the adhesive spray needs to be sprayed on each surface and let set for 10-15 minutes to where it is barely tacky then fold tarp over a long wooden dowel to pull the tarp across the foam pressing the two pieces together as you go, you can use a shop broom to smooth it out. anywhere the two pieces touch that have adhesive on them will immediately stick together so be careful and take your time. I do this to make padded vinyl dash coverings and door panels that look like leather. most all spray adhesives and contact cement have to be almost completely dry to stick to each other and not come apart. if they are not the adhesive will not completely dry cause it can't evaporate the solvents in the glue.

a possibly cheaper and more flexible option would be the cheap camo tarp from harbor freight and 2 of the foil tarps with the foam between them. that saves you the price of 3-4 cans of camo paint @ $9 a can or more versus the $12 or so for the tarp, and its already water proof.

I believe we are thinking along the same lines, but I wanted to suggest rolling the inner blanket onto a long dowel rod, then spraying the foam and rolling out the inner liner over the top while applying pressure to the dowel rod.

Tip for camo painting high vis. Use a can of cheap white or gray primer. Otherwise it takes a shit ton of your good green or tan to cover it effectively.

I’m homeless and the local PD and Sheriffs Dept hunt homeless with thermal drones at night. I use the foiled bubble wrap from Home Depot and tape seams with gorilla tape. Last step it to spray camo the outside. Haven’t been spotted since. Mine I have attached a couple dozen small loops made from the tape to attach foliage and grass to the outside, they also serve as tie outs. Does not hurt to throw handful of local sand and debris, shake off when done. I have 2, one is a poncho like the other cans over my whole tent. Thanks

perhaps using canvas, instead of the plastic tarp, paint your camo on it first, waterproof it, then maybe spray the inside with spray on insulation product? Also polyester quilt batting is much easier to fold than foam rubber. You can make it thicker because its light weight. Maybe try thinner foam with the polyester batting in between, to be more flexible. A polyester bed quilt in the right size may work.

Large golf or beach umbrella. Find a tan one or natural colored one. Stick it in the ground and measure how far you need fabric to drape over onto the ground from the edge of the umbrella to the ground. Use fabric spray from the fabric store with the foam batting also found at the fabric store. Glue down reflective blankets in overlapping panels or one sheet. Cut a cross hatch in the center if the umbrella has spike on the top. Toss camo netting or gillie suit on top or cold mud layer. Wear a face mask to dispurse breath.

What if you start with a GI ponch and glue mylar to the poncho . Then apply the foam layer . 1/2 foam adds unwanted rigidity . So build up several thinner layers , and possibly cross hatch the layer . How about thinsalate (can't spell) , or insulation from a poncho liner ( more flexibility ) . Tape the edges and sew . Glue will add unwanted rigidity , too . It's a good idea that there is demand for . Rudolph, the Atlanta bomber, when on the run hide from FLIR by digging back under rock and bermed dirt . Also he slowed his breathing rate . IF , great big IF , his account can be believed . 👍

Judging by the music in your vids i think our taste is music is very similar, just by the way lol. I seen a video by NightHawkInLight here on youtube that gives me some ideas. He made a waterproof tarp out of a blanket. Its been awhile since i watched it so i forget exactly what he applied to it. Its heavier, but also much sturdier, and less noisy than a tarp. What I think I would do, and it would be tedious and time consuming, is basically make two of what youve made, but I'd cut the foam into hexagon panels with alittle space in between for increased flexibility. The panels would be cut so that the layers of hexagonal paneling overlap eachother at the seams. This way under the seams between each panel, is the surface of the panels of the next layer. This way it can have twice the foam thickness and duel reflective layers while retaining relative flexibility. I would probably only connect the two layers together around the shoulder/hood area as to allow the two layers to be seperate for the most part, but theyd fall down on eachother mostly evenly. That way air can move in between them and maybe help cool them. Especially the outer layer. Ive thought about something like this for my powered armor idea but instead of thermal insulation the panels would be layered graphene/saphire hexagonal plates formed and compressed over sheets of silver wirelessly charged by the field emitted from the plates of the armor itself in order to add further protection to compensate for potential vulnurabilities in the armor. That might make the armored sheets float away from the suit like a chick with a skirt on a windy day though 🤔🤷‍♂️ But that's just a far out idea I have and I digress rather heavily yet again lol.

