Morkali is our family fav dish. My paati used to make it in veragu aduppu. My grandmother in law makes moorkali with rava instead of rice flour. black iron kadai v r using so that we will get the roast (kaandhal). Even if i give daily my children will eat. It's such a mesmerizing dish. Kudos to u.

This is such a quintessential paati comfort food! The minute I saw moorkali the memories came flooding! Every so often I think about this, that my paati used to make so caringly. She used to even collect the moor carefully for a while to get it sour (never used to go bad!) and say “deema morkali pannirken” she also used to cut into bigger pieces (not refry though) but I wanted to eat when it was in the kali form so she used to give it to me first! none of the fancy things we have now ever come close to this, it never turns out like the one she would make though! nothing does 😢 what’s with all the carbs we have watch now, can’t make it much, but even the thought of it is comforting! thanks for keeping these comfort foods alive!

Bhat sir, you remind me of my grandmother, she normally uses salted chillies in curd, with this recipe.... That will carry a healthy amount of asofodeia and gingely oil... The whole house will be fragrance of the same...

Yes my grand mother used to do this. When we go to the village for the summer holidays grandma used to make it and we used to eat sitting in the kollai thaavaram. Wonderful days will never get those days back

Venkatesh Sir in Moor Kali, we used to make crispy and flaky roast in kadaai itself. We call it as Kaandhal.. it will be super yummy. Thanks for recreating age old classic dish once again.

Venkatesh Sir , this was an awesome presentation. I enjoyed the commentary even more. My mother used to do it like a cake, she would add ginger and green chilies and we used to eat it with vatta kuazmbhu..That was just heavenly! Thanks for showing how to do it patiently. Were you with Hotel Accord in Chennai Dec 2018!! We had arranged for our company dinner party and the food was just marvelous. Your style is more like our home style and I enjoy watching your show..Thank you so much.

This is our all time family favourite summer recipe. Made by my paati for the whole family when we visit her during summer holidays. I still make for my family and it's enjoyed by all. It's also made by grinding soaked rice and fermenting to bring the sourness. The modern version of the more-kali which you demonstrated today is very interesting. Will try that too next time

Probably made by fermenting batter, as making rice flour was not an instant task in a village without electricity.

ஒரு சிறிய திருத்தம். உப்பு மோரிலேயே கலந்து விடுவது நல்லது. தஞ்சாவூர் சிறிய மோர் மிளகாய் தான் இதோடு சரியாக சேரும். மேலும் 'கேக் ' போட்டு அப்படியே 'சர்வ்'. இதனுடன் எக்காலத்திலும் நெய் சேர்க்கக்கூடாது.

Big fan of your cooking sir , our whole family is . We do morkali with mor milagai or alternate with red chilies same way . My amma also without tasting or just looking at the cooking pot will tell us what’s going wrong or how to correct the recipes ..
