9:23 the Inquisitor actually did have a last name (Merc name for Qunari Inquisitors) in DA:I, in fact they’re referred to by that name a few times throughout the story like when during the cutscene where the central members of the Inquisition are planning to infiltrate Redcliffe and Cullen refers to the player character by their last/merc name rather than the title “Herald” that they’ve been dubbed as.

@@Dantics It's there when you create a character and people call the inquisitor by their surname on multiple occasions. For example when the seneschal introduces the inquisitor at the Orlais palace ball. And there are whole war table missions involving your lineage. If you a human noble, for example, some of your relative stir trouble because they want to rub off your sudden fame.

Uhhh, the Inquisitor's surname was definitely based on the race ("lineage') in DA:I. Which makes it weird that DAV characters are based on background. Why would a dwarven character have a Navarran surname instead of a dwarven one? Same with an elf having a Rivainian one, a qunari with a Tevinter name?

I’d argue that it still makes perfect sense, like Varric and a dwarven Inquisitor have dwarven last names because it’s confirmed that their families were once underground dwarves (nobles too iirc) but then you have characters like Harding who’s last name isn’t dwarven because her family is from the surface and has no connection to Orzammar. Same logic applies to Rook

You're right about the Inquisitor, but (Mild Intro SPOILER) if you read the backstory for a Mournwatch Rook, they were left in the Necropolis as a baby and adopted by necromancers. So whether you're a qunari or a dwarf, you're Ingellvar via adoption. That's one example. Don't ask me about Aldwir and a non-elven Rook, though. No clue.

9:30 There seems to be a customize option on the right side of the screen. Bioware must've put a kibosh on sharing what choices you are able to make because none of the reviews I've seen thus far have discussed them. Unfortunately based on the little summary given it seems to imply only a few events (and only from DA:I?) will be chosen and they will have "some minor effects" on the story. IMO that's troublesome. But we will have to wait and see. Nonetheless the game looks pretty fun to me.

⁠⁠@@DreadwolfmmaI highly doubt they’re that dense. Everyone knows that this game HAS to succeed in order for them to survive. And forced politics doesn’t sell well, whether left or right. That’s not a secret, even to companies. The only companies who do stuff like that are the ones who feel to comfortable in their position. BioWare is anything but comfortable in their position. Why do you think that they push so much “pro-consumer” stuff suddenly (reduced pricing, independent Steam launch, no microtransactions or planned DLC, etc.), something very uncharacteristic for an EA company. They know that if this game fails, they’re done for.

I’m a little dissatisfied with the way the Male Qunari look. But this is my head cannon rationalization: They’ve already kinda retconned the lore a bit to show us that some Qunari look like the Arishok from DA2 and some Qunari look more human like Sten from DA1. And that some of those more human looking Qunari even shave their horns down and sometimes act as infiltrators to Human society, gathering intel, and converting others to the Qun. I can also tell myself that our player Rook (and possibly any other Qunari we meet) is a half Human half Qunari, anything to allow me to ignore how basic and boring and human like they look. 😬

This is often the go to excuse. It could very well be the case, but if they can have a team that works on hair not clipping through intricate armors, they can have a team that can fit around a bigger booty. Dragons Dogma 2 did it just fine.

Wouldn't bother me tbh, they kind of have to have the MC in the average range for mocap but there's plenty of female humans and other species that are bigger than average irl so it's not like it'd be unrealistic if Taash is a skyscraper, I'll just have to grab my climbing gear :P

I really want to pay homage to my Dragon Age Origins character and go a Human Warrior Grey Warden and then be really diplomatic with my conversation choices. No idea on build yet but that fire one they showcased in the game play reveal was kind of cool and fitting so maybe something along those lines with fire and sword/shield combat. The more we see from this game the more I'm excited for it. and the more petty people look trying to hate on it for the smallest things like pronouns and the character creator.

Just wait for the game to be out and for good reviews about the whole game to be done and posted, that way you can make a more informed decision. Just be super careful about the massive amounts of spoilers that will be floating around once the game releases.

I want to get into Origins just because the story sounds interesting but I really do not enjoy real time with pause combat. I guess since I didn’t grow up with it. My first Dragon Age game was Inquisition and I really enjoyed it. I’m just very cautious about anything BioWare or EA.

