Very fortunate to catch this set at Velocity over the weekend. The whole festival was fantastic. Can't overstate how awesome the community is here in Seattle.
I cannot tell you how thankful I am for videos like these. So useful. Electronic music can be a real pain and huge learning curve to understand and get going.
This is absolutely brilliant. Came for the setup talk through as I have a similar setup with Digitakt, Digitone and Microcosm but then stayed for the performance. 💚
As someone who is looking at putting together some live sets with both the DT and ST, it's really helpful and interesting to see how you do this. All too often, I try to figure out some of these things on my own, the hard way - and that will never change entirely because that's who I am, but seeing how you do this really helps me connect so many dots. Thank you for allowing myself and others to see this, and for putting this together.
Jeremy, we'd love to see a complete song writing walk through on an integrated Elektron box setup. Interested in things like storing sounds for reuse, mixing/levels, use of a DAW to assist during song writing, how to approach changing fundamental elements across multiple patterns when that happens, how you keep track of what actions to take during performance, etc etc etc. The "from scratch" series is fantastic, but is really an exciting way to demo ideating and jamming, and I'm suggesting a deeper dive into writing complete songs is something we'd all enjoy thoroughly! Just a thought. Thanks as always!
Your ability to manipulate the effects and overall dynamics on the fly for this set was really impressive. Loved the breakdown and listen. Thanks for sharing!
I wish I could like this 100 times. I'm loving the beautiful balance of different genres and styles you put together in your own way sounding amazing. Smoothly going through the set like a pro. Legit!!! Thank you.
▲ this is great, jeremy! this is exactly how i intended to write/play music with the duotakt. i have a lot to learn and practice though, that set was smooooooth!
Brilliant Jeremy. I have resisted the charm of the Elektrons and gone Keystep + Force + Deluge + Microcosm for my live setup, the latter 2 purchased directly based on seeing your earlier live performances. Nice touch running the Microcosm into the drums. And great to see you’re creating so much music, that’s what it’s all about. 👍👍
Absolutely loved this. Fantastic work Jeremy!!. Love that gritty drive from the Syntakt, and damn you man you’ve just tipped my GAS over the edge and made me order a Microcosm.. 🤬🤣😀
What a nice vibing set. I enjoy your music a lot! :D Naming the patterns for song parts is a nice tip. Also having a set timer to keep you grounded seems very useful. Thanks for sharing such sweet music!
This set is such a work of art. It's making me reconsider some of my choices in my current live setup. Despite being a long-time Elektron user (Machinedrum early adopter, Octatrack, Model: Samples) I've recently found myself with no Elektron boxes. I'm pulling teeth trying to get a decent live set out of the Force, which is very frustrating and always involved more adjunctive devices, when I **really** need to reduce my amount of gear on stage. Thank you for uploading!
How did I not figure out the single word vocoder sampling trick?! I'm going to have so much fun with my Perform-VE and Deluge and this trick, already big thumbs up for this video, and I still have to hear the set 🤩
You know, they should just call you wave shapers. You're not playing an instrument, you're literally turning the waveform into pleasing sounds in real time. Absolutely the pinnacle.
Sounds like a fun gig. Wish we had a more dedicated venue for live electronica in Nashville but we're working on it. Nice set. Bet that sounded great on a PA.
Thank you very much for sharing this setup and this fantastic live set. Very compelling workflow! Beginning to wonder if I should have gone with the Microcosm rather than trying to learn the Octatrack for FX mixing... I'm finding I'm mainly using the OT just like how you're using the Microcosm. The immediacy and efficiency is wonderful... and of course it sounds really great!
edit: watched your video on how not to buy a synth and realized that it would be nice in the future once I'm better at working the digitakt and other items in my studio. :)
@@cjlewis79 I'm in the same boat. I was thinking "I have the Digitakt, if I bought the Syntakt and Microcosm I could do what he's doing." That's like the guys I used to laugh at on the golf course who bought $2000 sets of clubs and wore black and red golf togs, and thought they were Tiger Woods, looking for their lost tee shots in the weeds.
@@geraldclark5812 I have the microcosm and digitakt so def recommend the micro but yeah I need to taper my GAS and focus on all the cool.stuff I already have and build my level up.
This is excellent! What I love about your approach is that you treat each device like a separate band member. As a drummer that played in funk and rock bands, this makes total sense. Any plans to play the East Coast?
Is using multiple patterns per song new for you? Typically I see you just play around with mute groups like mad. Curious if you think you'd be doing this with elektron boxes more in the future. Freaking AMAZING set. Excited to listen to it again. That drop @ 27:10 is 😽
No. That would be pretty impossible given it takes a week or so. I have shown off making stuff from scratch on the syntakt which would be how I approach the first bit of each part.
Thank you for this! Is there any reason that you are using the syntakt as the brain and output device vs the digitakt? Are there benefits or differences between the two device for this role?
good vid. great music. i was wondering if you have any troubles with pattern changes on multiple elektron boxes. i have the DT, analog4 and rytm hooked up. all on the same autochannel. but they dont switch on time. the DT is master and when switching pattern the other boxes come in a few counts later. i contact Elektron and its a known bug. and they cant find a solution yet. 😒, i thought maybe you have the solution..😜
