When it gets right down to it, if the capitalist democracies want to show that they're better than the Chinese form of communism then they're going to have to begin taking care of their least capable citizens, their poorest citizens, better than China takes care of their citizens in similar personal situations. A famous quote from Mahatma Gandhi springs to mind here: ‘the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members’.

Is Venice beach the only available land parcel left in California for homeless people to camp? It is utter madness for politicians to destroy their #2 tourist attraction, along with the joy that it used to bring to ordinary citizens, and the massive tax revenue it used to provide. It can only be viewed as an attempted suicide!

What actually is a homeless advocate? A soup kitchen or someone fighting for them to be allowed to camp wherever they want? I’ve worked with hundreds of homeless folks in LA and very very very very few will be okay. I don’t know what to tell you… it’s been my experience at least. One thing I know for sure is that the problem isn’t housing.

Tell me what it is. I think it’s unregulated capitalism that chews us up & spits us out. Too little money for a social safety net; starting from kindergarten thru college, health care, mental health services & social security/disability. With Congress being paid by the 1% things will only get worse. Our Democratic experiment has failed. Failed its people.

People come here because it's free to live on a beautiful beach, beautiful weather, great drugs, free food, rich people to rob, and so on. If I was single, with no kids I would be right there on the beach as well.

I grew up in Los Angeles, and Venice was always full of Homeless ! My ex Mother in Law met and fell in Love with a homeless Man in the 80's who came from San Francisco to live on Venice Beach, she lived in Culver CIty and started feeding him Taco's over her fence so her husband wouldn't see, then she left her husband for the Homeless Man, and her life has been hell ever since !! So who couldn't see this coming in the future !! Although it is really bad, I do think it is a political move to land grab all that prime beach property and this is a way of driving the resident's out , after all people moved out, rich investors move in buy up all the property, then they will get rid of the homeless.

this is not a California issue, this is a world wide issue. i live in a town in Canada that has less than 40,000 people and there are at least 60 people here who are homeless. there is going to have to be the WILL for a concerted gov't effort to solve this problem, not the usual "it's their own fault,if the would only get a job, they would not be homeless". i do not know about t stats in the US but i have read that in Canada, 60% are 1 paycheque away from homelessness and that was before the pandemic. now wanna bet it is higher?

There are many, extremely wealthy people in California. Surely this state can afford to build ‘Tiny Home’ types of small, sheltered communities, for only 5000 of their fellow citizens who are in desperate need. A solution like this, would improve the lives of all citizens (not just the homeless ones). Why would anyone, not want to help those most vulnerable and in need, in their society? There, but for the Grace of God, go you, or me. Less Greed = Less Need

All could be accomplished if you open mothballed military bases and rehouse, retrain and a get clean environment. Something like the road crews during the depression. Housed, paid and mental health and physical help! You have it all on the base. It would be a second chance for many that need a lift up to become productive in society again.

No...I'm compelled to correct you: *one huge component of the increase is that cities across the country are offering their homeless people free bus tickets to California. That's just a fact. It should be made a criminal act to do that.* My son recently came back from California, he traveled from San Diego to Northern California, and he said two things were really shocking and unexpected: just how vast an area had been burned by wildfires, znd how many homeless people were literally everywhere in the cities he stopped at.* That's a shame, a great shame upon those responsible for concentrating them in these places. 😎🇺🇸
