Posterior venous drainage (left side) _1st intercostal vein drain into left brachiocephalic vein _2nd & 3rd intercostal veins unite and form superior intercostal vein which drain also into left brachiocephalic vein _4th to 8th intercostal veins drain into the superior hemiazygous vein (the accessory hemiazygous vein ) _9th to 11th intercostal veins drain into the inferior hemiazygous vein AKA (the main hemiazygous vein)
The Azygous vein : _ begins at the level of L2 vertebra by union the lumbar vein and the right subcostal vein _ascends on the right side and pierces the diaphragm through the aortic hiatus at the level of T12 vertebra _ receives a tributary fromthe hemiazygous vein (the inferior hemiazygous vein ) at the level of T8 vertebra _receives a tributary from the accessory hemiazygous vein (the superior hemiazygous vein) at the level of T7 vertebra _ drain into the superior vena cava at the level of T4 vertebra
