🍷🚶‍♀️😲💜Join us today as we show you the magnificent and unique VENICE in Italy and an idea of what there is to see and do there.
🛶💜We start our afternoon in by being dropped off at the coach car park on the outskirts of Venice. As there are no cars allowed in Venice, you need to use a boat. In fact everything happens by boat, this includes the police, ambulances, all deliveries and so much more. The lagoon is very busy with boats of all shapes and sizes because of this.
🚗💜Sant Erasmo is one of the few islands in Venice where there are cars, but these are the residents only as there are no car ferries to or from the island.
💜Venice is the capital of Northern Italy’s Veneto Region. It is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. Some of the islands are privately owned.
🛶💜As you will see as we explore Venice, there is absolutely no room for roads. Instead there is a huge network of canals and bridges. You can see areas where people access their homes directly from the canals.
🛶💜There are at least 400 bridges over the canals of Venice, many of which are very well known, like the Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs.
😲💜 There are also around 150 canals in Venice.
🛶💜The Grand Canal is the largest canal in Venice.
💜🛶💜A gondola is an iconic sight within Venice and riding on one is a must do if you have the mobility to get on and off one. The use of Gondolas on the canals of Venice is strictly controlled and many of the Gondolas have been in the same family for generations. It certainly gives you a perspective of Venice that you wouldn’t otherwise get.
🛶💜🛶🌞I would also highly recommend a boat trip around the many islands that make up Venice, such as Lido, Burano and Murano. Especially a narrated one as is not only very relaxing, it is also very interesting.
🔨🪚💡The engineering behind how the area we know as Venice was achieved is well worth exploring, like the Croatian wooden posts from hundreds of years ago that keep Venice afloat and how Venice is now having to protect itself and its historic buildings from flooding.
