How to camouflage your vehicle and campsite in the bush. In this video I build on my previous camouflage videos and discuss the principles of vehicle camouflage and concealment when you need to hide a vehicle or your campsite. This can be used when you're in real danger or just stealth camping. Vehicle camouflage is easy to employ as long as you understand the target indicators and how to hide your tracks. Having good camouflage skills puts you at an advantage in anti-tracking, concealment and escape and evade as the target indicators that we use to find someone is what you should be avoiding in camouflage and concealment. In this camouflage and concealment video I discuss different ways to camouflage and hide a vehicle, how to camouflage your gear and considerations around camo netting.

Good video. Having spent a large amount of my life being paid to camouflage large military vehicles in all climates, it eventually becomes a well rehearsed procedure.....still a pain and annoying, but more organised. Hessian Sack material, like the stuff used in old sandbags was what we used to provide a visual cover on all the shiny surfaces of our vehicles. This material was tightly rolled up and secured by bungies or cut up rubber strips along the vehicle length ( more relevant on high ground clearance trucks), above all windows, lights and mirrors....reflections can be seen at a great distance. When you pulled into an area, you would look for natural cover like a ground depression, move off the track etc... but not obvious cover....ie do not park next to the only bush in the area If stopping for a short time, the hessian sheets would immediately be dropped into position to cover any chance of a reflection and to break up the vehicles shape and shadow If stopping for longer, then the full camouflage system would be deployed. This we tended to construct as a " Hide " rather than draping it on the vehicle direct, essentially a big tent that the vehicle sits under ( you can do this with normal nets ) initially we used large branches and stakes and later a bespoke designed system of poles, bungies cords and tent pegs to create a camouflaged structure that the vehicle could be driven into and out of without removing the structure......several reasons 1) The vehicle can be bugged out in an emergency without trying to remove the netting 2) the oversized Hide provided provided an area to live and move under unseen around the vehicle 3) Thermal hides were kept off the vehicle to not transmit heat to the camp netting 4) If doing a quick task, the vehicle could be taken out and immediately return to a prepared hide If you are going to have to use this for real situation, do not do half measures, Just get some military grade paint ( IR Paint ) and paint your vehicle, paint those rear side windows

Great video Clarise. Very well explained. There are many scenarios for why a vehicle is camouflaged and if it is to be left behind for a while before coming back, pending on why and where. It is good to remove operating parts of the vehicle to make it inoperable yet when the part is put back in place it’s good to go. Possibly place hidden tape on doors so if the doors are opened the tape seal is broken. Place a tile or tracker so if the vehicle is moved, you are alerted and know where it’s going. Leave a bottle of whisky that is laced with a sedative. If the group get into the whisky you can possibly walk in and take control of the situation. In the Ukraine, Russian soldiers will set up explosives and traps on vehicles left behind.

Oh boy I'm definitely at risk of sedation here😂🤦 Thanks so much for the input Jack. I'll add it all to an overall camo video at a later stage.

Right on the money here Clarise. Ex military vehicles still have shine from glass windows etc. A friend had his 'Tojo' painted od green in a mat/flat paint. The rims are flat black. His camo net covers the roof with spare tires etc creating undulations and it comes down a little past the windows. As you have shown, he pegs the net out where he needs access to the vehicle and some 'shrubery' in between and on the lights. Thank you for another exceptional video.💜👍 Universal Sovereign Citizen

Pretty cool thanks! My only concern would be that in case of unrest he would get pulled over just for looking like he's got a clue what hes doing because his vehicle is painted those colours. It makes me wonder how we can apply the grey man principal to our vehicles.

Good video thanks. Sometimes when I want to keep away from any young hoons I tuck my hilux off a gravel road on an old overgrown 4wd track. Often people will drive right past it without checking 🇿🇦 🇳🇿

Exactly. Even just a hike for the weekend can call for a vehicle better camouflaged than left out in the open.

Wiping off the rubble with the wipers might scratch your windshield. I have a silver car as well and I will go for a combination of an od green mylar tarp from the DIY store and a military camou net.🤙
@LiveReady
@LiveReady 8 дней назад
Ya know, the tarp will also conceal a heat signature which camo netting doesn't.