I think the limited body is a holdover from vailguard starting as a live service. So not needing to do extra work in making the cosmetics that they were going to charge for fit all body types.

Bloodmages are in the game but your character can't use it. It's a moral thing explained in the story. Reaver being reaper though, no idea beyond the more 'necrotic' approach.

Character sliders might not do much. But seen preset of many different body types + you can go in on all body parts, and use different slider to adjust more (Inquisition) type slider. Maybe that can do for more "uniqe" body sizes 🤷‍♂️

Veil-ranger Ultimate needs to be buffed. It was useless didn't do any damage at all. What is the point with that crap. All other ultimate abilities did massive damage and or control. Also, why does a warrior get an ultimate with raining arrows and not the Veil-Ranger which is literally the "bow/arrow" specialization class. Makes no sense. To me "rain of arrows" imbued with fire or electricity etc would make sense a large AOE with high damage.

Both the character creator and actual gameplay looks good. It’s a bit similar to both Baldur's Gate 3 and Dragon's Dogma 2, but it does have some unique features on it's own in terms of hairstyle, factions, costume design and tattoos. As for the gameplay, the combat is a bit similar to God of War Ragnarok and the exploration is almost like Tales of Arise.

My son came home for a visit and fell out on the floor seeing me playing as a mage. "Body snatcher he whispered" lol btw love watching your vids If I go rogue Antivan Crows all the way! It's really sad to see companies hire these people that don't give a shit about the game they're creating they just want to push their agenda as far as possible. The character creation itself is gonna destroy this game. It's like all they had to do was give true freedom with that, but instead they still had to be dumb and damage their game knowing this is really their last chance. 🤦‍♂

You obviously did not even hear the interviews with the game directors and how John Epler has been involved in every game and also how much they stated they love the series so much. So, they created the game with a love for the series. You can hate the game if you like but do not act like you know whether the developers actually cared about the game they made. Why don't you try and make the Dragon Age game and let us see how that turns out.

I’m honestly so tired of seeing people post about the game being “DEI” or “woke.” By those people’s definitions of those terms, the games have been “woke” since the beginning. I don’t understand why giving a larger group of people something to identify with is a bad thing… I would understand them being critical of the story if it was lacking. I always get a little sad when I see the limitations on female models, unless you choose dwarf there don‘t seem to be options options to make curvy/chunky gals - looks good though, I love the work they put into the hair (looks and physics) it‘s a small thing but nice anyway

I just had an epiphany I think the companions are gonna be like the companions dragon dogma games they will help you while also helping other people in the party and having the commands really solidified that for me playing dogma I don’t think how companions are now are all that bad like everyone making it out to be they’re is so many pros to it and cons

While the character creator has seen massive improvements, it's been massively overhyped. There's way too many sliders that hardly have any noticeable effects on the characters' appearance. What's the point of having boobs and butt sliders when no matter what, every character has a flat ass and an A cup chest? But they damn sure added in sliders for the transformer community, lol.

I'd been wondering why Bioware had been putting Rogue and Fighter so front and center and "hiding" mage. After watching all the game previews I now understand why. Mage is UTTERLY uninteresting, they spend most of their time "flash stepping" away from enemies and using what appears to be a god awful beam attack that drains mana and does pitiful damage. Rogue and Fighter in the previews have better magic and wear armor. Mages have been neutered to uselessness, so I guess I'll play a rogue.

Well, mages aren't known for their physical damage, so that's why their orb & staff attacks aren't much 😂 That's where their magic & specialization classes come in. A video I saw displayed the mage being great in battle. Just as the mage was flash stepping away, the other classes dodges away. I'm glad to see that they made the warrior more interesting in Veilguard, tho. Mage & Rogue are gonna be my choices, as usual. I might e even go for warrior at one point

It's more that mage is a slow start class. They get super powerful later on but start off a bit frail.

I have to admit, I was skeptical and I am still fully expecting Dragon Age Light instead of the dark fantasy I remember, however I am pleasantly surprised by what I see and am a little more hopeful that Bioware has gone back to what made them great originally.

Nothing to do with culture war. I know it's hard to believe because it's everywhere, but it is my opinion. Take a look at DD2, that had much more options. My own partner said she is disappointed she can't make her self in game because of it's body limitations. They champion inclusivity but do limit a big player base. But hey, at least this time she can pick her hairstyle.
