Racism is mistreatment of anyone based on race, full stop. Just with ageism, sexism, etc. Discrimination is discrimination, no matter how you justify it to try and feel good about it.

Part of the issue with removing all slurs is that words are added to the list of what counts as a slur fairly frequently. A few years ago, I was in a multiplayer game, and someone used the word "ninny" in chat, which is used to describe someone being an idiot. Another player claimed it was a slur (I think because it has some letters in common with the n-word). I didn't call it out at the time, since many words started as slurs also became considered to not be slurs over time (paddy wagon is one, referring to a prison van, being a slur against the Irish imigrants to america basically). I looked it up later, and no, ninny isn't a slur. It likely originated as a shortening of innocent, to describe someone easily tricked.
Words are only added to the list of slurs because they replace the root words that holds so much power because no one would let em die. Like the only way for words like that to die is for them to lose their meaning which is the same way on how words evolve overuse and then once the negativity is gone the words are just dropped because no one cares about them anymore. One thing I have learned from one smart twitch streamer. I am paraphrasing: As a streamer you want to form a community you can be yourself around them.