Vaseline or similar can be 'painted' exactly where you want it then dirt thrown at it will stick. Making mud is fun but I want water for me first. Light boot polish with a lighter to warm it and make more malleable. Take your veg from an area away from your location and small bits at a time ti avoid that deforestation effect. 😁

Yes clairise, A white vehicle will stand out like a beacon so will silver. You need earthy colours but not shiny or metalic. Green grey or cambo type patters.
@LiveReady
@LiveReady 7 дней назад
This is great if it is generally accepted in urban areas where you live, remember our vehicles move between the city and the bush and the last thing you want is to be stopped on a road because of the colour of your vehicle. Think grey man here... The best would be to know how to camouflage any vehicle irrespective of it's paint.
@kurtsteiner8384

@@LiveReady Yes clairise i agree. Thing being not to stand out, or draw attention to yourself. What works in a city may not wokk, in the country or at sea. We dont have bush or desert in uk, but a lot of sea coast. I drive a very old audi, its green not shiny, but drab it blends in mostly, or i have an oxford pattern cambo net.

what we did in the army is get builders hessian rolls and cut it the length of the vehicle and drape it over...then add cam net. if you can get cam net poles, use them to push the net outwards
@LiveReady
@LiveReady 8 дней назад
Awesome suggestion thanks! Although it is good to know what is possible should you not have any (not even camo nets) materials available to you. The hessian is a cheap option if you have time to prepare.

Hi Clarise, from the USA. I enjoy your channel and thank you for all the work you and your team put into making these videos. It must take a significant amount of time, money and effort. One question on concealing your tire tracks on a dirt track like the one you demonstrated. How would you handle the fact that your track stops in the middle of the road? Doesn’t that give a tracker a general idea of where you left the road?
@gudgengrebe
@gudgengrebe 11 дней назад
I wondered about that too.
@LiveReady
@LiveReady 8 дней назад
Depends on how busy the road is and the weather. Wind and rain and other vehicles driving over your tracks will in time conceal where your track breaks up. Wipe it out into the middle of the road. This calls for a video on concealing vehicle tracks. However, have a look at the video on counter tracking and employ the same principals to vehicle tracks. Will post link below.

Just an observation - if you are in situation where you feel you must camouflage your vehicle, I would suggest you do it where you can be moving within a few minutes. The netting is awesome but would be better if it wasn't laying directly on the vehicle. That way, you could just jump in and drive away. Draping on your vehicle and gear boxes, it's going to snag on anything and everything when you are trying to remove it quickly. Perhaps as a start, you consider changing the color of your vehicle to something more subdue - gun metal gray, etc. During Desert Storm, the British painted many of their Land Rovers a shade of pink. That pink for some reason blended nicely in the desert terrain where they operated.

Hi there! Thanks, all points mentioned in the video and I'm glad you've confirmed them. The pink is interesting. I guess even some meteorological aspects would play a role in what our senses perceive as part of the environment. Thanks for adding your comment!

You need a better belt! As far as I can see, you have a fixed blade, & a lockblade knife on it, and that's it. In the U.S., I carry a 9mm handgun, three 15 round mags, and a lockblade on my belt (not to mention the rest of the stuff in my pockets), with no 'sagging issues'!

Hi there! Yes I mention your point later in the video. I suppose it depends on the circumstances. If you're abandoning the vehicle then cover it by all means. If you do need to leave at a moments notice setting the netting up as you would a tarp would be better. All good points thanks!
@Poppy_love59
@Poppy_love59 9 дней назад
She really doesn't know much about camouflage, especially vehicles. Even as an M.P. we were taught to look for reflections off of shiny objects or glass while shining lights along tree lines! Camo Netting works on tanks or military vehicles with fold down windshields. But definitely won't work for domestic vehicles. Even a thick coat of mud is inadequate to cover the reflective shine from a painted fender or a windshield. Camo Tarp or solid cloth will work much better than netting!

😂😂 that sticks out like a sore thumb.... step one.. get a darker colored vehicle..
@LiveReady
@LiveReady 8 дней назад
If you have the time to prepare that's a great idea. But this is a good scenario for average folk to consider, in case of emergency, you may only have access to a vehicle in a different colour to the environment. My vehicle is actually well camouflaged in the dunes too. So environments change and you can't necessarily keep changing the colour of your vehicle. So the gist was, what do you do if it stands out and what can you make use of. Your point stands though .. a neutral grey/tan would be easier to conceal😉
