My music teacher sent me this as a goal for my two year mark. I'll be hitting two years shortly and I can play most of this song and it brings me so much joy. Marc is an incredible guitarist. One of the best of our lifetimes.
wait.. you can play this song after two years of playing guitar?! I've been playing for over a decade and I'm struggling to play it at the real speed :')
Could someone explain to me how these guys got stuck with the whole "scene" label? They fucking shred! They're also one of the only metal bands on Sumerian that hasn't sold out. Some of the best prog metal around.
Truman Westberg Yeah - definitely true. Most of their songs don't have breakdowns and it is largely for that reason that I really like these guys. When they do break down there is something they are actually breaking down FROM. Gojira... has a lot of stuff going on. I don't really like that band but when I hear them it doesn't say scene to me.
This song is a nightmare to cover cleanly. Besides the difficult riffs played at an insane speed, you have to be able to stretch your fingers across half the fret board. I can play this song (well used to be able to anyway, I would have to revisit it) and I remember how excited I was after I learned the first minute. And how bummed I was that it stayed that same difficulty for a further 2 minutes hahaha.
gotta love jacksons. I can see the difference in the playability in this video. I have picked up many guitars that are atleast double or more the price of my jackons dinky. Have yet to find a neck with the same feel.
I dontnlike the flat radius at all at all. Jeff Loomis shred the craziest shit ever on a schecter 7 which is what I use and imo, especially for 7 string guitars, schecter destroys Jackson in every way. But his new signature, the keisel. My buddy bought one in seafoam green instead of pink and ya it was like 2 grand or something but that Marc okubo signature keisel was the nicest most perfect guitar I ever played in 20 years of doing this and I've tried 1000s but that keisel is something else. Worth the money and wait time to have one built for sure.
Hahah he plays it that way on purpose I think... Because there is a 100000x easier way to play it using the low E (B) string. His way sounds a bit brighter tho because he's using the A (F#) string instead of the E (B) for the bass notes, so that's another benefit other than looking cool.
I can't play with my pinky like that I have a hard time playing guitar because my fingers seem fat But I'm inspired cause Kerry king has big fingers and some other guitar players are huge so I can do this Or I can learn how too Man he's an a zing guitarist Tons of respect for him
I'm currently working on it, I tried back in '14 but gave up now I've got the first 1/3 of it about 10 bpm behind the normal speed. Almost there taking it a 1/3 at a time. It's so tough!!!!
I’ve been trying for like a week and have gotten 1/2 of it. Please tell me it’s easier near the end (huge thanks to my guitar teacher who taught me some of this song)
I think with the next slew of playthroughs, the vocals should either be done without or muted greatly. I can't do this visually as I play by ear and if half of what I hear are vocals then it will be more difficult.
Never happened as far as I know. RiP to our prog deathcore godfathers. Would've been bad as fuck. Hate to say it but Metal was in better hands at those times. Ffs Parkway even sold out. 😢
