Spaghetti Westerns!! The reason why I have a cinema room lol, you picked a winner of a video to keep us happy. Although I've added sci-fi and a couple of other genres to my watch list, this box set is one I've never heard of, so I'm ordering it today; I have to add Klaus Kinski never seemed like the sharpest tool in the box but maybe that was his charm? Thank you for this, another old fogie very happy today.

I remember watching some old Italian Western where one of the "cowboys" made that classic/clichéd Italian "taking-with-his-hands" gesture: Both hands close together, palms up, fingers and thumb pressed together at the tips, fingers and thumb burst open for extra emphasis. I just about fell over laughing.

The set design in the movies in this box set is great, too. Lots of old furniture and lots of guns as wall ornaments.

I bought this Herzog/Kinski DVD boxset years ago. Aguirre, The Wrath of God Woyzeck Cobra Verde Nosferatu German Language Fitzcarraldo My Best Fiend Herzog film about Kinski after his death. Kinski really channels his crazy into these characters. Great movies.

Can't wait to see Massacre Time. I loved Fulci's other western Four of the Apocalypse

Massacre Time is worth it, and George Hilton stealing the film from Nero is a cheeky, bold move.

My all-time favorite Italian movies are those with Mario Girotti and Carlo Pedersoli, aka Terence Hill & Bud Spencer! As to Italian Westerns, it's a tie between "My Name Is Nobody" and "Doc West" oh yeah, and another good one is "Rita of the West" which I think has also been called "Little Rita" as well. Have you watched any of these? Oh, concerning the poster...I have a solution for you. Create a "Pocket Door" and put the poster on the door...which will be a transparent door so that you can see both sides, one on each side of the door!
@terrytalksmovies
@terrytalksmovies 3 года назад
s. They Wayne, the pocket door is too much work for me. I watched the Hill/Spencer movies in cinemas in the 1970s but haven't revisited them since. I might look into it.

@@terrytalksmovies - I really like MY NAME IS NOBODY, which is a Eurowestern that's not only funny, it's also kind of touching. The relationship between Henry Fonda's Hank Beauregard and Terence Hill's "Nobody" grows as the movie progresses, and "The Wild Bunch" is this horde that's never seen except in the distance, riding in a clump to a mocking Ennio Morricone tune that Hank finally helps Nobody...wipe out? Decimate? Take potshots at? Who knows?

This is a great set, really enjoyed all the films. General term these days are Euro Westerns, as they are usually co-financed by other European countries, hence the inclusion of German, French, Spanish etc. actors and crew. Great review Terry. ‘Rip Torn with a bad neck’ 😂😂

I was watching High Plains Drifter the other night and thought to myself "They really got the dubbing right on this, the sound really matches the lips.... Hang on, this was filmed in America!" It just has that look. I bonded with my ex over the "Trinity" comedy westerns of Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer (so now I have mixed feelings).

These sound pretty good! Such a coincidence that I was watching a video about Kinski on the yt channel Good bad Flix only to see more of him here. He's a great actor, but according to that video he's a nutbag on set that had tantrums and hated directors. I guess he rode that line between genius and madness?🤔

Next time you visit this genre, I've got a couple of recommendations for you. First is "The Forgotten Pistolero", whose musical score evocative of Ennio Morricone you will undoubtedly recognize, with a storyline adapted from the Greek myth of Orestes, and a hilarious mispronunciation of "Oaxaca" throughout. Also "The Stranger and the Gunfighter", which combines iconic spaghetti-western star Lee Van Cleef with Chinese martial artist Lo Lieh (of "Five Fingers of Death"); a lot of great comic content in that one, and the trailer (narrated by Ted Cassidy in the days before Don "in a world..." LaFontaine did all the trailers) with background music from Forgotten Pistolero. And at some point you're going to want to check out "The Good, The Bad and The Weird", which adapts the finale of Sergio Leone's famous trilogy to Manchuria. At the time of its release it was the most expensive movie ever made in South Korea.

TGTBATW is a lot of fun. My favourite voice-over guy back in the day was Adolph Caesar, who VOed a lot of the blaxploitation trailers. So cool.

Was that Sammy Davis Jr. scene at the end from "Robin and the Seven Hoods?" It sure looks like it. Strange to say, to my wife, the word Western evokes memories of going to the show on Saturday and seeing Hopalong Cassidy. Those were another version of the western myth using very limited budgets and basic, almost evocative plots. The Italian cowboys, as you said, were anti-heros while the American cowboys were heros, but both followed similar story arcs to a final besting of the villians. If only life were so simple. Good film does embody the aspirations of the audience.

Hi Terry. This Boxset is my pick of 2021 so far. All of them are solid but yeah I’d go Bandidos, God Said to Cain, Massacre Time, Pecos. I love Fulci but found Massacre Time a tad muddled in its plot, I prefer Four of the Apocalypse for Fulci Westerns. Killer Elite - I’ve been meaning to track down that Peckingpah, I hear it’s a lesser Peckingpah film but then how bad is lesser Peckingpah really 🤔😜 👍

Killer Elite is worth tracking down. I enjoyed the boxset much more than I thought I would.

These look pretty awesome. Gotta love revenge stories with ambiguous heroes. 22:53: Yeah, your monotone grass-in-the-wind clip reminds me of the (totally epic) duel scene in _Hara Kiri_ ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rn4FY_k9FyE.html )

Interesting that you would mention Klaus Kinski, "GoodBadFilms" went over the production of his movie "Crawlspace" today. Klaus who was notable for being a jerk on set really went all out to derail this film to the point where the crew were openly asking the director to kill kinski.

Im DEFINITELY down for this set. As far as what to call them...the majority of Italian people I know, who are in my family, or whom I have worked with.....all found no problem with "Spaghetti Westerns" being used for the genre. However, I see how that, with the changing of the times, something so simple as the changing of a genre's name shouldn't be seen as problematic. The movies are what counts (is what I tell my fellow cinephiles when we are together), not labels. And if changing the name of the genre is what will bring more people (from Alll over) in to the audience, I am in support of that.