Use “Bulldog” adhesive paint. It’s used to adhere to plastic and then put your topcoat in the colors that you need to be your outer color. Avoid black in your camo pattern, it becomes very dark and obvious in the shadows.

This was a really good video, I didn't think about the dead air space. I opted for the green poncho with reflective liner followed by a military poncho over the top and then the camo netting over the top of those. Pretty light and flexible but have yet to test it.

This is what I did, get a clear plastic table cover that's about 1/8" thick and 24"x72" for around $35 off amazon. An 8k thermal scope can't see through it from 10 feet away. Not really good for covering your body but good for a screen to hide behind or window in a LP/OP. Very flexible easy to roll up to put in a backpack, not hard plastic. just spray a little camo paint on it to reduce light glare but not enough to where you can't see through it all if you are using it as a window.

Lol nice try or better yet get a helmet mounted thermal for scanning so you can see the other SOBs The added bonus of having thermal yourself is then you will better understand thermal and its limitations. Thermal cannot see through objects, it cant see through leaves, it cant see through dense brush and even if the thermal does see you, chances are you wont look like what they are looking for and thats the key. You do not have to fool the sensor you only have to fool the person looking at the screen into thinking the heat source on their screen is not what theyre looking for. In densely wooded areas I would be more concerned with detection of the opfor rather than trying to hide under a tarp The main consideration is that tarp will have to be left on the ground for a very long time to acclimate to the temperature of the ground around it and even then since it not leaves and earth it will probably still stand out but this is at stupid close distances distances where if you are that close youre screwed anyways I think the effort is good but what is its application in a real world situation? Static position like an OP sure dragging it around out in the woods not ao much.

This comment has better info than the whole video....Why do people have such a hard time understanding how thermal/NV work? Why would anyone waste time with a bunch of spray paint & foam & crap?? It makes no sense. I think there's some sort of minimum IQ for understanding line of sight & how light works. Even most military guys seem to be totally misinformed about the tech they're using. All you have to do is use a basic tarp, or even mesh...And/or natural foliage like you say.

Theres foam (~1/8") groundsheets with mylar on both sides and hemmed in. I typically see them marketed as picnic pads but I use them under an air sleeping pad and/or closed cell foam mat for winter camping. Theyre roughly the size of a "2 person" tent floor and might work well with another layer on top like a poncho or camping tarp instead of relying on spray paint. I dont know if its thick enough for thermal evasion but for ~$15 it might be worth checking, itd be way more plyable and packable than the thick survival mylar tarp. I got mine on ebay but I bet amazon or other dropship site like aliexpress would have them too.

I heard these stories years back of fighters in the middle east that used wool blankets in the mountains to combat thermals used by troops durin parts of the war. Dont know how true it is, but just thought id put it out there, no clue if they were usin them in fighting holes or runnin around with them.

Safety pin a SOL Survie Outdoors Longer Double sized Mylar Sheet to a poncho liner. Put some clear packing tape on the Mylar before you pin it. You can also put a 22 inch or longer zipper in the poncho liner for a head opening and a slit in the mylar reinforced with clear packaging tape, for your head to pass through. If you want to add foam add thin flexible packaging foam and saftey pin through all three layers.

Im interested to see how this works out, the mylar material is probably fine and maybe if the foam is cut into smaller pieces then affixed to ripstop nylon. Maybe do mylar, foam (cut into smaller pieces so they can flex and move but still hold shape), mylar, then to a blackout ripstop or something of the like, honestly that orange cap waterproofing spray in the camping section at walmart is awesome and would waterproof any fabric you used.

The technology out there is amazing with the signature concealment systems available with their treated/proprietary dyes and paints. Unfortunately, none of this is available to non-.gov folks. I tried to replicate what you are attempting with Harbor Freight forest and desert camo pattern tarps with spacecraft multi-layer insulation and Mylar sandwiched between the two tarp patterns. This combo worked amazingly well, defeating my heat signature but as you know, is very bulky. If I could get some of that unobtainium "cloaking" material, I'd make a ghillie suit from it.

the thicker the material the less flexible the cover will be. if it was me i would build a frame to keep the first tarp tight like a quilters frame. then add my parts to it keeping each one tight wrinkle free. glue both side of the maiting surfaces give the glue time to become tacky before joining the two surfaces i think this is a two person if not four person job. i like the poncho version best. the thing i worry about is how do you hide the heat from your breath. when i am hot and breathing i throw a cloud like smoke
