/breast-cancer-survival-and-trans-fat/ (Breast cancer survivors may reduce their chances of survival if they eat too much trans fat, found primarily in the American diet in junk food and animal products.) I love how you you can tell how much of an affect cognitive dissonance has on society based on some of the comments read here today. Here is a vibrant person sharing something newly discovered, and not just any person, but a person who was entrenched in the food industry, and yet people still find a way to ignore the message. The industry she speaks of not only enslaves animals, they also enslave humans. Break free from the tyranny, choose compassion over cruelty!

It is HARD to explain a Feeling. I tried only 2 days of No animal eating as a test. On the 3rd day...when i woke up...i felt so energized...so light on my feet...deflated around the belly...Filled with GREAT energy.... I will never be the same man ie: carnivore ...again.. Please try it.....you will feel the potential of great health...for you....and the planet as well. Going Vegan for shure. Slowly but surely. Thanks.

Going Vegan is the one decision in my life that was unarguably right! I am very much healthier and happier...but even if I wasn't, the decision to go Vegan would still have been RIGHT.

Compassion is definitely lacking everywhere. Injustice is being done to all non-human beings by one specie alone- the human race. Who knows if anything can help this Earth if it's going to survive the destructive force that's being done by people everywhere, everyday.

+Great Wolf not before we fix our violence issues and blindness. We would spread it. What we should need first is to become responsible with our own planet before thinking of expanding to other ones

This was very well done without totally overwhelming people. Subtle straight up and positive for the most part. I do think this reaches people who are curious about living a plant based life! It isn't that complicated to care about the animals, earth, world hunger and our bodies. Is it?

First people have to stop drink soda - biggest addiction
@fishermanfromhell1708
@fishermanfromhell1708 9 лет назад
sugar in general and refined starch (which are sugar - same shit different colour). That's how I got overweight and everytime I have stopped with those shit I have lost weight - beyond 20 - 25 kilo's (40-50 lbs) but then I have made the same mistake all over again - I have been a bloody good boy so now I can reward myself............and here we go again.......THIS time :) -30 kilo (about 60 lbs) are the goal for this year :)
@fishermanfromhell1708
@fishermanfromhell1708 9 лет назад
Nia LaLa Sugar addict = carbs and sugar = same shit different colour no matter what you diet you're on. That's all I bother for now. And it's on the high meat diets I have failed. I have failed when adding carbs back into my diet simply because my brain craved sugar.....Do you even realize how addictive sugar is? And that carbs/starch are the same as sugar? I have had two major physical withdrawels from sugar the past two weeks. Sweet stuff never were my things that's the irony of it all. Sweating, shaking, anger, mood swings and all that. Long live sugar and carbs that are turning the world into junkies! You must be sponsored by the grain industry you vegan types ;) ;) :) (joke) Not gonna continue the discussion in the future. I have said how it is for me and that high carbs diet never are an option for me no matter what package it comes from and if you don't understand that because you feel good on your vegan diet that's not my problem. I am fine if some people feel better than before when they eat high carbs. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but that's fine with me. I don't care. What matters to me is that carbs are my main enemy. I still eat some carbs and I am not a fanatic LCHF - about 20 % of my diets are carbs. But those are low GI carbs. And even this small amount are a bit risky for my. But thanks to no sugar spikes it seems like it's gonna work. And because the fat and protein makes me full a lot more than carbs. Now - discussion is over - not gonna be bothered again. Peace out.
